Re: *OFFICIAL* EVGA RTX 3090 Kingpin 2022/02/01 14:26:56 (permalink)
I think NVIDIA is trying to reset the floor market price for the next gen GPUs.  If you look at what they have been doing along and with the secondary market pricing scaling upwards, the prices have been going through the roof.  With the initial launch of the 30 series, the prices were about half to a third of what the current TI's models are going for.  A couple of years ago most people would more than likely say they would not buy a GPU for over 2k, but now it's the norm for a large portion of the gaming segment.  3080TI's going for over 2k are now setting the bench marks for the 4000 series of GPUs from most manufacturers.  They are going to justify it with the huge increase in performance and since most gamers/users have seen the prices go up they will be less shocked to see the 4000 series setting new standards as far as costs.

Even with the more recent releases of the TIs which from a cost standpoint makes little sense to the end users, but the more important thing is that the shortages of materials and the high demand are forcing the market to shift upward to these higher priced GPUs because of it.

I kinda cringe on the thought of the 3090TI Kingpin is going to go for.  I do think it will be around 2.3k for the hybrid and closer to 2.5k if they come out with a HC.  With the short life of the refresh due to the impending release of the 4000 series later this year, I'm not sure what kind of support a TI Kingpin is going to get from the water block companies unless the AIBs use the same PCB which would allow 3090 TI and 3090 TI Kingpins to share the same block.

The good thing is the while the 30 series may not be a perfect series, it does provide most gamers enough power to use in games for the next few years.  It will take the GPU segment to crash to bring back lower prices but I don't see that happening anytime in the near future.

I'm going to skip the 3090TI and take a look at the 4000 series when they come out.  I am hoping my wallet and bank account will have enough time till then to recover from all the 30 series stuff I bought.

The big thing that no one knows yet too is what the effective service life of the 3090 kp will be. Announcing a 3090ti kp is great but if it’s 6 months from now til the queue and another 6 months until fulfillment with a 40xx series due this year, what are we really talking about? The card won’t be DOA but it will be deprecated before it even ships for $2500-3000 plus whatever the block is, if there is a block at all. Not a good planned product lifecycle.

If this is correct, the 3090ti prices are stupid expensive.

don't read into this.

first of all, zotac and MSI are rip of artists. MSI is the company that tried to scalp their own cards on ebay at 2x the price. and even when they aren't flipping their own cards on ebay, their cards are all disgustingly expensive even through retail channels. MSI 10GB RTX 3080 gaming is $1200 and suprim is $1300 in the US, and that's before sales tax. MSI cards cost hundreds more than anyone aside from zotac, which is somehow worse than MSI.

and second, these prices are from european countries with stupid high import and sales taxes (VAT). german VAT is 19% and is already in the price of the card, where as in the US, canada and many other countries, they advertised price does not include the sales tax.

I was going to go out and buy a msi 3070 ti today because I almost couldn't hold out for a 3080ti.

I would much rather a evga card than msi..

With a 3090ti coming I may try to get on that queue when that opens.

This might not be a KP GPU but it still looks sweet.

It will be interesting to see when the 3090 Ti sees the light of day, much less when the KPE comes out.  With the rumors that Nvidia asked AIB partners to pause production, makes me wonder when they'll actually come out, and if the issues are bad enough, if they'll just scrap the 3090 Ti with 40-series coming later this year.

Reading some preliminary "rumours" of 40xx series (who knows for sure right but 2x as fast as current line up, 5nm and up to 18K cuda cores).... if your already sitting on a 30xx series of any kind wouldnt make any sense at all to spend that kind of money on a 3090Ti let alone a kp....not at this point....but there are always those looking for another 500 pts in PR ;)

The small spread already between 3080Ti and 3090 kp should be enough for "common sense" to kick in.....for most lol
Then again do we really have to have 12900k n DDR5 .....enthusiasts decisions

I apologize if this has already been answered before - Is it normal to only get 2 fans showing up in X1 Precision for the kingpin hybrid (i.e. are the 3 fans on the radiator considered 1)?

One controls the fan on the card, the other controls all 3 rad fans simultaneously. There is no independent fan control for the rad unless you want to rewire and use 3rd party controller/mobo header.

i am seeing more advanced listing postings on news feeds for the 3090ti, Asus and Msi,  I am thinking it is real thing when you start seeing that.  I think the 4000 series might get delayed.  Intel releasing their own discreet cards and who knows if they go neck and neck with a 3080 and they flood the market with their first generation,  Nvidia and AMD might have something to worry about.   i have been waiting for my notify for my 3090 KPE HC  for 8 months now.   Intel wants to fill this void and get marketshare.

