Yeah but as our production has taken a hit [H] remains strong. Where is the team spirit gone to retake (and hold) the top spot? Bth I'm more annoyed at nvidia for crippling folding in there newer drivers for my 680. I take a over 50% hit if I use the game ready drivers.

If the top two in H were to join and become their own team they would be the Number Three team averaging over 23 million PPD. With that kind of power they earned #1 and their lead is growing daily. Be Corporate use does not mater as the end result is research.

I do hope it is something good for those of us that have made an investment in socket F server boards. But I have a feeling that we are going to see something related to GPU. Also glad to see you are still around, don't be a stranger here, all are welcome.

I tried every driver I could load only 320.49 drivers seem to work ok for folding and gaming . Rest up to 2 latest gave me driver stopped working **** well gaming. Latest drivers work good for gaming but suck hind tit for folding.

It's very cruel to drop tantalizing bombs like that. I think to live up to such a pronouncement, you'll have to announce that we can run FAH on our brains (even while you're sleeping, indeed!). Or maybe just a double-whammy of CUDA JIT compiler and multi-GPU folding with fantastic scaling.

texingaPeople ought to Crunch for a bit to help get a new perspective on chasing "points". My 4P is working on the WCG Clean Energy project that takes ~18hrs for each WU and delivers a whopping 358 points. Folding is a great project that is very worthwhile to do. But the "points" of Folding have created this unhealthy "gotta have a certain amount or it isn't worth my while" thinking. I've chased them too and know what that feels like to do it. But my fellow team-mates, it may be time to advance in our thinking and get beyond the effects of these points. They are both necessary and distracting at the same time. I would encourage you to think on what brought you here in the first place. I think for many of us it was not the "points". Once you get here, then the points start taking over and become the thing that drives us. Grab hold of that thing and put it back where it belongs (in the back seat).
I agree, World Community Grid is such a breath of fresh air everyone should try it. Especially if they're frustrated with Folding@home PPD nonsense and need a break.

What besides ankle-bitters and all of BA are they going to kill, GPU folding too?
Why does big change have to equate to project death?

I think it is because the scientist's needs (whether one agrees with them or not) are not positively managed for donors to embrace. We all know that change happens and needs to happen. In this case (where donors are investing significant time, money and interest) that change has not been managed so that it actually encourages donors to want to do more. It's a basic concept in life that positive motivation works better than negative motivation. How PG (that so heavily depends upon donors) has not fully grasped/embraced that concept, escapes my understanding. The changes that PG wants/needs to make (that can have negative impact), need to be managed (coupled) with moves that will at the same time encourage donors to keep going. If you close down a lane(s) of opportunity, open some new ones too so that donors can shift gears and keep moving ahead. Instead, what PG has done over and over is to make a move and allow that change to stop traffic without providing anything to keep donor motivation alive and moving forward. What they first need (before a donor liaison) is a change in their own thinking so that new liaison is not spending their time patching wounds.

Perhaps the big change is a reset of all points to zero. They have done it before. It would make sense since the QRB totally destroyed the points system that was in existence.

That was before my time in Folding and I'm curious as to when they did that in the past and why? I'm guessing that must have been a "big hit" with Folders... To do something like that now would have be akin to "donor extermination" under current conditions.

I don't get why the panda group is so interested in ticking off contributors. What do THEY actually give with points? Zero So whats the point of making contributors angry. For brilliant minds they sure don't make intelligent decisions.

MDK... where did you get this info? If true then there is much to worry about... if they are lying or hiding numbers to bolster their post about *corporate donors* then there is a really big issue here. If they are willing to stop updating numbers then the only logical conclusion I can draw is there is fear here. I can't but wonder why they wish to hide things... unless the truth is slowly coming out.

The actual stats count is at http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=osstats2. There's probably a bug on the main page causing the figure there to not update. I've brought it up in a post over at FF, and I'll keep bugging people until it gets fixed.

Probably trying to hide it from real cash donors that might think this project is now a flop and no longer would donate to a lost cause. They get a good bit of financial backing as donations/tax write offs.

...and we haven't even (yet) crossed the 50 day "active CPU" threshold from when the changes to Bigadv were announced. There is a lot more decline to come that has not been seen. When I think on all this stuff, I don't wish these declines on Folding and am discouraged to see it. It is a sign of the environmental donor effect that PG has so poorly managed for years and I feel it has finally "come home to roost". Every time they drop a bomb on Folders, they don't seem to have the forethought to positively try to manage the situation. I'm not saying they can anticipate every change either, just that they do a very poor job of executing it when it needs to happen.

Eh... I stated what little case I have over at FF... seems the only PM's I get is from site mods that seem to believe it is their absolute duty to turn a thread into 'actual contributions'. I think they missed my humor in the second to the last post I made there. Either way... I'm selling my 4P off and picking up some GPU's over the next month or so to boost my system so I can do a bit more for GPUGrid etc.

Yes, the Mods at FF are well..."not my cup of tea". I think they too just don't know how to handle the changes that PG implements and the resulting threads that develop from them. There is nothing new to say about it that's for sure and I'm moving-on from even caring to check if they ever handle donors better. For me, my 4P is staying in-service to Crunching. It cranks out a lot of WUs every day and I don't need to care about PPD/watt with Crunching. If ya can do it, I say keep those 4P's hummin' where their power is appreciated, welcome and won't be summarily cast aside as not useful.

How many gaming GPUs do you need to float the streets of Gotham? Or are you getting like me and have so many grand-kids that you now need multiple gaming rigs for them when they come to visit. I tell ya, watching 2 of my 3 grandsons work in Minecraft is nothing short of a thing of beauty. These little guys blow me away with what they can create. One day, I'll just have them be my IT support too.
