Hopefully everybody's maxed their settings, time to put the pedal down!! UPDATED (BoincTasks was showing me wrong results) And as a followup for OC/non OC.. Leaving block freq alone and only adjusting core multipliers did work. Not to a huge extent mind you. So far these are my 2 best results (this is on my i7-4820k): Easy: XMP memory settings, no Hyper-Threading, auto voltage. Finishing between 11½ and 12½ hours. More Advanced: No Hyper-threading, running my CPU @ 4.2 Ghz (set by 42 multiplier per core), block freq at 100Mhz or default, memory running at it's max 2133Mhz. Auto Voltage. Finishing between 11 and 11½ hours everytime. Temperature did go from 65C to 85C (15-25 short of TPF, haven't really wanted to test that one)

I was afraid something not-good had happened with my rig, due to it didn't answer my TeamViewer call. Perhaps it didn't like my minor OC. Well, lotsa smoke, no fire. After the hardware change, it supplied itself with a new TeamViewer ID. Sorted out now, chewing LLR's.

Hey I once had a d-link wireless router decide to catch fire on me. Trying to explain that to the radio shack people was fun. "Sir there is signs that this unit has some water damage", "Well yes when I noticed it was on fire I unplugged it and put it in the sink". Pretty sure that cabinet still has a scorch mark on it. And these LLR's are taking ages on my x5650, almost thinking about seeing if I can get the memory from its ~1500mhs up closer to its rated 2000mhz.

I'm not sure if the memory boost would effect it too much. Hyper-Treading disabled probably would if it isn't already. I think those are just 1 generation too old to run these llr's optimally, like my Yorktown c2q's. I'm running 2 threads on 1 of them anyway. What's you time per unit guesstimate?

I've got a couple of elder 4 cores. They are estimated to finish after say 50hrs. I think... Oh well, they will make perhaps 2 delivery's. Then I have some AMD's, they will also make 2, perhaps 3 delivery's times their 6-8 cores. At PG site, they report the 321LLR's average process time to 25-26hrs. In the other end, there is this crazy 5960X, I dunno if this is the fastest one out there, but so far, with 8cores, it will finish in between 10-11hrs. I wanted to let it burn a little longer to show more accurate timings but stuff wants me somewhere else, so here goes: I guess BOINC will estimate a bit better next batch. I'll keep you updated. BTW, I think we do great so far. By tomorrow, some more rig's will have drop their first's. Exiting indeed

My latest batch running my i7-4820k @ 4.4Ghz with DDR @ 2133Mhz (Set by core multiplier alone, 44 in this case, block freq @100 MHZ) So Overclock to your hearts content, just turn off Hypter-Threading and don't touch the block frequency! 10 ½ hours!! So auto OC is out of the question as that tweaks everything and generally gives you weird ram speeds, which means it tweaked the block freq. Rig is running at 90C.. First time I've seen my CPU temp above my GPU so that'll be my max for this air cooled setup. Which is an Arctic i-11, plus a 120mm in and 2 80's out for ventilation.

Again with these llr's I find that running 3 cores instead of 4 will deliver more packages over 5 days. 4 days would be a push and 3 days would favor running 4 cores. The problem is I'm too stubborn to admit it to myself, and instead try tweaking for the perfect OC. Next time we run llr's in the challenge, somebody please please, set me straight. These are my findings on my SB chips and not telling you all what to do. I think I'll deliver 3 less than I would have if I started with this in mind. I also have 3 threads running on my ancient's for extra frosting which will help make up the 3 lost ones. 3 threads on my rigs. 2600k-1 11 hrs. 2600k-2 11.5 hrs 2500k 12 hrs Add 4 hours to those times for 4 threads. Edit: I just wanted to say that the above times are actual and not what Boinc reports. Also, I redid the math with a calculator this time , and figured that the 3 threads passes the 4 threads near the beginning of the 4th day, so even better than I thought.

As far as the smoke/fire thing goes, way back in the day (~2001) before I custom built my pcs I had a generic power supply die. When it died it sparked which ignited the dust inside and it shot a small fireball out the vent! I forgot to turn off HT so I've got 10 tasks going on my 3930k @ 4.4GHz, they're going to take about 18 hours. It's my gaming rig so not running 24/7.

Yea I read the part about turning off HT when I had a batch of them at about 15%. Right now that batch is about to finish with a total run time of around 30-33-ish hours. Thinking it will be around 27 hours with HT off from the start. I suppose its not too bad but I guess its starting to show its age. Once I'm done with college and get settled with a good job I'll be much more of a threat

Um, pardon me I'm new to all this and am having trouble with the stat pages, but I though I would be on there by now. How long do the points take to show up? I finished my first few units sometime yesterday EDIT: Think I figured it out, must have forgot that 18:00 was in utc or something, of my 4 total units I finished so far they were all downloaded at 4:00 utc, not 18:00 utc or later, and five of my six running units are from befor 18:00 utc as well . So i'll make a appearance on the board in about 30-35 hours hopefully. Giving it all I got for what its worth.

Exiting times. We change standings back and forth between 5th and 6th. Meaning we do great. Our overall standings in this Challenge series is 6th. We'll see if we can keep this spot. Much can and will happen this last hours. Some rig's are working on their last batches now, so stay tuned. I was thinking. Now, in those last hours, when we see Our rig's won't make another batch in time. I thought it might be a good idea to put PG to "No New Tasks", then adjust WCG to Resource share 0. Then open for receiving tasks from WCG. Then WCG will take over as Our cores run out of PG tasks. This would help out Our troopers over at the 10th Birthday Challenge the last day. Giving us a Nice boost just before the finish line. Perhaps giving Rechenkraft.net a run for their Money ?

This is a good idea, but after PG's are done I'm going to reboot and re-enable HT to give WCG full powa!
