So Nate, I have one of the 4 Way SLI EK blocks, it's one of the first gen ones with a clearance issue for video cards. My dad and I were thinking of trying a router with a carbide bit on it to take the acetal down enough for it to work. Our concern is that too low a speed may break it, but too high and we'll melt it. What would you recommend?

 
I would love to see how you set the machine up.  Perhaps a router table?  routers generally go around 30,000 rpm which is kind of "ludicrous speed".  5K will work great.  If you don't care what the block looks like (deduced by you wanting to use a wood cutting router) then why not just lap the top of the block.  Might come out nicer.  Get a slab of glass, a sheet of sandpaper, throw your favorite movie on and go to work.  MUCH safer then the router idea.
 
Its hard to say how much it costs but there in the thousands.  I paid probably more, but the knowledge gained building the CNC machine from scratch pays more dividends then the machine you just built.
