I did the SATAIII/6G firmware update and now my 600GB SATA 3 hard drive says "unconfigured" on the marvell boot screen. I can't access the drive. I tried parted magic and it shows up but if I try to zero the drive the machine locks up.  I connected the drive to an intel sata port and the drive is not accessible that way either. Any ideas?

No it's not encrypted it's just fubar! Perhaps I can send it to Western Digital for a warranty replacement.

There pretty good about RMA's.  Go here and fill out the form and get things rolling.

You tried Lifeguard for Windows? I think they have an ISO and linux CD version also, and if that won't... this is their 10K VR 600GB, too? I dont' have that one but I've got a dozen various Raptor and VR models running for years and my primary choice for data (and in RAID).

Try a SATA2 (3GB) port. If it works there, your drive is fine. There have been many ppls having problems with the Marvell SATA 6GB ports.

    Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB.
See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve.

I tried a SATA2 port and no joy there either. I don't know what happened but it's RMA time.

Problem solved...sorta. A friend suggested booting parted magic without the drive connected and then connect it to a sata 2 port. Well, low and behold the drive was magically unlocked! I had to zero the drive but at least I can read and write to it again. Wonders never cease.
