I'm going to need everything, cpu block for my 1155 2600k, gpu block780Ti SC, tubing, pump, fittings, etc. I don't even know where to start looking. Keep in mind I will need in the future, support for a 2nd rig to be added to the setup as well. The pictures below is the desk I actually have and these are samples of other peoples builds. So please, assist me on creating something nice! As I'm a total water noob.

<>List of parts at the bottom of this post<>

Wish I was able to get the EK/Red Harbinger cpu block :( sold out like hot cakes long time ago. It looks so nice...

Theme is black/blue. I'm looking for the best parts so shoot me what you got for ideas for my setup. I don't know where to start or whom to get my stuff from. But it appears EK is the favored one? My H100i isn't favored in my desk(Yes the Red Harbinger Cross Desk) setup and its basically collecting hot air now but its still managing with ease over air cooling anyways.

I'm tryin to make this as nice as possible!

Other peeps setups

The case I have is what's above, the desk.

Sneak peak, but not really trying to show much. Alot of the desk at the moment is half effort* just to get it back up and running again. Besides I'm in dire need of those cable extensions too.

So do you think a thick 360 could fit in there? I'd go for a dual thick 360 rad setup if you could.

Re: Looking for watercooling parts now :) 2014/04/01 02:05:29 (permalink)
I'm pretty sure I could, the backside bay area is about 7-8in of space I think. I think the only conflict of interest is the psu bracket, but I can remove that. Only thing I need to worry about is the length of the psu cables.

Is it like the rads on the last pic I posted on my OP? Or is it slightly less thicker than that?
    or something like this? http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14317/ex-rad-313/EK_Ultimate_Performance_CoolStream_480_XTX_Series_Liquid_Cooling_Radiator_EK-CoolStream_RAD_XTX_480_.html

The backside of the desk has (2), x4 fan slots, so I can mount a quad size rad. But probably not since I want to squeeze in the psu where it needs to be. But something in this size would accommodate two rigs? >:)

Keep the ideas coming :) I'm more than happy to look around and save up for what is a must have to get this setup done right!

Frozen CPU was a pleasure to work with, 99% of the components for my water cooling setup came from them. Only issue I had was an item I ordered Mark was unable to locate in his inventory but he upgraded me for free. Absolute pleasure to deal with, very quick to answer emails and help with part selection.

PSU extensions came in today, got the Silverstone ones and they look really nice. Have a few other cables coming in this week along with more Cougar fans.

Really need to figure out the water setup though. Should be able to complete what I need by next month.. hopefully. Can't run this on air too long lol, h100i is taking in nothing but hot air but still works like a champ keeping it under 52c.

Big thanks to EVGATech_DaveB and Xantec, helpin me finding a good fan controller. Love the Lamptron FC5-v3! Definitely a nice color to it, not too bright at all and just right. Now I need temp probes for it :P Any recommendations?

I'll post some pics soon, I promise! xP

There are several temp probes on frozen cpu  http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g30/c101/s457/list/p1/Liquid_Cooling-Fittings-Accessories-Flow_Temp_Meters-Page1.html  I have a couple of Koolance ones and they work just fine.

I have some Bitspower probes that I put in the big square blocks to it wouldn't impede coolant flow (much).  Look good, work great.

Glad you like the FC5v3, I love it, just a great controller.

    So how bout this lineup?

    EK Supremacy CPU Block

780Ti Block - Not sure the entire difference is with the first two? Assuming these fit a 03G-P4-2884-KR, I'm leaning toward Nickel blocks. I'd get the evga block if it was in stock  Just to EVGA bling out the desk and what not. Maybe EVGA has something I can put in here to show off ;P You know what would be cool though? If they wanted my desk at their booth at PAX lol. But its far from finished. One could dream lol. Would love to have a pair of NOVA PSU's and possibly a x79 Dark as the second mobo inside.

Size doesn't matter as long as fittings and tubing sizes are the same. Everything looks good but I prefer the clear block top with clear tubing and colored coolant.

Some people won't mix nickel and copper blocks in the same system....just saying.
BTW, my lines are 1/2" inner, 3/4" outer so you can get a reference.

Yea I know the EVGA block is copper, I wouldn't mix the two types. It would be nice if I could snag 2 of em for looks. Lols Dave tell Rob I need some haha get my desk/rig all in EVGA swag :P

But yea, wish I could get a experienced hand to assist. As I never done liquid cooling.

Yeah but I usually run all my pumps at full speed and it depends on the wattage of your pump.  I power mine by using a 3 or 4pin to molex adapter and plug straight into my PSU.

I just checked the pump again, 20w I believe. So I guess I can connect it to my controller. I'm still gonna use full power to it anyways. Oh is there a water temp probe too that I can add?

I just checked the pump again, 20w I believe. So I guess I can connect it to my controller. I'm still gonna use full power to it anyways. Oh is there a water temp probe too that I can add?

