Thanks, but no, I'm a Windows user.  I've fixed my fan curve to avoid the noise for the most part though.

After reading through this thread, the fan noise really concerns me. I wonder if it's possibly just an early batch of these GPUs, or if all are affected? I don't want a GPU that sounds like I have a PC full of angry hornets inside of it.

Any of you own the EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti XC GAMING and not have loud fans?

Same issue here!! when fans start to move there is a noise like opening a door.  Id like to find a cure for this.  there is no way im sending the card back, I waited too long for this

Yep, i have exactly the same issue. (waited like a month to get mine and paid a lot lol)
I found this other post with a tech response, saying there is no need to worry, but idk what to do at this point... :

The OP hit the nail on the head. lol It sounds like a springy door stopper when you flick it back. I was trying to describe the issue I'm having in google and this is exactly how it sounds. I'm going to change my fan profile because this is bs. I've waited about 6-8 months for this card. I'd hate to send it back. It sounds more of like a bearing issue. Not sure how the other posts claim it to be a software/firmware issue.

Same issue here. It took me a week to notice that the noise came from the GPU cause I've changed my case and fans too.
I've already changed the Afterburner config to prevent it, but I don't know what to do. Should I return it? Cause it's pretty difficult to find one right now, and this one had a good price too, given the circumstances.
Another option is RMA but given that some people here said the replacement was practically doing the same I'm not sure it's worth it

That's because it's a firmware issue that's affecting every egva 3xxx series card.

Can't imagine owning a gpu and not running the fans all the time.  Just use X1 or "Fan Control", at 25% should be quieter than any psu or case fans.  Or learn how to use the hysteresis function so that when the fans tick on they stay on for a minute.  Or set an absurdly low power limit so the card can be run fanless all the time.

Re: RTX 3060 XC fan noise 2021/10/30 09:36:45 (permalink)
I had the same issue with my 3060 XC, and was able to fix it by setting a manual fan curve that has the fan set at 40% for all temps < 70C, and then ramps up accordingly from there.  Any time the fan runs less than 40%, I would get that same clicking noise, both when the fans start and are then running.  The card was whisper-silent after that.

Now that I've upgraded to a 3060ti FTW3, it's got the same issue as well, though 50% fan speed did the trick.  What I haven't figured out now is another noise that is occurring randomly and last for about 2-3 seconds while gaming.  It doesn't coincide with any changes in fan speed, core clock, GPU usage, etc, and doesn't start occurring until after having any load on the card after a completely random period of time.  It could be 5 minutes after I start a gaming session, or 30, but it will ultimately start and not stop until there's no longer any load on the card.  Once done gaming and it's idling on the desktop, the noise goes away completely.  Between that and the coil whine that was not present at all on my 3060 XC, I'm thinking of RMA'ing it.

Same issue, using X1 to control fan, seems fine now. My first dot on the curve is only 10% (quiet) and then a diagonal line to 100%, its the ramp up that triggers the noise so a gradual "curve" will prevent a sudden increase in fan speed causing the noise.

10% is fan OFF. Use a stepped curve where the step is well away from any normal operating temp zone you experience.  Or use hysteresis.  Or set it so the fans run a low speed at idle.

Just adding my two cents here.

Received my 3060 XC Black last Friday.  Everything seemed fine at first until I noticed this random noise while on desktop.  At first I honestly thought it was HDD noise (yes, I do still have spinning metal for music/video storage).  Finally used a mirror and saw that yup, the noise was coming on whenever the GPU fans kicked on.  Searched online and that let me right here.  Frustrating that it sounds like it just kind of the way it is at the moment and RMA is pointless.

For now I have X1 set to just run the fans at 15% minimum and that is essentially inaudible over PSU/CPU fan anyways.  It would however be nice if EVGA were to make firmware adjustments to the built in fan curve to squash this.  The noise wouldn't be so bad if the card didn't start/stop the fans every 30 seconds or so sometimes.

The fans will kick in around 47c until they down to 35c.

The should have a bios make it so they won't turn on until 55c or so...the smaller heatsink they make the fans start up at a lower temp.
I just keep my fans going like you do because it was annoying as hell, fans will probably last forever anyways I've never had a gpu fan die and you can also get the extended warranty so if something dies they will send you another card.

well, my 2 previous got the 0dB or 0 rpm idle mode. Asus strix 960 and MSI RTX3060.

After 11 month on the waiting list for the 3060ti xc, finally got it, and dman is noisy. Like a lot of people, no matter is fan curve is custom or OEM, when the next fan speed bump is reached, the fan increase, then decrease IMMEDIATELY on a 1°C down.... This is ancient way of control and annoying .

More annoying since I've a open PC, wall mounted open case.

For fun I tried 0 rmp fan on 0% load, but even that, card is ramping to the sky at idle, hit 70°C no fan.

While my Strix or MSI ventus2x, wont get higher than 54°C , 0 rpm, idle...

Same issue here with my new 3070ti, started making the weird noise on low RPM's every 4-5 seconds. No noise when the fan is running at over 20 percent, sent in a tech support ticket. Hoping I can fix this issue myself without having to RMA it.

didn't  wait for EVGA, anyway, to this date people are reporting poor fan management no matter which model of card.
this is not really an ''issue'' since the card will perform no matter what, this is just annoying.

I've unplugged the EVGA fans, strapped 120mm low noise (26dB) and control them with : https://github.com/Rem0o/FanControl.Releases

So im running into the same issue with my that I bought new in February. Has there really been no fix for from EVGA? The sound is maddening and concerning.

I don't think this is a issue, this is something annoying, there's probably a reason why, and seems like evga won't do anything about it

You can try to override the fan curve, and I THINK this software will do it just fine. I said ''I think'' because Ive unplugged my EVGA fans since a while, but the software will DETECT OEM EVGA fan control

went the hard way, low noise 120mm fans + 80mm on the back

Same issue here with 3060ti XC Gaming. (fart noise is best described lol) when I use fan curve anything below 30% the noise is apparent in intervals roughly 30 seconds apart. I set my curve to 40% + and no noises. I may to not mess with RMA and just leave at 40% minimum curve and wait for a firmware but seeing this thread is now a year old there will be no update?

Sucks I waited over 10 months on the notify waiting list to get a card thats slightly defective . Seeing people RMA multiple times and not solving the issue is very concerning.

I solved it!
I installed EVGA Precision, let the software do the firmware update (the fans spun up at 100% speed, don't jumpscare like me), and boom, no more annoying "on and off" fans.
Hope this helps someone else.

When you say firmware you did mean VBios right?

Sorry, I actually have a RTX 3070 XC3 (GA104 LHR). I thought the concept would be the same. I assume VBios and Firmware means the same thing, but not sure. Just give it a try nonetheless. Run the software (EVGA Precision), and it should be able to tell if the firmware isn't up to date (even if you think the VBios is the most recent, might be two different things, again).

Re: RTX 3060 XC fan noise 2022/05/03 17:17:10 (permalink)
Well, update. It isn't really 100% resolved. The first time it ramps up the fans it is solved, because it uses 40+% of the fan speed. After that, it comes down to 30-36% (according to MSI afterburner), and this is where the problem happens again, ... sometimes. Right now, my fans are at 36% and spinning up and down. Somewhat solved, but not 100%.
At least there is a time buffer to stop the fans after a while even if a certain low temperature threshold has been hit. For instance, the issue would be because it spins up the fans at 55 Celcius, spins down at 54 Celcius. From there, infinite cycle. Now, this is less of a symptom.
