I thought I had. Unless I missed it somewhere. Added it to my evga profile and it's showing on the myfolding.asp page.

First, welcome to all new and returning teammates!  Just catching up on the last couple pages.

I'm not really sure what I'm doing. But it was easier to setup than I thought it would be. It was fairly easy. Select a user name, give me a passkey, and let the computer generate heat. My machine blue screened once but hasn't again. Could have been anything. Haven't seen any issues since. Although it's not been 24 hours yet.

Keep an eye on it and make sure temps are okay.  If there is an issue with the system, folding will definitely help bring it to light.
Try running everything at default speeds (GPU, CPU, etc.) and close other programs not needed when folding.  Make sure drivers are up to date.
You may even lower the temp and power target on the GPU to reduce heat/clock speed at the expense of a small points decrease.

The first time it blue screened was shortly after I had installed it and had things going. The second time was overnight with nothing else running. I've been tweaking it today. A friend of mine told me the processor at that boost speed could be a bit unstable. I don't really want to push the CPU since I don't want to deal with replacing it if I'd push it too far. For now I've just taken it(an i7 7700k) off the folding. I'll see if it's stable just on the GPU. I'm trying to replace the 1080 whenever my spot comes up for the 3080 ftw3 queue anyway so.

What power supply are you using? I've seen power supply issues when close to capacity.

Ah, in that case it definitely sounds like a slight instability with an overclock.
My 2080Ti and 10900X was pulling more than my PSU could reliably supply.
Good Luck with your upgrade and welcome to the team.

Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN 2020/12/12 08:15:28 (permalink)

I folded for a short time years ago, most likely under an email that no longer exists, so effectively I'm a born-again noob. I'm looking to start up a little, at least for the 2020 Time Zone Challenge, and now I just need to look through and see where the software is and how to set everything up and register etc... basically starting from scratch with no real idea what I'm doing lol.

Also, I am donating a brand new, unopened, EVGA RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra GPU for the 2020 Time Zone Challenge.

Thanks to a lot of people using my associate code since the 3000 series launch, EVGA Bucks have paid for a new EVGA 1000 T2 PSU and $67 off my 3090 FTW3 Ultra. As thanks and "paying it forward" for all the people who used my associate code and rewards/affiliate code, I used EVGA Bucks to fully purchase a new RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra GPU (except tax & shipping) to give away. Rather than give it away on the open forums or Friday podcast where the winner could be anyone and they could just sell it, EVGA Forum Moderator The_Scarlet_One brought the 2020 Time Zone Challenge to my attention, and this seems a much better way to give the GPU away - it's for a good cause, will likely go to an EVGA forum member, and hopefully will be used for folding rather than sold.

Cheers!

p.s. I might be slow to start - my 3090 has issues and I'm waiting for an RMA card to arrive. Hopefully I'll be set up in time for the 2020 Time Zone Challenge. I have a 980 Ti card I keep as an emergency backup GPU, which I can use if all else fails. Current 3090 can't manage a game of Civ V for long, so I doubt it will handle folding.

Do I need to get a passkey, or it's fine using just my name and team number? Also appears there are already points under my name... not sure if that was someone else using my name, or me from years ago, but I think it's the former. I like this setup using the browser way more than the last time I used it. Presumably we're folding for Covid19  ..or just anything?

You will definitely want a passkey as it gives you a QRB (quick return bonus). You can choose to fold for any cause you want or leave it at "Any" and it will choose projects for you based on priority. Currently, most projects are tied to Covid19.

Thanks Alsocom. Well just started, and I got through about 20-25% of a unit on the GPU side and Precision X shut down, then something I've never seen before is a single tab in FireFox closed itself.. then another, then the GPU side stopped completely. Tried to restart and found the work my GPU had done was lost and it started again from zero, although the CPU side was still crunching along. Got to 5% on GPU and I got a BSOD and reset. Already have my 3090 in for advanced RMA, just waiting on a replacement. The 3090 was on defaults btw, no overclock. I've set the client for 'light' so it only uses the CPU now. If I get time tomorrow I'll take out the 3090 and put in my emergency 980 TI card, better than nothing.

I'm trying to figure out where to get the passkey... :/
Found it. https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey

That's OK. With the QRB, you will more than make up for any lost points. I will be interested to see how your 3090 does when you get it back from RMA. My 3080 FTW3 Ultra can go from ~5.8 - 7 Mil/ppd and the 3080 XC3 Ultra is about .5 mil/ppd less.

I just joined last month (November 2020), but there is no option to fill in the form my accurate data :(.
Also my folding id and community are slightly different:
gaelex vs. Gaelex
So they might not match exactly

#IHaveReturned

https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor/238643 - das me!  I changed my handle from when I was on NVidia forums waaaaay back when, but at one point I had 2 rigs folding on a total of 7 GPUs back then.  Imagine the sweet sound of 7 R9 290X blower-style cards running at 100% fan speed - and somehow I still slept in that room. lol

And I shall rain greatness upon thee... j/k I'll only be folding part time on my 3090, but at least I'm contributing something ^_^ should be good for at least 3.5M PPD on a part-time gig, system says it should be 6.5-7M PPD if done full time.

Razorhog
Hello all!  Joining the FaH crew.  Just fired up my unused 2013 Mac Pro with 6-core Xeon cpu, 32gb ram and AMD Firepro D500 3GB GPU.  I set the research support to "any disease" and the power slider to Full and "while I'm working".  Is that all I need to do? Any tips/tricks?  Thanks

Make sure you setup a PassKey (click Configure on the Advanced Window & you'll see a link on how to get a PassKey on the Identity tab), make sure you're setup for Team eVGA (111065), give yourself a Name, get your PassKey inputted, so you get bonus points for time of completion, and you're good to go, I think.
You will only start actually getting bonus points after completing 10 Work Units, if memory serves - it does this to ensure you are a reliable folder & that your system won't spit back failed WUs first.
