So it runs well on my Q6600 computer, and I was thinking how would it do on my P4, so its slightly safer online?

its a p4 3.2, 2gb of ram, 500gb IDE drive, XP Home SP3

I ask because Avast free already chokes it half to death

On your P4 What are the 4 CPUs installed that will run with only 2GB of Ram?

    It is a Pentium 4? (Pentium 4 3.2HT -- Abit IC7-G -- 2gb DDR 400 -- Windows XP MCE 2005 -- Saphire X800 XT AIW) This must be it.
4P and 2P reference to motherboards with 4 CPU Sockets and 2 CPU Sockets.
Like my 4P it has to have one 1 GB per CPU install, same on my 2P

You might want to find a more lightweight AV for your P4 or avoid installing one altogether based on Avast's performance.

games that wont work on newer than XP, though i have a 40gb Windows 98 drive also for those really old games, but that doesn't go online, but on XP its for older games or games that work poorly on multi-core. It also has steam on it because I have a few older games on steam that hate mutli-core as well.

also its ok man, i looked at your profile, your forgiven, can't hold a senior citizen at fault:P

Try Panda Free. It's a lot less of a resource hog than other antivirus. If you're only using it for older games then your risk is low anyways.

I tried 360 before, and it slowed down my comp, and gave me occasional errors. With NIS I don't have those problems anymore. NIS is better, IMO.

The successor to NIS and 360 is Norton Security for your information.