The rumors always say the next gen is twice as fast, BS of course.  3080 was about 50% faster than a 2080 and 3090 about 35% faster than 2080 Ti (typical OC).   There are eleven 3070 Ti Timespy GPU scores worldwide better than my personal best 2080 Ti Hybrid with no remarkable effort and zero 3070's...we all know about the 2080 Ti vs. 3070 BS hype Nvidia itself put out at launch.

This gen the 3080 picked up a decent gain on the 2080 Ti, will the 4080 resounding beat the 3090, and cost less than $1500?  When will you be able to get one?  Will it have value to miners?

Sorry man you're dreaming.  The 3090 KP already lists for $2119 and goes on ebay/stockx for $2700, down from ~$4K over the holiday.  The 3080 12GB price 're-calibration' was a ~50% hike over the 3080 10GB.  ASUS 3090's on NE shuffle today were about $2219 for TUF and $2299 for Strix.

IMHO the 3090 Ti reference/FE will be $1999 and the KP will be around $3000.

Dude you can't just quote an article who cites MLID as a source, the guy is just making up Reddit tier BS in his mom's basement.

Fact is, the A40 and A6000 cards use the same full GA102 chip which has been in existence since at least mid-2020, released in Oct 2020:

https://www.techpowerup.c...pecs/nvidia-ga102.g930

https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/en-zz/Solutions/Data-Center/a40/NVIDIA%20A40%20Product%20Brief.pdf

https://www.nvidia.com/co...54980-r9-web%20(1).pdf

They cost ~$6000.  High boost clock.   If corporate customers want them, Nvidia sure isn't going dump those top bin GA102's in ~$2000 gaming cards.

There is no particular difference in power demands or technical hurdles in making the card work.  They have had a year and a half to bin at least a small pile of top tier GA102's, unless of course they consumed them all.  There is no 1860MHZ boost clock, the reference boost clock will be in the 1665-1725mhz range.  I also HIGHLY doubt the reference card will have more than 350w 100% PL.  There is no last minute technical gotcha, they either make the chips available or they don't.

While we're at it, where are the 16Gb (2GB) GDDR6X?  Micron has a datasheet listing the faster 21 Gb/s variant but only in 8Gb size, it's been rumored to be on an Ampere card way back in mid 2020:

https://www.tweaktown.com/news/74502/micron-confirms-geforce-rtx-3090-has-12gb-of-gddr6x-memory-at-21gbps/index.html

Huh?  Where are these mythical 2GB 21Gb/s chips?  I would say the vram could be causing a delay, but who knows if it even exists?   Maybe they are having trouble with it running at 21Gb/s, in either a single or double sided layout?  Hummm?

What ever is Holding up the TI , they are not talking about it or leaking it, 100 more watts on the FE cooler must be a lot to ask of it. if the 40 series is on track for this year , I will definitely wait , even if you can flip your current KP , you might be spending 600$ or more for the extra 500 points in PR

People need to stop repeating the 'muh 450w' meme. It is purely a bad rumor, started by a guy on Twitter months ago, then repeated in a vacuum.  Not confirmed by anything.  There is a dodgy screenshot of a 3090 Ti SuprimX spec sheet with 480w listed.  Guess what?  There are 500w 3090 FTW3 bios.  The 3090 Ti FE and Reference will be 350w 100% PL with a max of around 375w, just like the 3080 Ti and 3090.  Nvidia themselves will not significantly exceed the ~375w PCIe limit, they do 400w max FE, but less on reference.  The 3080 Ti and 3090 FTW3 barely hold themselves together coming out of the box at 400w+, Nvidia knows this.

Whatever, a 3080 ftw3 is listed as 320w on the spec sheet and actually pulled 380w , we will see what it does when we see it but 450 is certainly not out of the realm of impossibility as the KPE pulls 420 , stock and they going to try to beat it to keep up the 125 $ per 1% performance increase that we have come accustomed to.

AIB custom cards can pull whatever.  If you're citing PL for a new launch, you should cite the baseline 100% PL of the reference card.

Every three plug 3080, 3080 Ti and 3090 can be run at 450w, somewhat easily.

3080 ref/FE is 320w 100% PL.  The 3080 FTW3 is 380w 100% PL.

Everyone needs to calm down and remember that 250w 100% PL was typical for the flagship reference card for the last 10 years.

I'd never noticed this before but the 3090 actually uses the 21Gb/s GDDR6X chips and underclocks them.  Huh.

First batch will be available Thursday - Kingpin

I believe Vince was talking about the Z690 Dark KingPin mobo, not the 3090 Ti / 3090 KingPin.
