I've tested my fourth FTW and the coil whine is louder than before....I don't know what i should do now....Going through a new RMA and hope to get a card without whine? Oh damn...-,- Could it be possible, that my be quiet! PSU is incompatible with the FTW, and my Enermax PSU is to old for it (i buyed it 2008)? That's the only possibility, why all four cards whine, beside bad coils.

I don't know which be quiet! PSU you own, but some of their PSUs are quite bad. If you have the Power Zone 850W CM PSU, yes I would try a different one. "Gamer" PSUs are usually quite bad with cheap components, poor efficiency, and extra money spent on the appearance. Have you taken a look at EVGA's PSUs? The EVGA Supernova G2 750W is an excellent choice. Edit: I am not necessarily saying that changing the PSU will make the card quieter. Maybe you have a noisy card loke many people. I am just saying that I think that there are better PSU choices.

Personally i haven't heared anything bad about be quiet!. I have some of there products and i know a few guys, which are also happy with there be quiet! stuff. My actual PSU is the "580 Watt be quiet! Straight Power E9 CM Modular 80+ Gold" and yes, i know the EVGA Supernova, but i think i go to try the card in a third pc and see what's happen. The PSU in my other pc is an Enermax Liberty 500 Watt. Here is a video of the coil whine in WoW at 60 FPS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtMX2xEMej4&feature=youtu.be

Can't escape the coil whine now a days, all the higher end video cards from either company buzzes like crazy now. Have you ever heard a boxer engine idle? The one that is in the FRS or WRX? It makes a clicking noise, but that is a "normal" sound for that engine. No one has a video proving these cards don't coil whine yet....

You should be fine with your be quiet! PSU. The Power Zone 850W PSU I mentioned is one of the worst be quiet! PSUs, but the one you have should be no problem.

After some more testing I can confirm that my gtx970 ftw has coil whine, coil squeal and coil buzz as long as it's running some sort of gpu application. I tested it on my older Corsair HX620 PSU and on my brand new Corsair AX760i PSU on two completely different systems with the same result. My ears are quite sensitive to high pitch noises so it's kinda annoying, as much as having to RMA an otherwise working card.

@enacku You can't compare a car engine with an electric component ;) Maybe coil whine is normal, but surely not at 60 FPS and not that loud! That is just insane... :/ @ty_ger07 Yeah, but to be sure, i will check the card in another pc. Three different pc's should exlude a potential PSU problem If the card whines too...yeah...i don't know what i should do then. Call EVGA again for a fourth RMA? Or bring it back to my vendor? I don't know. I can't decide my next step. To be honest, i don't want another a GTX 970 from another manufacturer, or an AMD R9 290x, i just want a FTW without coil whine. But doing RMA's till i receive a good card sucks <.<

yes, 970 sc acx 2.0 increases with load and is only audible when mildly to moderately (or more) challenged/loaded never heard anything like this on any of my previous cards. even swapped my "old" 560 Ti back in to confirm that it was the new 970 making the noise.

2x Reference Nvidia GTX 970's. Coil whine like many generations of cards now, are people just noticing this? Gosh dang people, it isn't that loud lol. Do you also play your games with audio muted ? Do you put high restriction cat's on your car, and high restriction mufflers so you don't have to hear it. Come on people, coil whine isn't a new thing. I suspect the more they push GPU's to their boundaries the more "coil whine" we will get. I cannot believe people are actually sending their cards back for this, and that board companies are actually accepting RMA's for this reason. Such a waste of everyone's time and money.(sorry for the rant, hate me all you want, I'll accept it ) P.S. I had an 2 old 8800 GTS 320MB that whined like crazy, Sold one, gave the other to a friend, he still is running that card to this date, so it doesn't really seem to effect life span. That card is approaching the 10 year mark!

Only Coil whine i can hear on my GTX 970 SC ACX2 is when i press quit in Heaven benchmark and fps runs at 2000rpm+ for 1-2 sek while app is stopping. Otherwise no coil whine what so ever in gaming or benchmarking where gpu loads at 99-100%. I also have it overclocked at 1510/7910 and still no coil whine. Soo happy with my GPU :)

got my GTX 970 FTW yesterday and noticed a fairly lod coil whine. it seems to depend on the game and enabling vsync sometimes makes it go away, sometimes it doesn't. the sound itself is not very high pitch, it's more like a hiss. also, there is a certaing RPM range where the fans start to make a noise similar to a helicopter blade (think of the rhythm, not sound intensity). according to GPU-Z, it's in the 24% - 26% range.

I have coil whine on my 980's. However, it seems very pronounced if I'm playing something in a window. If I'm at full screen, it's inaudible.

I finally got my card(s) to do it... but it took running a start screen menu in Fallout 3 @ over 3000FPS, lmao. Basically not an issue for me in any type of practical respect. But damn it was high pitched and loud! I can see how that would suck if it did it during normal operation.

Thought I was safe from the first day, since I had no whine. Coil whine during the heaven demo credit; this didn't happen during the first day. Splinter cell convinction; loud Whine when you're on the paladin and little lower when doing the actual missions and no whine during the loading screen. Also had no whine the first day. Don't know why this happening on the 2nd/3rd day..so ****. I can live with it..but if its occurs in more games and get louder..going for a RMA or something.

I went though 8 GTX 970s and 1 GTX 980 ( 4 Reference GTX 970 from bestbuy, 2 MSI and 2 eVGA)and they all had coil whine. I finally gave up and just keeping it and let it whine. It only whines at high FPS anyway. at 60 and 120, they won't whine. I also noticed higher ASIC quality cards whined less than lower ASIC quality one.

I wouldn't RMA it unless it is not bearable for you. Your next card will whine more or less anyway. I keep trying to get one without any whine but really couldn't find one. Those who claimed no whine probably got noisy PC. I usually test my card on my open bench station with no fan and in a quiet room so I know they will whine more or less.
