Batches 03244181xxx. A few worth to note things. - Boxex are more black (later I will upload photos in high resolution) - GDDR6 Samusng instead of GDDR6 Micron - New bios - The cards work more stable - They reach lower temperatures

Received my EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra today (did not buy it on evga.com) and my card is still using GDDR6 from Micron.

I cannot say, but there is possibility that the issue was a defective run of microns own chips.

I just looked at the bios update thread in this forum. It's all Micron memory.

Hmm thats a bit scary info, seems the micron is the "cheaper/less doable" version, and afraid of the long vitality for the cards with these vs samsungs. Gotta be a reason to why they change, scary with the samsung parts seems more stable / less hot. Its alot of money if its dies early / after warranty, cause we are early adopters. Could also be the reason why its so hard to get cards, the orders get mowed time after time, my order went from, 13/11 - 18/12 - 15/1 2019....perhaps they are aware and stopped production with micron chips. I fear they will jyst change the never cards to samsung ram, and rma those micron chips that dies early, even though they know the failrate is high. Sucks to pay a premium with less quality components, and perhaps components that "burns out" faster. A thought i had regarding the dying cards, seems to come true. Will be interesting the next couple of weeks, how it will unfold.

Just remember, Micron had GDDR5 issues on the 1070 which required bios tuning, so they aren't new to being of lesser spec compared to samsung stuff.

This reminds me of the Elpidia ram that was used in the 780's until they switched over to samsung as well. Hopefully this isn't very significant this time around...

NVIDIA hasn't changed the VRAM manufacturer. They had an exklusive contract with Micron where Micron delivers the memory chips for the release cards. With additional AIB cards it was clear that we'll see cards with Samsung chips as well. We might also see some cards with SK Hynix Chips.

Interesting. I don't have any complaints about the speed of the memory in my FTW3. I have taken it up to +1100 and have never had it crash on me. It will be interesting to see if the Samsung memory really runs cooler.

Well.. I do believe NVidia has utilized Samsung, micron, and elpidia in the past... so is there something wrong with them doing this again?

No, but people will want the best for their $1200 dollar purchase. Better stability & lower temps sound good.

We can't be sure of know at all of that's the case. What we do know is that Samsung can produce a much faster GDDR6, at 18 instead of 14 gbps.

It would seem early adopters never learn. Folks paid $1200 for exactly what was advertised prior to launch. If they truly want what’s best, they’d all know to wait. I guarantee there will be people that return their cards because they didn’t get the Samsung version. I remember many members that complained the 780ti was faster than the Titan, and said they wouldn’t come back. Then the 980ti after the Titan X Maxwell and they wouldn’t come back. The the 1080ti after the Titan XP and the immediate and silent launch of the Titan Xp launch around the same time as the 1080ti released... yep, they said they wouldn’t come back. “People want the best for the money...” Then they better learn to wait... if they keep falling for the same trick, it isn’t NVidia fault and they deserve only what they pay for, which is what was advertised prior to launch.

Packaging is a terrible indicator of hardware changes. You can have color differences between carton batches even from the same manufacturer and plant. Go by what's on the card.
