Its been a bit since I had a gaming PC (life, kids, house) so I decided to get back into it. I didn't want to invest in a newer setup since Broadwell-E and Zen are on the horizon, so instead I used my old motherboard that was in my NAS. My biggest issue so far was the fact that I could be playing say SC2 and the system could freeze, which would need a reset to get out of. This is a very intermittent issue, however it happened twice so far in the last 3 days. Nothing in the windows logs other than the usual "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first".
I ran furmark for at least 45 minutes, and no issues - max is 82C. Prime95 also shows no issues on runs. Ambient is usually around 67 degrees F. As per Corsair link, power supply is running @ 91% efficient with ~430 watts of output and usually in the lower 40s C (never really saw the PSU fan go on except boot). RAM was also replaced cause there was an error (error confident value of 236). This is a new install of Windows 10 also.
Here are my PC specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition ASUS M4A78T-E EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti FTW (361.43) Windows 10 Pro, 64bit 16 GB DDR3-1600 Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB Corsair RM850i Creative SB X-Fi

Going to update to 361.60 to see if it helps.

Can you try any an OSD reporting you GPU temp, core frequency, usage, CPU temp and usage? Perhaps one of your components might not be so transparent about what might be failing during gaming. Also have you tried updating & resetting BIOS to the defaults and going on with it for some time?
i7-2600k@4.4GHz and 980Ti until it BURNS

Does the freeze only occur in sc2? Have you tested any other games?

Just happened again playing CSGO. Here is the OSD for that session right before the freeze. This is also with installing 361.60. This is out of the box, no overclocking, nothing done - straight FTW edition base. GPU: 1190MHz Mem: 3506MHz GPU Temp: 69C Usage: 24% Bus: 10% Memory Usage: 1258MB Fan Speed: 27% Fan Tachometer: 910RPM System has the latest BIOS updates, and it has been reset to defaults before installed Windows 10. Also, I don't expect anymore soon since its from sometime ago.

Uninstall all monitoring software, msi afterburner, precision x, etc, then reboot your computer and retest the system without any monitoring software. Still freezing without any monitoring software installed?

Yes, I installed all those monitoring software after I had issues. I picked up this card to be a simple set it and forget it type, however its not turning out to be that.

Please run the card in debug mode and let me know if you're still freezing or not. How to run your gpu in debug mode... #1 Open nvidia control panel, select help, enable debug mode. If you can't enable debug mode try underclocking the card with msi afterburner. Set core clock (MHz) to -105 or as far negative as you can set it. Set memory clock (mhz) to -105. Click apply (check mark button) to apply the changes. Leave afterburner open while retesting the system.

These freezes happen to me also. I assumed it was SLI or driver related ill try this also and see what happens.

I tested it for a few matches will debug mode enabled, but since it part of the FTW BIOS it still did 1190/3506. Since this problem is intermittent, it can show up anytime unfortunately.

Use afterburner to underclock the card.

Use afterburner to underclock the card.
I will, however to add to this - I have also done the following: *Ran OC Scanner X and looked for artifacts (Furry E (GPU memory burner::3072MB)) *Ran memtestCL - memtestcl --ramclock 3506 (or even 7010) --coreclock 1190 3072 1000 None of these could find any fault in memory.

I have updated my google sheet with my lower clocks (-90c on GPU and -201 on mem) - labeled "GPU-Z Sensor Log - SC2 - Lower Clock Speeds". I did not crash during that period.

Also updated the sheet to include the Heaven demo as well as benchmark. GPU reached into the lower 80c (with auto profile). PSU at the time the demo was running with aggressive fan profile (see attached).

Time to rma your card as it's not able to perform at factory clocks.

So I too have the same issue. I can play games and nothing happens but then my PC will randomly freeze when idle or when browsing the web. It happens about once every other day. I had a similar issue with an ZOTAC AMP! edition, and the problem went away when I under-clocked. But with that card you could fully see that your gpu stopped working and that it restarted. However with my 980 Ti FTW the crashes make the screen go grey and the sound freezes too. So I have to press the reset button. This is my first EVGA card and I thought I'd be safe buying EVGA :(
