Thanks, I am glad and honestly surprised to hear that. I checked out the NV forums (yeah I know it's a jungle there) and a few other quick searches. Everything I read was negative. Something about black screens blah blah.

I was going to hold off, I am on .65 which are fine for me, but I may give these a try now. On the other hand if it any broke.....etc....?

Please keep us updated, Chris. Cheers.

Surprisingly, I have found nothing broke so far. The driver is still running solid. I'll try out some more games today.

EDIT: Fired up Prey today and it ran flawlessly. Battlefield 1 ran really well. I can't stomach too much of that game anymore though, too many dishonest people play it.

Re: Nvidia driver 391.01 is out 2018/03/01 02:05:20 (permalink)
Just going to say this first off:

I took a shortcut and just updated my drivers over the top without using DDU or uninstalling the drivers. I normally do a clean install which I haven’t done yet, I’ll do it later today.

I experienced getting the blank screen problem in the FFXV demo. Basically every 4 seconds the screen goes blank and comes back but only happens in full screen mode. In windowed mode it’s fine.

Rainbow Six Siege - after a game has ended, when going back to the summary screen, the screen will go black for like 3 seconds and then comes back then goes blank again and comes back. Prolly does this around 4 times. This happens once in every 5-7 games. Not every time.

Never happened with older drivers but I suspect I just need to stop being lazy and DDU the old drivers and redo the install. =)

Using a 1080ti FTW3.

Rise of the tomb raider nvidia errors continues even with older 388.71 drivers.. says out of resources and I need to turn some setting down to run it. Hehe

Runing it at 1440 ultra wide before with a single 1080ti and now since last night 1080ti sli after stealing my son's 1080ti hehe.

Same errors.. must be some issue with the game I'll need to look up.

Yeah, I should have said in my previous posts, but I ran DDU in safe mode and then installed these drivers.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try them on my second machine (mainly a folding runner) which has an EVGA ftw 1080.

If it goes well I'll update my main rig (gaming, everything) which has EVGA FTW3 ICS 1080ti.

I probably won't bother on the main rig unless there are above statistically relevant increases. Before someone mentions this, I know, just because it runs great or terrible on the 1080 doesn't exactly translate to 1080ti, but it will give me an idea, and should proof stability or lack thereof.

I'll post back in a few days.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but that could mean anything. Do you mean lower bench scores (not so terrible if small I guess?). Or have you had problems in games, crashes etc. A little elaboration would be great.

I also read somewhere about a weird black screen this driver has cause some people. Do you mean that? If you say yes to any of the above I will not upgrade on my main rig. .65 (2 drivers ago) is fine for me.

Yoda_In_Area51Never happened with older drivers but I suspect I just need to stop being lazy and DDU the old drivers and redo the install. =)

Is it really necessary to use DDU every time the driver is updated?

Personally, I don't consider it to be.  I tend to use it if something driver related seems to be causing an issue, which is rare.  Or if I'm changing GPU's.  I do however always use the "clean" install method when installing a new driver.

I would always recommend it. Saves headaches in the long run. The number of times cleaning out the old drivers with DDU has sorted issue(s) out. Deffo worth it.

However, sometimes you can get away with just updating over the top. Hit and miss.

A lot easier and faster using ddu. Boot into safe mode in win 10.

Hold shift key and press the power button and not restart.

Options will come up. Select troubleshooting, advance start up (I think). You'll see a menu that shows options you can make on the next start up. Hit restart. On the next boot you'll see those options and you press 4 for safe mode.

Once in safe mode launch ddu and select clean and restart for just updating drivers or clean and power off for swaping cards

Much easier then doing add remove for each nvidia item.

Good!  Pretty much identical!  Well within the margin of error.

GPU Boost 3.0 assures that the core clock (and thus performance) can be different with only minor environmental temperature changes.  No big deal.  Want more performance?  Crank the fans to 100% and increase the power limit to the max.

Once in safe mode launch ddu and select clean and restart for just updating drivers or clean and power off for swaping cards

Much easier then doing add remove for each nvidia item.

You can do this in DDU. It has an option to reboot into safe mode and disable driver installing. In the launch option, select "safe mode".

That hasn't worked since the windows fall creators release

Works perfectly fine for me an pretty much everyone else as far as I know. Are you using an old version?

Good here, 1080ti W10 latest updates. 7700k 16gb ram.

NO issues in any game, better frame consistancy and little to no stutter / jitter like there used to be on W10 with G sync.

Anyone has Gsync 165 hz? It seems to give me 10 fps less than before. Every time I roll back to 388.xx I gain those 10 fps back in rainbow 6 siege for example.

That didn't help either...I don't know a broke 1060 lol
Should be fine in DX11..but everything else looks awful....other than that rad man...on like the stock voltage at 5ghz pretty awesome.

Anyone had any issues with Overwatch with this new driver? Trying to establish if it was the driver or some other bit of software that caused the game crash.
