Excellent guide OP! Mine is now rooted although I never saw the penguins Mined the UK version (Advent Tegra Note 7) so maybe that's why I didn't see them. I checked it's rooted becasye I have Super SU installed and when I open the App there's a tick next to Super SU Root Access.

You can also check the root via downloading a root checker from the Android store