You don't need a water temperature probe..  No need to worry about the water temps to be honest.

Oh its just to fill in the blanks on my controller really. 2 channels unused at the moment.

I wonder what would my loop would look like.. Also I haven't picked a radiator yet. Question is to use a quad radiator or not and how much space would I have left with push pull config and psu sitting next to it.
Any one ever tried adding two rigs to one radiator before? :P

2 rigs one rad, not advised, unless you are talking a Mo-Ra3 or a 480/560 Monsta.

For your pump choice, I would go with a different top, I would use a larger res top, imho it makes things easier.  Also, I would just run the pump off of molex, let it run WOT and never think about it again.  Remember though, that pump is positive displacement, and it will pass air just as easy as water, so keep an eye when you are bleeding the loop, I had a pump like that before, they are more resilient, BUT, unlike the centrifugal (MCP655) they don't howl and make terrible noises when air gets caught, they just pass it through, so you make take longer to bleed the loop.

As far as temp probes go, they can be handy, if you watch your controller, they can be a handy early warning system, also if you see (via OSD) a component get hot, if you run multiple probes you can see by the temps where the problem is arising at in the loop.  Are they necessary, of course not, are they handy, they can be, are they a cool option for a customer build, HECK YEAH!  Also, they are great for people like myself who tend to be a little OCD about numbers and monitors  :)

As for radiator recommendation, I know I sound like a broken record, but here are my suggestions:
If you have severe space limitations, Swiftech rads perform great compared to most other super thin rads, and their fin design makes quieter operation than say BI Stealth.
Best bang for the buck are the thicker end XSPC rads.
If you are looking for a quieter solution than the XSPC, BI SR1, its top of the food chain for dead silent operation.
If you are wanting better cooling at the cost of extra noise, BI GTX Extreme, they require fans that are a bit noisier, but they are KILLER.
Both the SR1 and GTX Extreme are pricier than the XSPC's.
Or for crazy huge, Mo-Ra3, which will cost a small fortune in good fans as you want minimum 9 120s and preferably 18.  Or the Monsta, which will be noisier as you need some SERIOUS fans, very high pressure to make them worth while, both options here are pricier and VERY large and will NOT fit inside most standard cases.

Those size rads will fit easily. I just need to know how much space I have with the fans + psu sitting near it. I have about 7" clearance in the back side bay of the desk.

I'll do some more looking with your suggestions though. And that is a great idea with all the water temp probes too. Noise isn't too much of a issue since the desk itself dampens alot of the noise. It's already super quite with everything right now, I don't even hear my noisy 560 anymore.

So would you recommend the MCP655 over any other pump out there?

Can someone tell me the real difference is between these two blocks?

    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/22129/ex-blc-1580/EK_GeForce_780_GTX_Ti_VGA_Liquid_Cooling_Block_-_Nickel_EK-FC780_GTX_Ti_-_Nickel.html

Or is the second one not ment for the 780Ti? Only the 780Ti Classy? If thats the case I need to jump on the gun on the first one before they sell out.

Also I need a follow up on the pump too, I kinda want one for the looks as previously listed but if the MCP655 is gonna be less of a hassle running stuff. Then by all means. Or give me a list of the best water pumps out there for me to choose from.

I'm pretty set on the EK Supremacy CPU Block, just need to decide on clear or blue top. http://www.ekwb.com/shop/blocks/cpu-blocks/supremacy/ek-supremacy-clean-csq-nickel.html

Re: Looking for watercooling parts now :) 2014/04/13 14:23:49 (permalink)
Overall pretty good.  For the rad, EK isn't my top pic, but they are pretty good.
Save yourself the 20$ on the pump and get a 655-B, no need for the variable, as it is a twist dial, and mostly they are turned up and left there.
As for tubing, I recommend 1/2x3/4 Tygon or Primochill.  I think Tygon is a bit better quality, BUT, Primochill is both a little cheaper as well as has a LOT of nice color options.
As for fittings, I personally go with Barbs and Clamps in most areas as it is cheaper than compression fittings and in the end they both seal equally well, its a visual thing.  Either  way, I tend to use BitsPower fittings in general.  Lamptron has some nice clamps too, work well and look pretty good.

Thanks Dave, I'll look into those some more.

Also I came across these, http://www.frozencpu.com/products/21355/ex-tub-2049/Monsoon_Chain_Gun_Compression_Fitting_-_38ID_x_58OD_-_4_Pack_Blue_CGF-3858-4P-BL.html.
I like the way it looks, but have no clue how to use them and where lol. Appears to be a normal compression fitting?

I found the 655's over at Performance PC for abit cheaper than frozencpu. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=59_201&sort=20a&page=3
And was this the one you were talking about Dave? http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16736/ex-pmp-202/Swiftech_MCP655-B_12v_Water_Pump_w_G14_Thread_Ports_Perfectly_Tapped.html
