Well, if you are spending most of your time searching for something to strike, isn't it easier to strike it when you bait it to come out of its hole?

This is not to imply by any strech of the imagination that anyone can watch everywhere at the same time and react accordingly.

Question is, who is baiting who out of the hole? Seems to me that we're doing more reaction than proaction.
At what point in our history did we do something proactively?

(note i am sure there is something relevant that qualifies, but nothing comes to mind at this point. Also, i dont view the 2nd trip into Iraq as proactive.)

I think there is too much misinformation and hype going on right now to be totally objective about the situation.

Could they have picked a better day to announce it? May 1st. Same day Hitler was reported dead and he is another person that people think didn't really die. lol. xD

If they would at least release a video of the burial at sea than that would help, But they cant even do that? I understand the whole not releasing information for the safety of a case or someone... At least with Sudam a video of his death was leaked. And we have so far is a fake picture.

Misinformation =  doubt = lies.  Arguing among ourselves doesn't bring something productive.  Argue about the so called facts of this development.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

unlike reports of him getting killed in missile or bomb attacks, this time it was a seal team. If you know anyone who has served with a SpecOps unit, you know they don't lie, fib, or stretch the truth about such things. If a SeAL team member says he caught a fish THIS big, then you know exactly how big the fish really was.

ya, I know what you mean. I'm just pointing out that we are not just talking about a bunch of reporters and politicians who are reading reports given by 1 air force pilot. We are talking about a strike team, flight crew, and Navy crew. That's too many people to get to lie at the same time.

Folks... Please keep this in mind...

Any time you have a person of this importance there will always be room for doubt, disbelief and blind acceptance.

For example... Fill a room with people and I guarantee you there will not be a roomful of folks that agree with how, when where and why the following died...

  • JFK.
  • Elvis
  • Hitler
  • Princes Diana
  • Barney (yes that Barney DOOM FTW)
  • and so on....

Maybe...but in my mind, it doesn't matter how many people receive and believe an idea at the same time, all that matters is the truth. Lets just say that to me, I give it a 50/50 chance at being real.

Reasons it may be true:
1. We have been looking for him for a long time
2. Many documented accounts of the incident
3. Bin Laden wanted to die a martyr for a greater plan, and his day of death co-insides with that

Reasons it may be faked:
1. Lack of what I would call "conclusive proof"
2. Very, VERY convenient
3. They dumped him in the water? REALLY? No DNA analysis or autopsy? For a man known to have "stunt doubles"?

Look, for a skeptic like me, I need to see conclusive proof from MANY sources, and the proof has to line up with all the facts and it has to make sense. If there is a lack of proof, facts, or sense one way or the other...I will be skeptical...it doesn't mean I know the truth, it just means that the media and government lie all the time, and reality can be distorted the more times it is repeated, especially when there are many puppet masters pulling the strings.

Either way, it is best to sit back, snip one of the earphones cords and peak through the blindfold so you can hear and see more than just one side of the story.

As far as Osama being buried at sea, the wikipedia page (although not the most reliable source) has an interesting reason as to why.

Any country this guy comes from doesn't exactly consider him a "citizen" much more these days. He only was in Afghanistan because the Taliban were in charge. We couldn't bury him in his native Saudi Arabia because they basically disowned him. Pakistan or Syria won't take him because it would be political suicide. Lastly, the US won't bury him here because that would be spitting in the face of the 9/11 families (and just about every American in the process). Put him in international waters and he still goes to heaven and still keeps his religious dignity. Water burials aren't preferred by Islam but they aren't forbidden as far as I understand. Another reason to bury him at sea is so there isn't a rally site for future terrorists.

However, I still think this is all kind of convenient. Not trying to be political because really don't care, but campaigns are about to kick off for 2012 election and this is a real solid kick-in-the-face for Republicans if the incumbent party plays their cards right.

The next few months will certainly be intriguing and historical to say the least.

How the hell is this thread not LOCKED?!?!  Clearly political statements all throughout about how Bush sucks and Obama is god and he did in 2 years...blah,blah,blah.  The truth is that the intelligence gathered and the courier was tracked starting in 2007!!!! And that led to this event.

Please lock this thread and stop the freaking political lies and failure to abide by forum rules. Do they only apply when certain people make political statements?

It WAS locked. Obviously it is of enough importance that the powers that be decided to unlocked it (something unheard of). I highly suggest sticking to non TOS breaking replies instead of complaining.

^^^ This is why I am skeptical. There are just as many reasons why this may be true as there are motives and reasons for it to be false. Convenience plays a huge factor in my skepticism.

I thought we were keeping this thread non political. Look at it for what it is, in a national address, Obama rambled on about how he was responsible for having the CIA make Osama their top priority, how they decided to make the push to snag the guy may 1st. even though they knew about the location for months. This is all right before the campaign season for the 2012 elections. You think a bunch of paranoid people aren't going to find that convenient(regardless of party affiliation)?

I don't care what party you support, this whole thing is all really coincidental, and it is subject to debate...but can we keep politics out of this thread and keep it about reasons why it may or may not be true and information surrounding the news report of this event so this thread and all the others do not get perma locked?
