So, last night I’ve locked my screen and when I came back to my PC, found a pink screen and the system unresponsive, restarted PC and can’t get into win10 (hangs on black screen). Upon dissection of the case, got a vga led on MB, the system doesn’t post anymore with PCIE gpu, but able to get into windows with the output set to iGPU.
Build specs:
MB: Asus P8Z68 V-PRO
CPU: I7 2600K @ 4.6 GHz
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
PSU: Corsair HX 1050
RAM : DDR3 Kingston HyperX Fury 32GB @1866
GPU: EVGA GTX 980 ti K|NGP|N (running top slot at PCIE x16) outputting to 2 displays via DVI out and mDP
Boot drive: OCZ Vertex 4 (win 10 update 1709 (KB4093105), may 2018)
Here are the solutions that I have attempted:
-boot into safe mode with output from gpu:
* successful first few times, was able to remove drivers and all nvdia related software. Unable to perform clean install of the drivers, the system hangs when installing display driver (when it tried to switch from low rez output to HD)
-try to wake display with win+ctrl+shift+b
-try to switch display output with win+p
-try to run with one memory stick (in case it was ram related, tried all 4 sticks individually)
-try to boot into win 10 through iGPU.
*this was successful. iGPU outputs without an issue.
-reset CMOS.
-try a different PCIE slot.
-try a different gpu bios setting (switch from OC position to normal)
-flash gpu bios (version 84.00.36.02.90)
-try to repair win10 startup problems.
I do not have a different PCIe device to see if it’s a problem with the slots, however when I was flashing the gpu bios, the nvflash —list showed the gpu in the slot and all the other devices.
Also when the gpu is in the PCIe slot, the fans spin, the bios setting led on the back of the pcb displays, but all the other led are inactive.
