Thats all that matters.  Wait till you see the pics of the copper version ;)  I have them in my possession, but probably will wait until monday to post them.  I am not at home all weekend.

I started the final prototype VR block again.  Just looking to make sure I got all my steps in line first before I begin cutting this out of copper.  I get 1 shot with the copper, I have more aluminum to waste, then copper.

BTW, here is what the improvements to the machine allowed to be possible:

Once I pretty it up it will.  I didn't cut the copper top yet, but I still have a bit to do on the Delrin.  The fan clears by MAYBE half a millimeter from a video card.  Even if the fan shroud touches, as long as the aperture/blade doesn't touch, it won't be a problem.  Looks really sweet with the countersunk 4-40 black oxide screws.  In fact I think the delrin looks better then the copper simply because it matches the fan.

Hey Nate,
I with you on what you decide. It just looks cool. My Cards are water cooled anyway so I really don't think the fan will come in contact anyway. I just can’t wait the suspense is killing me.

I have been doing a lot of reading on the X79 Classified forums and it sounds that the board has many issues and has fallen short of expectations, I wonder what you think about going with the Asus Rampage board or just waiting for the SR3.
I like my Z68 and I thin the P67 will do just fine as well for a while. so I can save up for two Xeon Processors.

Personally, i like the computing power of dual chips, and overclocking capabilities. I only wish i had some xeons to actually try out my sr2 board.

Setup:

Using a height gauge to determine a bits height above a workpiece.
This is the first piece of copper the rebuild is cutting.

Nate,
Does this mean you are preparing to start on my block? Oh boy!
Just curious Xeon chips are they that much more than a standard chip. The LGA 2011 that I was looking at was going for $599.00 and I am not sure what the SR3 will use.

The next SR-X board will require LGA 2011 CPU's that have dual QPI links in order to support dual CPU's. The Xeon E5 series will be for socket 2011 and rumor has it that the CPU's with dual QPI links will be E5-2000 series.

Glad you like it.  I readjusted the tool plate today.  I moved a few holes here and there.  Just need to bang out a prototype of the VR block, then its a wrap.

Ehh... depends on the card? Its about 3/4" tall. Not sure what card could be used, but i could make some adjustments if u don't care what it looks like, mill a slot or something.

Hey not to worry I have decided I do not want to cover up your hard work at all. I want it to be seeeeen!
I have my set up working just fine on  the Z68 board. I am still curious which board is better. I do not need the extra features the Z68 board has since they really didn't add anything to them.

cant wait to see the videos. i ordered 6 ap-15s today and i hopeing this block will fix my rad/heatsink clearence issuses so i can use all 6 push/pull. as it is now i had to cut down a 120 to about an 80 to clear the upper heat sink. with my XSPC rad in the HAF-X there isnt much room on the bottom or the rad befor it hits the board.

PICTURES!!
Some machining shots:

Whoops!  You can see where the bit that was carving out the O-ring channel sorta flattened the screw side.  Could be worst

More to come very shortly.

Nate,

That looks perfect! What will you recommend for Tim, The Tim Tape that EVGA uses or Diamond, or Artic Silver? I really like how the Chokes are just cleared which I think will help suck heat away from them as well. Marvelous work!

You should be able to get some thicker  thermal tape for the chokes, because there isn't much clearance between them and the block.  That stuff is pretty cheap, so I would get an assortment of them.

Loving it...I actually prefer the silver to the copper but then copper is easy enough to paint and a thin layer of paint or two is never going to kill the thermal properties of that much copper hehe

Sadly upgrade didn't happen... system is:

GTX 570 Classified
8gb Corsair Vengeance RAM 1600
ASUS M4A78LT-M-LE mainboard
