Is it usually more cost effective to buy a hybrid kit vs a pre assembled card such as the msi seahawk (or whatever the evga equivalent is)? As it stands I've already paid 725 after taxes for this, factor in the 160 for the hybrid and that's $885 for the user serviced hybrid card.

you also get more later when you sell it. a hybrid might go for like $25 - $40 more then a standard. but if you put a card back to stock and sell the hybrid kit separately you will get like 60+ for the hybrid kit. sometimes more since they stop producing them after a while.

just thought i would share this thread: https://forums.evga.com/1080-Hybrid-Coller-will-it-fit-on-the-1080TI-FE-m2623897-p2.aspx#2642663

i ended up finding the 1080 hybrid kit for $100 with a free game. i figured it was worth it to buy and mod. you can get it to fit a 1080ti. it took me about 3.5 hours. i had to tear down the 1080ti. then the mid plate of the 1080 hybrid. then it was a lot of cutting and measuring back and forth until it was flush. i shared some tips in that other thread.

Hate to say it but the price gouging on that cooler completely burned me ... so just pulled the trigger on an MSI 1080 ti "Seahawk X" at Newegg (it's in and out of stock, almost daily) ... $800 shipped and no tax man ... which makes more sense to me than paying $700+ for a Founders and then an additional $160+ on top of that just for the price inflated EVGA cooler ... love the EVGA brand but this time had to opt out ...

DeskTop: 8086K@5.4ghz / Maximus X Code Z370 / AW3821DW 38" / LG C1 48" / EVGA 3080 ti / 2TB WD m.2 / 2TB Evo 970
LaPTop: Area 51m R2 / mod'd Giryriz cooler / 3TB m.2 / 32gb DDR4 / 2070 Super

Hi guys, I just want to ask one question
I know that the custom liquid system are better but I'm very exited about this hybrid cooler, and I want to try one of them
But before I wanted to know one thing, the temperatures of VRAM and the power are ok? Because someone tells me that those hybrid kit cooling only the gpu die and not vram etc
Can someone tell me something about it?
Thank you and sorry for my English
The 1080 Ti FE stock is too loud for me :D

Watch this video. The official hybrid kit works just the same. the VRMs get cooled the same either way.

I've purchased one of the hybrid coolers and mount it yesterday. The temps are really low. 20 celcius at idle and 40 during game play where earlier the temps ware going up to 80 degrees. The vram is being cooled by the air cooler same as in FE original cooler.

you are correct. this hybrid kit only cools the gpu. but the kit still has a fan on the card like a stock card. so what happens is you can open up software like msi afterburner and set the fan to stay at 25% (or any % that you find acceptable as far as how audible it is). this means the vram is still being cooled by the fan on the card. and the gpu is being controlled by the fan on the radiator.

you cannot control the speed of the fan on the radiator. unless, you decide to plug the radiator fan into your motherboard header. i do this. so i can leave the fan on low during most the time, then i set it to max when im about to game. some people just plug it into the rest of the hybrid kit, how its supposed to be plugged in and they let the card auto control the fan. up to you.

going with an after market water cooling kit would be awesome. the plates to cool the vram and gpu all together. but those kits are A LOT more expensive and have to be maintained at least yearly (drained, cleaned and re filled).

i have had all in one hybrid kits for a few years now. i wont go back to air cooling.

Time to sell my FE Ti.

My BH pre order just disappeared. I went to check order status and it is no longer there. Of course it's Saturday and they apparently keep bankers hours. They charged me for the Pre-Order. Looks like this kit is going to impossible to get. I think I might want to send my Ti superclocks back because I want a hybrid but EVGA doesn't want me to have one!

Phew It came back. I did refresh a few times. I ordered as a guest so I cant log in. I tried the check order status link from the original email and that was glitching too. I was about to freak out. I have my Ti Sc's but they are loud and throttle down. I need performance but I'm not paying 600 bucks for a custom loop!

It's just because the pump isn't variable and constantly at 100%, pretty irritating sound when idle.

20 degress idle ? you live in north pole or what ?
(ambient temp ?)

Totally believable because that's what I was gaming at last night... I've actually hit 19C at idle... not the north pole but in Seattle metro with an ambient temp in the mid 60's.  That's today... not January.  Check our 10 day forecast... highs in the 50's... :)

My experiences with the hybrid cooler were the same...

I went from mid 80's with the stock FE blower to this.  Here's 43C after 33 minutes of stress testing.... gaming is the same... low to mid 40's playing in 4k ultra.

The hybrid cooler is worth it... LOL

We are quickly moving towards the warmish months here in Charlotte, NC and before long it will be the summers that we are notorious for (and I am dreading as I am a cold weather guy).  My PC is pumping crazy heat into the room since i moved up to the GTX 1080 TI FE (was running a 970 and then 1070 prior which I stepped up to the 1080 TI).

I NEED this cooler in my life SOON lol.  MAKE MORE EVGA! What's that, limited supply?  Price gouging?  I don't care, "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY".

I bought 1080 EVGA FE + 1080 Hybrid Cooler from EVGA. Any suggestion on what to do to make the shroud fit? I know the 8 pin power connection is not the only thing to dremel / file out.

there are a few spots you have to cut out. and 1 spot you have to shave down.

1) cut the side (for 2nd PCIE)
2) cut out an area for the R22 chip at top of board
3) cut out some space for the few chips towards the front of the board near the ports
4) shave down the mid plate where the caps are. only half the caps touch the plate, but i shaved until a hole started to open through the plate (better safe then sorry).

these are the areas you will cut out:
http://i.imgur.com/kBBtgLV.jpg

i did the pcie and R22 chip first. i then did the shaving of the cap area. once the back sit flush i did the front of the card.

to begin with, you are modding the mid plate that comes with the hybrid kit, not the stock mid plate (which is nice in case you ever want/need to put the stock card back together.

so you want to break down the stock card and remove its mid plate. then i placed the hybrid kits midplate on top of it. this allowed me to roughly trace what i needed to cut for the chips near the front of the card.

also, i removed the on board fan from the mid plate before starting, it made the card easier to work with. i probably went through like 3 grinding/sanding dremel bits and like 2 cutting discs. i am not sure if i was using the right ones for metal. i just used what i had.

let me know if you have questions.
