I hate wireless charging it takes forever. If wireless chargers ever started to charge like the turbo chargers now days then I will look into it. But that desk thingy would be great for charging up your remote control for your TV or a flash light you have laying around. Then you have to consider if those items are even wireless compatible.

I have never had a problem with my Nokia Lumia 928 wireless charger. No, wireless is not as fast as being plugged in, but it doesn't take much more time than plugging it in. Seriously, I cannot tell a difference between the 2 other than my phone gets warmer. I believe it depends on the manufacturer of the devices.

The remote control or video game console gamepad would be an exceptional idea! Someone would have to come up with a "universal" wireless charging battery for every type of device and then a cover to go onto those devices.
It's usually not the "wireless compatibility." It's usually the batteries and cover material types. The ATT Nokia phones have Qi wireless charging built in, but the cover material of the phone prevents Qi charging to be used. ATT blocks this because they are in contract (or something) with a different type of wireless charging. In order to make the ATT Nokia phones to work with Qi wireless charging, you replace your current back cover with one you purchase from Nokia.

Something like this will have to be made to replace 2 AA batteries.

    Heatware
    i7 860, EVGA P55 SLI, EVGA GTX 660 Ti SC+ 3GB, Win 10 Pro 64-Bit, Crucial 240GB SSD, WD 500gig Caviar Black, Corsair Vengence 2x4gigs

I think the tech only makes sense if it suits the user's habits. It's going to have to be for the person who is used to sitting his phone on a desk or table, not keeping it 24/7 in his pocket. It's obvious some people's habits would make this sort of thing pretty useless.

More and more phone manufacturers are also coming out with 'fast charging' phones. The Samsung Galaxy S6 for example will get four hours usage with just a 10 minute charge.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

The other issue with any wireless charging is that is must come out of your hand and stop being used to be charged. Many people never take their phone out of their hand and almost never stop using it. Anyone who compartmentalizes (actually puts the phone down and does something else) will not mind either way of charging, even if wireless takes a bit longer.

I think this is a great idea.

Am I the only one who thinks that a giant + in the middle of a table just looks hideous?  Not to mention I hate walking through Ikea.  It's like a maze that takes you forever to get through.

Interesting but I agree it is for a niche market. For the layout in Ikea, I have only gone once but it felt like it was designed by a game designer that does first-person-shooters myself. I felt I was in a Doom level the entire time.
