I can confirm also that with "no" advmethods flag used, I have picked
up three 8033 wu's.

Snagged 8032 - 3843points - 19,360 PPD on 560Ti
no advmethod but 5-10c higher than normal
Thought something was wrong with my cooling lol, had to open a window.

what temp does your 560 ti's run with these? both my GTX 570's are 83c and 86c at auto fan speed (56 - 60%)

Never knew auto moved lols. It hits my fan profile for 75% and I'm currently hovering around 77c
I'm usually around 70c or under.

of course it does auto fan speed will scale the fan speed based on the GPU temp detected, been that way for the last several generations of video cards.

my 570 for example is around 40% fan idle, and 60% fan load.

Re:New GPU WU 8032? 2012/02/21 05:54:28 (permalink)
For the better cards these new wu's seem to be a nice addition. The increase in temps can be controlled with fan adjustments typically.

However my GT-430 get's no point's increase and the heat increase is not as tolerable as the other rigs because of the size of the case and airflow conditions.

So how can I opt out of these wu's? What, I can't??? (no advmethods flag checked) Seems like we're going down the same path as the SMP 101xx wu's that are driving older/lessor hardware out of the game.

I agree with troy8d that these will screw up the contest a little too, in terms of predicted points and work units. Good luck troy!

Yea these wus are great besides having more heat. I don't think I can let both of my gpus run though, temps just keep rising.

Edit: nvm my precision did boot with my computer for some reason. It was only blowing at 60% when it was at 89c!!! Worst auto fan ever.

I thought I heard the fan running a little louder.  Saw my temps were up a bit in afterburner, didn't even think to check what kind of WU I was folding.

Edit:
My 480 is pulling just shy of 21k PPD at 808MHz, 79C 79% fan

Ah great.. now both my GPUs have em lol
38,778 PPD together! But gawd with both having them my fan profiles hit 80% with the window open for cold air @78-79c. I don't think I can do these in the summer lol.

Ha woke up this morning to a frozen computer. So after some fiddling, I've almost reached the same overclock without overvolting. Temps are back to where they were before the new WUs. I guess I had my 460s unnecessarily overvolted before. Good to know!

Nice... I just noticed the new WUs. 24k on each 580 with 8031. I'm a little bummed that I completed 6 of these without the fan cranked to maximum. One card was at 95 degrees probably most of the day. I don't mind the fan noise or the heat in the room. This is my first winter folding and my furnace rarely turns on, I might even open a window tonight.

asus939

advmethods no check mark and still getting them.being forced to do these is to much

Why, what is the problem? Also no one is forcing you to do anything if you don't want to fold then don't.

My only problem was picking one up right as I left for work and not knowing how hot they ran and I had my first failed WU ever on my card. At stock clocks now and no problem just running as hot as other WU's @ my overclocked settings. Caluclated gain of around 2-3k PPD though even at my cards stock clocks as opposed to my overclock settings on other work units.

My card is a GTX 460SC EE 1gb 256-bit usually running @ FTW speed. 14,000ppd

lol i just picked up my first one last night and being as paranoid as i am about temps with my GTX 580 OCed to about 940MHz (varies acording to temps) i am running in the mid 70's with my fans all maxed in my whole rig, impossible to sleep with the machine on (has to be in my bedroom) so i can't fold 24/7 with these work units however i still am gaining PPD over to old smaller work units, and it took me all day today to finish that first workunit and get halfway through the second one...

Well, seems I'm not the only one with these questions.
I picked up a 8031 WU, its going very slow, but my GTX460 is not breaking 69c with stock EVGA cooler and 50% fan speed. The card is EVGA factory OC'd.

I have no doubt this is why my 250 is churning out bad WU's

 I'm pretty sure these WUs are only for advmethods. Looks promising!
What card is that LR? GTX 580, I presume... Almost 30K, not bad at all!

I'm not running advmethod and GTX 580 920/1840 FAH Tracker is estimating 25.6K PPD. Recieved 8 WU from project 8031 - 8033. I estimate a temp increase of about 10C on the card as well.

GTS 450 had 2 successfull WU and may have overheat, dropping several WUs.

What is the deal with the beta testers? Are they not supposed to catch such problems before the units are released?

Does any one else have a hard set maximum fan speed set to 85% on a EVGA 580 SC? Sure would like the fan to ramp to 100%, if it needs it on these hot WUs. Currently running 81 - 83C after removing a GPU to create more air flow.

Picked up one this morning on my 580.  It is at 18% and the stats are:

WU = 8031
Client = FAH641 Console
GTX580 (3GB) stock speed (Core = 772, Shader = 1544)
TPF = 2:22
Est PPD = 23385
Precision Temp = 78C at 70% fan
Predicted time to complete = 3hr 56min
Nvidia Driver = 285.62

So far, I'm liking it.

Edit:  Forgot to add the Nvidia Driver version.

Re:New GPU WU 8032? 2012/02/22 04:11:53 (permalink)
I got 2 8033 Wus this morning and my clients just stopped. It said they went to sleep because the core had failed 5 times in a row. I checked and there were no failures. It went directly from uploading the 8031s to downloading the 8033s, and then just going to sleep. I use the console client btw.

Woke up to 8031 completed, now working on a 8032. Temps still stable at 70c with 50% fan.
TPF: 4:02
PPD: 13k

Core2 Quad Q8400 still chewing on this 10127 WU. Not breaking 59c with stock Intel HSF.
