Personally I would just go for a color blend and clearcoat only on the roof. I really doubt they would pay for an entire repaint that would be anywhere near as good as a new factory paint job. Don't care how good of a tape job the painters do it won't be the same as new. They'd have to remove all the trim, door handles, locks, etc. to even come close to factory paint, they'd be looking at many thousands of dollars at a really good body shop.

No, they were never going to repaint the whole car. Just the roof. I wonder if they can just repaint the spot and blend it with the rest of the roof? The defect is only the size of a quarter.

well, you don't just "blend" gelcoat that's like trying to blend a ripple in water. the light will show it off from some angle of view. so i imagine they will atleast do the entire roof... from seam to seam or trim to trim...whatever make a break/cover point.

yrs ago, long before gelcaot
had this friend, bought a new truck, in a clear coated brown metal flake.
wasn't long he started noticing surface scratches in it.
so he bought some rubbing compound and went around the entire truck, hand polishing the lil scratches
that truck wound up looking like it was afflicted with a rash.
lil dull spots, all over the place.
but no scratches.

As it has been explained to me, by professional auto painters
(spot repaint repair) is never as good as painting the whole panel - any variation in color is just too obvious with a small paint repair

Dropped my car off at Nissan today. They gave me a Yellow 370Z loaner. They are going to call me when the body shop decides on what is the best option. Then I can make my decision from there. I almost want to just leave the mark there and just keep the factory paint on the car lol. You can only see it when lightning hits it a certain way and it's only the size of a quarter.

Painters are getting really good at paint matching now days. I had to have some paint work done on my Arctic Silver Porsche Boxster S. I can not tell where they repainted the car. It looks just as good as new. I'm very pleased with the work they did.

Didn't say it was right, but dealerships are in business to make money so they'll fight stuff a lot of the time. I bought a car that was having issues while it was being detailed for me to drive away (engine was idling very high) ended up being issues with the ECU and something with the engine itself. I told them there was no way in hell I was taking that car even if they fixed the problems. After about 2 hours of me going back and forth with the GM they agreed to give me a loaner and find me a like for like model of the new car I wanted and about 3 days later I had it. You'd like a sane dealer would NOT want to sell someone a car that had issues right off the bat, literally the car was in the showroom floor, 9 miles. I had already signed all the paperwork so they couldn't just give me my old car back but i had to fight to not have to take that same car home after it was repaired.

when you get it back, just keep in mind,
the roof paint is fresh
soft, easily scratched ... even a rag
it will still be curing
allowing it to "sun bake", as much as possible, for a week/2, will help in the long run
last thing you want is any kind of a scratch
or anything getting on it, like tree sap
or even bird crap
or a cat laying up on it
etc..

sounds like they maybe buffed the clear coat a bit perhaps. strange.

let me point something out to you.
in this kind of instance, the wording used raises a eye brow.
your dealing with a slick hard thin surface that is highly light reflective
to some degree it is a bit tempermental
it's bit like looking at light shining water, any lil ripple shows
the smallest thing floating on top, shows
almost anything disrupt tit's slick surface, almost anything effects the light reflection
sanding vs buffing vs polishing, actually matters
such word usage CAN BE a hint/alarm
also keep in mind, talking about small spot vs the entire roof panel
sand/buff "x"... got to deal with the possiblility of over lap...roughing the surface beside the actual spot.
and finanly have to make the "finish" all flow together
without "sanding through", without "respraying"
this is why,
"didn't need to do any painting. They said all they did was some sanding?"
sounds some what worrisome

there are reasons why not everyone does it

Got my car back today. They ended up wet sanding then buffing it out. The defect isn't there anymore.
