I remember when I was doing 3D graphics and to do anything with any sort of good Ray tracing was a 12 hour render process. Its nice to see how far GPU's have come and now Ray tracing can be done in real time.

    Thanks

How long does a render take on a 480? and how do you know when it's done? Seems to be taking forever on my 480SC OC'd lol

Yes, I would have to agree. I talked with my friend who does a lot of rendering in 3DS Max and he has told me how it takes an insane amount of time to render anything detailed. To be honest, I am more of an engineering type, but I would love to learn 3D Modelling. I think it is awesome to be able to create virtual worlds and objects like that. :)

Are you sure that something else isn't causing it to hang or something? If not, that would be disappointing. :(

No, nothing is causing it to hang. It sure is working my GPU though, keeping it at 98-99%

Make sure you are not doing anything in the background, if you lose the focus window it will stop rendering.

The longer you wait, the better the scene, usually the scene can look very good after about 3-4 minutes.

Hmm.. lol. Something is wrong then for sure. I  keep it on the screen. It keeps using 98-99% of my GPU and 12% or so of my CPU. I went and watched TV for about 10-15 mins and it definitely looks like some progress was made, but it doesn't really look as good as in your pictures. Plus, it continues to use the GPU and CPU. (98-99% and 12% respectively)

I tried it with my GTX-295. got it to come up and then it said i didnt have enough ram. Does that mean on video card or in the system I have 6 GB of DDR3. Am new to this and just bought a second GTX-295. would like to know if I am going about this in the wrong way ? Both cards have dual GPUs  I hope i am asking in the right forum.

I haven't run the program myself yet but a friend of mine has. He has 6GB DDR3 mem just as I do and got no errors like that. Your card is 1GB per GPU correct? I would say that's plenty. Obviously though I wouldn't be running too many other programs while running Design Garage or any benchmarking software.

Make sure your drivers are updated, that's all I can offer. If you question your computer RAM, try running some mem tests on it, also watch your RAM usage in task manager to see what it's up to.

Hey guys, if anybody here uses NVIDIA 3D Vision like myself, I made a 3D image in design garage and it looks quite epic.

    To view it in 3D,
    1. download the image here http://i44.tinypic.com/5vcemb.jpg
    2. change the file extension to JPS so it should be filename.jps
    3. open it up in NVIDIA 3D Vision photo viewer.
    4. go to View -> Swap eyes
    5. Make it full screen/3D if it doesn't automatically
    6. Put on your glasses and enjoy!

I whipped it up quickly and it could be better, but it looks pretty cool..  By the way, to make it you have to take two screenshots from design garage, one for the right and one for the left eye. Then put them next to each other using a bitmap photo editor (ex. photoshop), then save it as a JPS file. (JPG with a different file extension)
