https://www.tweaktown.com/news/69514/intel-core-i9-10900k-3-7ghz-base-clock-velocity-boost-5-3ghz/index.html The Intel Core i9-10900K will have a base CPU clock of 3.7GHz, single turbo of 5.1GHz, max turbo boost of 5.2GHz and a mysterious new 'velocity boost' of 5.3GHz. The new velocity boost is something that isn't quite that new -- but it will be for most people. Intel has used Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB) previously in notebook CPU designs, but it seems it could be skipping the silicon pond into the desktop CPU realm with its new Core i9-10900K (and I'm sure, other 10th Gen CPU designs). The Thermal Velocity Boost on the Core i9-10900K will be 5.3GHz. And now... we wait for more details, which should hopefully appear at CES 2020 which is right around the corner. At 14nm though I personally expect a high TDP and lots of heat.

I'm weary when marketing starts changing terminology just to randomly screw with perception with word salad. So, clock boost is now "velocity boost"? Someone smack Intel marketing for me.

Higher boost potential based on temperature. Innovative. lol

I rather punch the Marketing team. Just like Nvidia, Intel is trying to come out with new terminology to sell products....🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣.
T hose who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way. Affiliate Code: 3T15O1S07G

It sounds like all they are doing is a little tweak to amend the throttling to allow a higher boost if the temperatures are within a certain threshold. Hardly innovative. Is this the best they can do? Going by the 9900K thermal performance, without solid water cooling, this 'velocity boost' will never come into play anyway. Smells like desperation to me.

I wouldn't say desperation but I would rather say that this is what Intel intends to do as a stop-gap measure until the next die shrink.

Sounds like to me Intel is taking a page out of AMD's book. Velocity boost will probably be similar to AMD's Max boost... which is a very rare and opportunistic event but technically exist.
