https://www.techpowerup.com/322770/nvidia-rtx-5090-blackwell-founders-edition-to-implement-the-rtx-4090-ti-cinderblock-design

NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition graphics card may implement a design closely resembling the cinder block product design the company readied for its RTX 4090 Ti graphics card that never materialized into a marketable product. This sees a 4-slot thick board design, with a slender main logic PCB arranged along the plane of the motherboard, on top of which the cooling solution is mounted perpendicular to the plane, as shown in the images below. This main logic board contains the GPU, memory, and VRM. There two additional PCBs—one has the display I/O, and the other has the PCIe interface. There is a fourth disaggregated component, the 12V-2x6 receptacle, located somewhere along the top of the cooling solution.

Confirmation of NVIDIA using the RTX 4090 Ti "cinder block" board design for the RTX 5090 comes from kopite7kimi, a reliable source with NVIDIA leaks. Kopite7kimi mentions a card that has a "Main Board, IO Rigid Board and a separate PCIE slot component (perhaps it should not be considered as the third PCB)," which perfectly describes with the RTX 4090 Ti. NVIDIA had completed the design phase of this card, which made it to its cooling solution OEM (which is likely where the images leaked out from). The company probably decided against launching this product because the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX fell significantly short of the performance proposition of the RTX 4090.

If this is true this might be a very wide sized card.

Woah. That's insanely huge. Bet it sounds like a jet engine under load too. When air cooling necessitates something that big, maybe NVidia should start thinking about producing AiO cards, although I imagine having multiple PCB's is going to make converting to water cooling a headache to say the least.

How much does your PC weigh? Well, I got 500lbs in the GPU, 50lbs in the PC, so about 550lbs. This makes me seriously consider going back to GPU water cooling.

My main concern is how much NVIDIA intends to charge the consumer.

Hmm…a Rolex that retains its value or a GPU.

Might be hard pressed to find a legit Rolex for only a couple of thousands dollars.

I was being sarcastic in terms of with how Nvidia is inflating prices, imagine if they reach $4-$5k. 🤣 There are preowned smaller mm Rolex in the $3k range, though.

    Beautiful Tag =)

Cheers, I love it - could not have picked better style if I tried (my Mrs picked it with zero input from me!)

I used to wear it as my daily to work, but not anymore - I live in NYC, too high a chance of getting mugged these days. I have a Citizen Eco-drive moon phase watch I wear instead (if I wear a watch at all) which was still pretty expensive at around $500. (link for image).

Lovely Citizen! I feel like Eco-drives have always been underrated. Probably the stigma on believing anything light powered will immediately or shortly die even though these have years worth of a power reserve. My sympathies on not being able to wear either every day. =( I almost feel naked without a watch, and it always feels great in wearing what you earned.

Patiently building up "points" at work so I can get some gift cards to knock a chunk of the price off one of these. Hoping nvidia fixes their DSC issues and the 12VHPWR issues.

As long as your popular enough, you can get away with anything.

Now the leakers are saying 5090 is 2-slot, 2 fan card. I'm curious if this is a "well, "5090" is 2-slot, but now there'll be a 5090-ti-super-titan that's a monstrosity" situation.
