In the device manager there are several devices that identify as 'Z590' on my X570 FTW... more than likely this is 90% the same board with different chipset, socket, bios, and branding.  I wonder how if this was a single board or if it was an entire batch where they slapped the wrong branding plateon it?

Yes I bought an X570, Z590 doesn't support AMD processors and I most certainly have an AMD Ryzen 5950x.

The z590 devices showing up in device manager seems tells me that this model of motherboard is just a slightly modified z590.  They swapped out the Intel chipset / socket for an AMD socket / x570 chipset.  All other non-platform specific components on the board are probably from the z590 board.

The devices that show up in device manager are micro controllers, probably related to RGB / fan control. Since these aren't platform specific, it makes sense for them to be shared between two similar boards.  Having them identify as x570 / z590 even though they are identical parts would increase overhead and potentially leave them with unusable stock that could be used to make a board of the opposite model.

This is EVGAs first AMD board in a long time (if ever?), so it makes sense they wanted to go the safe route.  They modified an existing board design and re-used as much of the components of said board as they could. As evidenced by the OP having z590 branding instead of x570, they also share the same production line.

I have a X570 Dark and in the device manager is it showing me an Z590 MCU aswell. 
It was the same on the board I RMA'd 

Both of these are correct, i think there were posts revealing that even the BIOS code contains Z590 in places. I have certainly seen some of the drivers suggesting similar.
It is indeed starting out the same as a Z590 board in the manufacturing and seems like key elements change. This explains why the person with the X570 board received a Z590 cover accidentally, that step in manufacturing got overlooked.
That being said i didn't experience any kind of issues whatsoever.
