I thought for sure when I grabbed my 3090 in Nov 2020 I wouldn't be stuck in the same situation when my son's computer needed an update...but here we are. This 3050 might fit the bill for his 1080p gaming.

evgaglobaluser Hi all First posting here. Looking to get an rtx 3050 when it drops later this month to replace a gtx 1650s that is falling apart. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this will pair well with an i5-8400 (primarily fps's - cs, valor, etc.)? I've got another rig with an i5-11400 which I know would pair better but for now I'm just upgrading the 8400. Thanks.
OK, here's my thoughts. In my past i5 builds (mostly i5-9400), I used rx580/590, 1650s, 1660, 1660s, 2060, 2060s. The most even matchup was the 1660s. Most of the preliminary testing I've seen put the gaming performance of the RTX 3050 at just below the 1660s level, but above 1650s and 1660. IMO, a 3050 should therefore be a good match for any recent i5.

I'm pretty sure some time on or after January 27th, 2022 (so sometime this month), since that's when the Founders Edition RTX-3050 releases straight from Nvidia, (which will be gone within nanoseconds.) I'm sure for legal reasons all AIBs can't release before the 27th so you should expect it around then, but really no way to know until they announce it themselves.
The GTX-1050 TI is extremely underrated, and no one can tell me otherwise.

The I5-8400 is a pretty capable little CPU. It's a bit old for sure but it has 6 cores + 6 threads and boosts to 4 GHz. The RTX-3050 judging by what I've read as of late should be similar in performance to that of a GTX-1660 or a GTX-1660 TI, and you've been running a 1650 which is pretty close to both of those cards, so it should run just fine. You might lose a wee bit of performance but it shouldn't be anything to loose sleep over. Tl;Dr - Yes your CPU should be a very nice pair with the RTX-3050 (as long as you can get your hands on one that is! )

BLUESMAN68 Dear Evga , Please understand that you are killing the gamer community by making multiple cards and not allowing us ( gamer's ) to purchase them without jumping through multiple hoops !!! Elite member or long time supporter does not matter to you.I really hope when this 3050 card comes out you will have the stock needed to fully fill all in need.Furthermore fix stock before announcing other cards launch to just have paper launch's . Thanks
EVGA doesn't control the amount of stock they get from Nvidia. So they make what they can ASAP based on incoming stock of GPU chips from NVidia.

I'm hoping that it will be slightly better than the 1660Ti based on the benchmark charts that were posted: Then comparing a 1650 to a 1660ti shows this: I'm hoping that the performance levels is close to the 1070.

Without counting DLSS, I'm estimating 3050 would perform below a 1660 Ti or a 1070.

It should be beating it and much more with DLSS. Let's not forget, this is a new architecture with advanced cores, etc. It will all come down to drivers and devs. tevvie Any idea when more benchmarks are going to be released?
As soon as the NDA is removed which should be on or around the launch date. Sometimes you might seem them released a week before but we shall see.

We can only hope it would beat a 1660 Ti. There's a math involved in GPU performance and dev/drivers can be optimized to a point. Having a both the "mobile" version of 3050 and 1660 Ti, I've already seen how 1660 Ti beats the 3050. I'm well aware there's always a difference between mobile and desktop versions but we're talking about the same company here that positions their product very well. So even without looking at the numbers, I am going by the assumption that their GPU "position" on mobile performance will be the same on desktop side, i.e. 1660 Ti > 3050 Ti > 3050. The 3050 Ti vs 1660 Ti would be really close.

That would be unfortunate, makes it personally hard to justify buying it at that level of performance.

Glad they're catering to the 1080P market, as 1440 and 4K are just getting too expensive. Also seems like there needs to be a little more headway in technology for 4K to be even feasible for decent frame rates.

SyndicatedLife It's not like anyone's going to get it right away. The queue system is off; I've been trying since the launch of the 30 series to get a GPU and it's just not happening. Most cards in the queue are fulfilling 2021 orders now: not too many 2020 entries left. So maybe I we'll all have our 30-series by the end of 2022?
Ahh, just in time for the 40xx card and their associated queues

Perhaps we should wait for the actual desktop release and review benchmarks. Hard to compare theoretical performance and the more recent mobile driver release appears to have improved the 3050 performance. I was disappointed last year as I thought it would at least match my older 1660 Ti. Then recent driver update has improved a lot, although there are still a few games - and timespy - where the 1660 Ti edges out the 3050. Turn on DLSS and the 3050 takes the lead. I do hope that pricing of 3050 would be fair for the majority of gamers. It doesn't really need to be expensive.
