Well I fitted my new Gigabyte Z390 Master motherboard yesterday , I couldn’t get the card to fail once ! So it would appear it’s a ASUS bios issue or EVGA bios issue with ASUS .

Expensive route I’ve taken but for the peace of mind knowing my 2080ti FTW3 ultra is ok and not going to go into flash mode on power up is well worth it .

Bios update 1201 doesn't appear to fix anything as far as I can tell, so much for false hope haha.

Didn't like the gigabyte board so I sent it back , it was nice it fixed the issue but I missed Asus
I have tried my FTW3 on my Asus XI Extreme with the new z390 chipset and its fine so far :)

Hi,
Got a Gigabyte Z370 as a motherboard, and a EVGA 2070 FTW3 and have the same problem.
I can only fix this by shutdown entirely my computer (turn off power on the computer power supply), wait 10 sec, and it should boot normaly.
I must do this everytime to not have the 3 red LED and the fan spinning at 100%

I can confirm that maybe Z370 is the issue ..?

Hello,

I have received my FTW3 from RMA yesterday, download and install the latest X1 ask me to update firmeware, Did it but issue with 100% fan and no led :/
Reboot, still issue, I uninstalled x1, reinstalled, ask me to update again, and it went smoothly. The only difference is that I had GPUZ open the 1st try.

When my middle fan decides to spin to max speed again I am still using the power off/power on method where I hold down the power off button and do a power flush, then turn back on and the fans spin correctly.

I haven't seen any other updates and it seems to be a motherboard issue for me.

I mean certain motherboards when paired with the RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra exhibit this issue for some reason unknown to all the users over the last few months that have had the same issue.

My motherboard is an EVGA X99 FTW K with latest bios and my RTX 2080 TI has the middle fan spin-up-issue. When the middle fan is spinning at 100% max, Precision X1 also only sees 2 fans and not 3. When I use the power on/off technique and get a quiet middle fan, Precision X1 sees all 3 fans. If I never remove power to the PSU when I shutdown then I can go 1-2 weeks without seeing the issue, but even then every once in a while I'll start it up and that fan spins up and sounds like a leaf blower, when it does, I go into the bios then turn the power off and keep holding the button for 15 seconds and then turn it back on and the first time usually fixes it but sometimes I have to repeat it a few times.

I tried it in my son's PC which has an EVGA X79 DARK motherboard and it works fine. I also have my BIOS in UEFI boot mode because I use an m.2 SSD. My son's PC uses legacy boot mode. I used to think maybe that was the issue but I don't think it is anymore since other users had the issue with legacy boot mode.

I also at first RMA'd my card and the replacement did the exact same thing. I think its something with the motherboard. Other users have seen the same thing.

It is a pain to have to do the power flush every now and then but I don't want to replace my motherboard yet.

There must be some type of incompatibility between some motherboards and the eVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra. I don't think its defective motherboards or even a defective video card.

evga needs to get their (removed) together and see what's causing this problem. there's no such a thing as incompatibility issue between motherboards and gpus. and if so, they need to address what kind of motherboards to buy. im sick of calling evga technical support and hear them telling me they never heard of this issue. like come on. its very frustrating to be honest knowing there wont be any fix and i need to guess which motherboard i need to buy for it to works.

Last December I was on the phone with them about this issue and they knew about it. Especially with all the forum posts about it. The latest MCU update partially resolved the issue but I still need to do a power flush now and then.  I've told them that personally on the phone. They asked me to put my FTW3 into another PC and I did so and it worked fine but it doesn't explain why it doesn't work correctly in my motherboard. Last I talked with them they said their engineers were still working on the issue. Up until now, I thought that was still the case.

For those still experiencing this. Can you try the following:

1. Completely turn off PC, including power off PSU.
2. Turn PC back on, run MCU updater before running anything else. If anything else starts with Windows, close it before running updater.

Some MB use a PLX chip to "give more PCIe resources" than the CPU physically has --> your Asus MB may have an issue because of PLX chip

If your MB has PLX use a PCIe slot that is Direct to the CPU if possible

I have the same problem with my new 2080 FTW3 & EVGA X99 Micro2 (test card with ASUS Z170 MAXIMUS VIII GENE - all fine).
EVGA approved my RMA request but I'm afraid to send the card because I do not know on which motherboard they will test it.
Pleasr tell me: can they return to my my card (by my expense) indicating that they did not find a malfunction?

When you say the same problem, do you mean the 3 red LED and Middle fan spins at 100%? That's what I think you mean. It also seems you put the card in another mainboard and it worked ok but in your EVGA X99 Micro2 it has this issue, several others have tried this also and it worked in another mainboard, including me. Can you make the FTW3 boot correctly by using the power flush method (holding the power button down for 15 seconds and then restarting)? Does the FTW3 prompt you to do a firmware update when you launch Precision X1? As far as if EVGA can return your same card after testing you will need to contact them directly, I suggest calling on the phone or emailing.
