I've downloaded passmark and ran the tests but was not aware of anything out of the ordinary. Also ran 3dmark and nothing noted there except my score of 9644 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970(1x) and Intel Core i7-3770K Processor Also ran the Nvidia apollo 11 demo and noted nothing there I can only assume that if my card whines it's only under circumstances far outside of my normal usage and so far has remained elusive even in attempts to make it whine. Fantastic card for me I presume ;)

It's not the Passmark benches, it's literally just the launch page (the image below) with the spinning motherboard and fps counter in the bottom corner (should bounce between 3-6k). I'm trying to get that page, with the image spinning, actively recorded with no coil whine. FFXIV without the frame limiter @60 is another blatant one, but installing a game just for this isn't practical. This is what usually happens. Scenario ABC produces coil whine, but XYZ does not. Someone shows another example of XYZ not producing the whine, so they claim "my card doesn't have coil whine". When ABC is run they end up just saying "oh, it doesn't bother me under normal usage", and that's fine (really). Your card may not whine under your typical usage, which is great, but that's not what we're going for. It's not as if Passmark is some vital application either. Hell, I only use it as a quick and easy way to exhibit blatant coil whine, but when testing these things you're aiming for consistency. I need to just post an example video myself and ask people to replicate it. EDIT - Bingo Morphevz, that's perfect.

The coil whine on my 2 EVGA GTX 970 FTW is now barelly audible. I even thought it was gone, until I open the case to record the sound during Passmark as someone suggested. Here's the result: http://youtu.be/vZnsleIwneI Please note that the video is a bit shaky, and there's some background noise (clicking and breathing from my missus PvPing in LoL), but the main point of the video is clear. You can see how close you need to be now to hear the coil whine. In FIFA 14 menus, Hitman: Absolution intro movie and Unigine Valley credits screen. Simply put, as others claimed in the past, I can confirm that coil whine fades with use. I didn't change any hardware, didn't "burn-in" the card for 36 hours or do any sort of rain dance for it. I simply did some benchmarking and played some games. My hardware for reference: PSU: Corsair 1000HX Mobo: EVGA X58 SLI CPU: i7 920 @ 4GHz RAM: Kingston Hyper X H2O HDDs: 1x Seagate, 1x Western Digital SSDs: 2x OCZ GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW

@Morphevz For how long have you played with your FTW, till the coil whine was nearly faded? I've run WoW and Heavens Benchmark all the time over the weekend, but still not better. I wait two, or maximum three days longer and if the coil whine isn't better, i have to call EVGA >_<

Heya, unfortunately today I had more coil whine again. I could even hear it in FIFA 14 with the case closed, although I had no sound playing. So, it seems like the coil whine fades if you use your PC throughout the day, but then don't turn it off at night. If the PC (and it's components) cool off, it seems we're back at square one. I kept the PC on overnight during the whole weekend, but turned it off before bedtime yesterday. This morning the whine was (is) back... I'm also starting to think that the best course of action really is RMAing both cards within the first 30 days to make sure I get brand new replacements in exchange, and hope that those replacements will be whine free. =/

That sounds not good...I am getting crazy from this coil whine. I can still hear it while the fans are at 30% and with sound in games...The card works now for over 48h without pause and at the moment it feels like the noise is getting louder. At the moment 60 FPS in WoW and crazy loud coil whine <.< Yes, go and make a RMA. You have waited a few days if the coil whine fades permanent, but it doesn't work. Have you tried one of your FTW's in another pc?

Hm, ok, go for a RMA. I call EVGA tomorrow, to find a solution, if the whine remains on my second pc. I hope my fourth card is without this whine ._. I don't get it, why so many GTX 970 (from all the different manufactures) got that heavy coil whine <.<

I've tried my card in my other pc and the coil whine is still there (Enermax Liberty 500W & MSI P35 Platinum). It's not that clearly to hear like on my main pc, because the boxed cpu cooler fan is broken and made crazy loud noises (defect bearings i think; if you put down the rpm, you can't get lower than 1480rpm, it get's louder) and some of the noises are nearly like coil whine (high pitched). So the coil whine and cpu fan noise overlays, but it's hearable and i made a video of it. So i give my FTW time till tomorrow. If the coil whine doesn't fade little bit till then, i go for a third RMA.

I've got coil whine on my GTX 970 FTW. Happens when vsync is off usually. Turning vsync on has reduced it to bearable. Will this go away with time? If not probably will RMA mine. *Sigh*

Im on my 5th PAIR of evga gtx 980 acx 2.0 sc cards. These also have whine. I'm at the point where I give up. 2 PAIRS of Asus strix also had this problem. I've changed motherboards 3 times. I've changed platinum PSUs 3 times. I've tried 2 clean power inverters. I've tried different actual DC power sources. Nothing helps. These 980s are just loud cards. If you have a silent one, consider yourself lucky because I'm 14\14 with coil whine. I've been returning cards and swapping parts since maxwell hit the streets and its been a huge pain in the ass for the 3% performance gain over my sli gtx 780 ti cards..

ALL GTX 970s and GTX 980s are LOUD cards if you run them at 100% fan speed. I don't know why...I remember my old 780 Ti Asus DCU II card and eVGA ACX 780 Ti card are much much quieter at 100% fan speed.

I'd have to say that this thread is long enough that it should draw attention from EVGA... It probably won't though. The amount of users saying that it is an issue should be significant enough for them to respond? Nope, probably not.

If you search the forum, you'll come across confirmation from EVGA reps that they will honor the product's warranty and will accept RMA for products affected by coil whine. Also, the post is long because: - EVGA is a highly popular brand, and therefore has a huge user base - EVGA actually has a community forum and it has more activity than other competitor brands (when they even have a forum) It's of general knowledge that coil whine is not affecting EVGA cards exclusively. You could actually think a bit about it and be glad that EVGA at least has a good reputation regarding their customer service and are taking active steps to satisfy their customers affected by coil whine. I for one have been experiencing some coil whine myself in my 2x 970 FTW and been wondering if I should try their RMA service or not. But for the time being I won't advance with an RMA as the whine's intensity depends on the game and I won't notice it if I'm playing with sound on, either with speakers or headphones.

Yes a bit from a 970 FTW, in the process of RMA'ing it, I'll report back on the new card (P.S. If you return within 30 days, they'll pay shipping both ways, I wasted $30 buying an advanced RMA, when shipping both ways would have been included :/)
