I just got my EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and I am getting a clicking noise from the 3rd fan which occurs at all fan speeds. I updated to the latest firmware using EVGA Precision and I don't see any cables or obstructions with the 3rd fan. Any ideas? Instead of RMAing the entire card, see if they can possibly send you a replacement cooler. Then you can swap the coolers and send back the old one with the problematic fan.

I was able to fix it. I used the card for several hours under load and the fan stopped clicking.

there have been posts previously about this very same issue. the 3rd fan stutters and clicks at as it throttles on and off at low speeds/temps and is most likely a firmware bug because every 3080ti user on here seems to be having the same problem. rma would not solve this problem so all we can do is wait for evga to update the firmware or get a different card. what you can do for now if the stuttering/clicking is very annoying is is bypass the automatic control of the fan with something like aferburner and keep the fan always on. i also undervolt and overclock the card so it doesnt get super hot and lound needlessly.

Yeah I have also experienced the clicking third fan issue, and it does seem like it's specifically when the fan keeps starting and stopping. I will say thay I haven't heard it in 2 days (have only been running the card for 4 days).

or is clicking just on normal bios ???
if it's on oc bios , then only 2 fans are running at start up and the 3rd fan
is off and start/stopping at idle causing noise ?

I'm not able to post a direct url yet but if you use the forum search tool and type "3rd fan RPM's fluctuate when fans are set to auto, firmware bug"
you will get another thread with some more meaningful information where the poster contacted evga tech support and seems to confirm it as something evga needs to fix

Hello guys, same here after precision firmware upgrade first i thought its the psu so i swapped back to different one but same clicking amd rly does stop when u stop 3rd fan and then starts after few automatic off/on what a odd issue o_o and rly annoying sound without headphones on.Definitly something u want to hear after spending 1600 euros xD

I have this problem with 2 fans set to 10% at 45c and below. They keep saying 10%, but the RPM is 0 to 300+ back and forth.. Should never hit 0 with my stepping curve.

I dont think it's not a recent problem. You may have just noticed it later as others have since it can depend on how you use your computer. Definitely contact tech support to walk you through that if you want to try rolling back though. imagin bricking your card otherwise.

I would honestly just run the fans at 100%, 100% of the time. It will only mildly reduce their overall life and greatly improve cooling (as well as life expectancy of the card itself). Assuming the fan clicking resolved, it should be fine!

That's not necessary and undesired for the reasons you stated but most annoyingly because of the sound. 100% fan is extremely loud. You just need to keep it above 40%, or try different fan curves depending on how you use your pc. I asked EVGA several times about this and told them it could be a widespread manufacturing defect or something. I RMA'd a couple of 3070 cards because of this and finally gave up because they all have knocking in the 3rd fan at specific fan RPM. I had to set my 3070 Ti at 35% minimum fan speed to bypass the knocking. I tried a couple of different cards by doing an RMA. My 3080 ultra FTW does it as well, and this is my 3rd of these cards. My first 3080 from the step-up would not display any signal to the monitors, the 2nd would cut off signal and never come back on when I tried to reboot my PC. I'm on my 3rd now and it's still knocking, but so far it works.

The only way i have seen to fix this issue with my 3080ti is turning the 3rd fan to a low fan speed for me personally 10% worked using EVGA Precision X1. Was flipping out the whole day trying to fix the noise thank god i found out about this

i just purchased a 3070... and one month later i am running into the same problem... every single time the fans turn on they make a grinding noise. then it stops. all three fans do it. i am rather new to the world of pc gaming so i am slowly learning things as much as i can. i am not sure what to do. i am considering selling the card. will this "grinding" noise damage the card? would setting the fan speed at a steady 10% stave off damaging the card by only having the potential damaging fault activating one time? is this a firmware issue? hardware issue? it is kind of a major bummer that this is happening, if i had known this information BEFORE buying the card, i would have not purchased it at all. if anyone has any advice, or information as to a little more details about this issue (hardware? software?) please let me know thanks

Set a custom fan curve in the EVGA Precision X1 software to 20% and that issue will go away. The only issue is you'll have to open the software again before you start gaming and set the fans to either auto and let them adjust themselves accordingly or set them to 70% where they'll be loud but it'll keep the card's temps under control. I haven't tried setting it with MSI Afterburner so maybe someone will chime in and explain how to do it there.
