Looks really good but I don't like seeing the Xbox Exclusive logo at the start of it. I really hope that doesn't mean it's flight sim light with a focus on being easy enough for someone on a console. I hope that it's just that they have modes for those who don't want to worry about anything tricky like landing.

The original is from the 80's :)  Perhaps you're thinking of FSX (version 10) from the mid 2000's?  It's been so long because MS shut down the flightsim group a year or two after that one came out.

I thought Microsoft said, years ago, that they were abandoning the Microsoft Flight Simulator series.

Well, they did.  They shut down the original Flightsim studio, then a while later brought MS Flight which bombed hard, and it's been silent for years again until this.

Probably the best looking graphics for a flight sim I've seen so far.

    Thank you for that correction.

I have FSX on steam but did play the original on someone's Mac (Macintosh) growing up while the Chicago Bulls were playing the Portland Trailblazers in the finals (1992).

Some of them are really hardcore and hard to really have fun with if you don't know what you are doing. I was thinking about this though and after seeing how Forza has a good physics and ability to tinker around as much or as little as you want I feel they might be able to make a fun system that is also forgiving for those who just want to have fun and fly without worrying about crashing.

At least the last few versions of their flight sim, FSX, FS9, maybe FS8 had "realism" sliders so you could make it very easy to very realistic.  Not as easy as say MS Flight probably was (never touched it), but still.

For FSX I started with the box set and eventually moved to the Steam version since it fixed a few longstanding performance bugs/issues and I've spent literally 100's on high res addon scenery, terrain mesh, full blown aircraft sim addons like the 737 from PMDG studio (it literally comes with PDF's of the real airplane's manuals).  Hopefully this new sim will keep that open addon concept alive.  That was one big thing that killed Flight along with not having an entire world covered.

fsx cd version was the best if you knew how to set it up, the steam version was trash and was a easy slider all by itself lol
you can't even get 1/4 of the addons with the steam version.

Uhhhh, say what?  Steam version is the exact same as the CD version but with a few fixes to longstanding bugs (don't need as many fsx.cfg tweaks) and reworked multiplayer.  I literally have over 100GB of scenery, terrain, aircraft addons installed into it.  They work just like in the CD version though some payware addons may have needed their installers updated to be fully compatible.  REX, ORBX, PMDG, etc. all updated their stuff to work with it at no extra cost.  Other stuff like my QualityWings BAe 146 worked anyway.

You do not have to buy addons for the steam version only through steam.  Yes many devs did release their addons to steam to make it "easier to install" them, but you can still get them the traditional ways as well.  I even have a bunch of the standard Avsim/flightsim.com freeware things installed.

Just as long the Boeing 747 is a part of it, I'm all in for this beauty!

And I remember doing real time flights from Amsterdam The Netherlands to Perth Western Australia & Sydney New South Whales, Australia with my Thai Airways International B747-4D7.
Which you can see here when I used FS2006 aka FSX with Rex 2.1 HD and some airport packs, rendered with 2x EVGA GTX 295 Red Editions in 2012:

Ahh good times, missed the series though, the skin I used was one of them free ones.
And I know there were much better skin packs, but I never could find the proper Thai B747-400 packs back then, as I may have now.

Hopefully the new game won't be a addon leach like the FSX one.  $1000+ for addons?  Really?  How about giving those for free (like the old days) or bundling them at a reasonable price.

I think the soon to be new CoD:MW is using the old platform of giving their added maps for free which has me interested.

Yeah well if you are planning on professional kits you can make it as expensive as you like really, like buying your own Boeing 737NG or B747-4xx Cockpit for example and connect that to your flight sim machine or machines.
The Aviation Megastore here in NL Sells parts for these cool things:
    https://www.aviationmegastore.com/cat/cockpit-building-355.html
Tons of cockpit building materials there

    There also have this
    https://www.737-simulator.com/en/

I been there last year, always a pleasure sniffing around there, here some pics from that day:

Yet I do like how X-Plane has improved over the years, X-Plane 11.5 was the latest version even Multi Socket users can get the max out of it that is what I would love to get with FS2020 tbh,as SMP Support goes.
But yea 1000+USD for add-ons isn't much, you can go over 40KUSD or even more it depends how far you'd want to take it
I know a few that went over 40K EUR for their flightsim systems, some of these people are B747 pilots from my Boeing 747 Community as well, it' sa fantastic but expensive hobby if you want to have the most realistic simulation system that actually mimics the real thing, I also have a few members that bought Boeing 747-400 cockpits the entire head part of the aircraft and used these for their flightsim systems, seens some crazy stuff considering this subject.

If you're going to go simpit, at least do it right and use a real cockpit. The costs are similar to kits. I've done several of them using real cut fuselage. Makes for a fun project. It's like a 1:1 scale model.

X-Plane 11 has done some really great things over X-Plane 10. The scenery detail is wonderful. A bonus with OrbX new scenery packs for X-Plane too. Looks like real exterior visuals now.

I think the soon to be new CoD:MW is using the old platform of giving their added maps for free which has me interested.

Addon leach?  What do you mean?  FS addons have always been 3rd party developers both free and payware, and going back to maybe FS2000 or earlier.  It's not required in any way and it was never from MS directly.  Unlike MS Flight a couple years ago where everything including more sections of the base world were DLC from MS.

Hopefully the new game won't be a addon leach like the FSX one.  $1000+ for addons?  Really?  How about giving those for free (like the old days) or bundling them at a reasonable price.

Agreed. Some of the best stuff out there for Flgiht Sims are third party. Just look to OrbX and others as an example. It's idiotic to think that those should be free with all the time and detail put into them.

Many of us learned to fly using MSFS.  It is a fantastic tool to learn about flying and keep your skills sharp as a pilot.  This looks incredible and is long overdue.  As soon as it is released will be purchasing a new rig to run it.

I was wondering how it would manage to store the data but streaming for the microsoft servers makes sense but it also makes me wonder about the long term support the game will have. For a flight sim if it's good people could be playing it for a long time.

The video mentioned use of an offline mode.  He also seemed to be talking from the perspective of it running on a console.  So hopefully the PC version will allow a full offline install otherwise yeah I can see that being an issue.  Man that video looks amazing though.  If it can show that kind of detail on current systems and somehow manage to stay @ or above 30FPS.  I was thinking of switching from FSX to Prepar3d 4.x but I might hold off and see how this goes since we're probably talking $60-70 for this vs about $200 for the "correct" Prepar3d license.  Benefit of going with the LM product for me though is that most of my scenery addons already work with it (OrbX and REX Texture Direct 4.x) and I just have to buy a few planes at some point like a new version of the PMDG 737 that I really like and some small prop stuff for casual sightseeing.

Only flight sim I ever enjoyed was IL-2. However, this looks promising, may have to check it out.
