I have bought a new gtx 970 card and it would have this issue. It would insta shutdown (and reboot) my computer after 5 minutes to 1 hour of game-play (some games did not crash whatsoever). I have already RMA'd the card for the exact same issue and received a new one, but the new card still has the same issue. I've went through everything from clean re-installing my graphic drivers, checking my memory, checking my psu for blown out capacitors, and many other things. My question is: Should i RMA the card again? i'm thinking since the issue is exactly the same as before, and as my previous RMA was successful that means my hardware is faulty. If you are wondering i have stress tested both my CPU and GPU for temperature and they both have performed well with temperatures never going too high. (CPU going to 70 degrees after 1 hour of above 100% performance, GPU never hitting above 80 at 100 percent)
Some basic specs:

PSU: xion 700 watt
Gpu: old : gtx 560             new(card in question): gtx 970 ftw
cpu: i7-2600k 3.4ghz
Memory: 2x4gb ddr3 Ram
Motherboard: Asrock P67 Pro3 se

Since you are seeing the same issue across multiple cards, likely the issue will be another component. Since your temperatures seem fine, it sounds like your issue may be power related. If possible, try testing the card in another system, or testing your system with another power supply.

Could be bad RAM or PSU dying.

*update* i've reformated my computer due to other issues, and the nature of the gtx problem has changed a little. My display dissapears but my computer remains on for a 10-30 seconds after the display is lost before it attempts to automatically restart. I will test the card with another computer within the week and update then. (my old card does not have this issue, and i am currently using it)

The psu you are using is a very cheaply built and causing you all the issues, best to turf it as soon as possible and get a reliable psu such as antec, corsair, thermaltake.

I just bought a GTX970 ACX2.0 and am having similar issues. While playing Ultra Street Fighter 4, a simple and non-demanding game, I will sometimes loose video signal while in a match and regain it after a couple of seconds. I know it's loosing signal because the screen goes black and the monitor message pops up. I've currently stress tested my CPU with Intel Burn test for 10 passes to see if it was an unstable overclock but all is good. I will try and diagnose each ram stick with memtest to see if I have dying RAM.

I previously had a GTX 550Ti and it was running fine, though that may not be as power hungry as the GTX970.

    *Edit*
Forgot to write that I have an OCZ ZT 750w Modular and it should be more than enough for my setup.
