I’m new to the world of PC building and gaming. I wanted to build one myself but this seems like the only way I can guarantee a GPU. Here’s the prebuilt that I ordered in May. I combined tips from two local pc builders. I went with the cheapest RAM option to keep costs down and I plan on switching them out for 32gb 3600mhz CL16 sticks. Also, I plan on adding an additional HDD. Any suggestions for potential improvements are welcome.

Here are the specs.
Case
Phanteks Eclipse P500A DRGB High Air-Flow ATX Mid-Tower Gaming Case + 3X 140mm SK140 ARGB Fans

CPU
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8GHz

Motherboard
ASUS TUF X570-PLUS GAMING (Wi-Fi) ATX w/ RGB, Realtek LAN, 2 PCIe x16, 2 PCIe x1, 8 SATA3, 2 M.2 SATA/PCIe

GPU
GeForce RTX™ 3070 8GB GDDR6 (Ampere) [VR Ready (I have no idea which brand since I didn’t get to choose)

Cooler
EVGA CLC 280mm RGB CPU Water Cooler System w/ Copper Cold Plate (2 x Standard 140MM Fans)

HDD
250GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO (PCIe Gen4) NVMe M.2 SSD

Ram
8GB (8GBx1) DDR4/3000MHz Memory

You can easily upgrade your RAM. For this kind of machine, I would look for 16-32GB 3400mhz + RAM also, depends on your budget. Also, I see you have only 250GB SSD. Try to get another one M.2 or SATA SSD if it's too pricy for you you can look up for 7200rpm HHD. And you always can improve your cooling :)

That's really not a bad setup at all (after you swap your RAM and get a bigger SSD as you said). I had an EVGA CLC280 (non-RGB) for about 5 years and it worked great. I had it on an overclocked 5820k OC'd to 4.2GHz (3.33GHz stock) all-core and for the last 18 months of that computer running, it was doing [link=mailto:F@H]F@H[/link] 24/7. I kept only about a 60% load on the CPU for that as I wanted to keep the temps down a little for 24/7 running, but with that, it kept it at 58-62°C depending on the room-temp.

There's nothing wrong with the cooler now, but I upgraded my computer, needed something bigger and after 5 years, I didn't think it would be a good idea to re-sell that cooler used. I usually aim for replacement after 5 years with an AIO.

The only thing you can do to add to the cooler's capability (which I did after a couple years) is to make it push/pull by adding two more 140mm fans to the other side. You'll just want to make sure the Motherboard is running all 4 fans about the same speed (which is easy to do).

They already said they were updating the RAM. As for the PSU, I know the RMx series is quite good. Is the RM series not as good? I think the 750W is probably plenty for a 3070. If he had a 3090 I'd agree with you

Any recommendations on particular fan brands?

I don't plan on getting a 3090. I think it would be a bit overkill for some gaming and video editing work. Plus, it would've added an additional $1660 to the cost of the build.

I am a big fan (no pun intended) of Be Quiet! fans, but I don't really go in for RGB on everything. For me, they have a really good balance of performance while being very quiet. If you are into RGB, the ML120 fans are pretty good and EKWB's Vardar fans are really good.

You should go for a 512/500 GB for your M.2 drive for the OS & games 256GB is small ..... even if you add a drive for other "library" files

the price should be small for the twice the capacity

It was suggested to me to have just the OS on the M.2 drive and put everything else on other drives. Any suggestion on any particular drives I should get?

The prices on that particular speed of ram for 32gb is a bit on the high side for me. I'll be doing video editing as well.

More fans, better air cooler like Noctua ones, or liquid cooler for CPU. Liquid cool GPU and oc it.

Arctic P line is not bad either, not as good as Noctua, but pretty close and these are not in the same price point so hard to compare one to one. I went with 2xP14 + 3xP12 for O11 Dynamic mini. All black build with minimal RGB. There is few good videos on Youtube about optimum number of fans needed, but as most things if depends on cases and components used. Sometimes even less is better  but trial & error is what makes it fun, so enjoy building it.

P.S. I wouldn't worry about the PSU either. Will be running a 3070ti (I hope) on a 650W SFX-L PSU and already confirmed by many that is should fine.

Add another stick of ram. For a prebuilt, at least your PSU is sufficient. Usually not the case

Don't forget to enable XMP when you upgrade the memory.

Theoretically you could OC the ram manually as well after getting the new sticks, but it would require a lot of overnight stress testing and it would be quite tedious.

Honestly since you said you're already upgrading your RAM and adding another HD, your rig looks like it's gonna be really good! Only thing I'd consider is adding an exhaust fan at the back of your machine, since the 3 that are included are front intakes. The P500A's a great case though, so it's not absolutely necessary, but if you're gonna go RGB to begin with, it doesn't hurt having additional internal RGB

Add another stick of ram. For a prebuilt, at least your PSU is sufficient. Usually not the case

I plan on switching them out for 32gb 3600mhz CL16 sticks.

Don't forget to enable XMP when you upgrade the memory.

Forgive the newbie question but how do I go about doing this? This is a new world to me. Are there any materials I should be reading to get a better understanding?

Theoretically you could OC the ram manually as well after getting the new sticks, but it would require a lot of overnight stress testing and it would be quite tedious.

I would have no clue how to do that in the first place. I'm so new to this.

RAM would be the easy and obvious one.  A nice big NVMe SSD too!

That's good advice. Thank you. I want this thing to remain as cool as possible.
