wow, 1/2" thick on the sides?  You might find it difficult getting card to stick in the slot with the excess of insulation.  I had to rig an alumn bracket to get it to brace it down.

Nate, it's the 3/8 EV foam on each side.  It's a little too thick, so I had to carve out a section so it would fit against the NB heatsink cooler.

@John, yea I know.  Now you...you're out of control my friend, LOL.  No, really, I wish I was doing what you are doing.  It shouldn't be too hard to get off, as there is a layer of eraser below the foam, and a number of coats of plasti-dip below that.  No sticky side of the foam is touching any raw component.

ok, almost there. time to test condensation one more time.  I was going to fire it up on the 780i board, but it won't fit at all, and I don't want to mod it for the 780i, since I'll never use it on that board anyway.  -23.4C now...almost time to turn the pump on.

I just want to make sure.  Tomorrow I get a new shipment of eraser to do the other card.  I might just put the HK 3 on for the weekend....alot of prep still to do.  Been working on this for 2 weeks I think.

Well, all of the exposed areas are gathering frost.

SLI bridge connector

pci-e connector

dvi connector

Do I need to be concerned with this??

Once you put a load on the chiller\cards, some of that should go away.

I would watch it very closely for awhile before being sure that nothing is going to fry your stuff.

WOW Q very impressive
It may be a good idea to put some vaseline on the areas that are getting frosty just to make sure no shorts

The reason they frost is because there is no heat generated.  I would 1st, put some Vaseline in the pci-e slot.  2nd insert card and start benching!!

I never EVER had frost on the DVI connector?? how large is that block of yours??  My HK block has a relatively small footprint on the card

Ah, ok, vaseline.  Thanks Snipe and Nate!

Nate, it's a full block.  It goes the full length of the card with about a 1/2 inch space not covered by the block at the front/dvi connector area.  I covered the end of the block with eraser, shoved shop towels in the open space, covered that area with eraser, then covered with foam.  the cold is still radiating to the dvi's

If I put vaseline "in" the dvi connector, that will be good too, right?  Vaseline in the cpu socket too (I know yes, just want to make sure)?

Re:Get It Colder......2 2010/04/15 06:03:02 (permalink)
Just keep in mind that the eraser is not insulation.  It does not contain any insulating properties, just coats something to help prevent water damage.  But even as good as a job that john did, you can see the stuff is not perfect.  Just be careful.

My HK block doesn't even go near the ribbon cables.  Just sticks out a little bit to get the chips & thats it.  I guess I should be thankful its not such a large block.

Vasline can go anywhere.  John has a good material he says he uses to remove it with ease.  I haven't tried his method yet-but one day i will.

hey guys i know that you can SLI to diff brand Nvidia cards together but can you crossfire 2 different ATI cards together>? the reason i ask is i dont think they sell the reference HIS 5870 card anymore :S (in aus anyway) but i found a brand called amaze that has a reference card. if they dont xfire together can i just flash the amaze card to the HIS bios to make it think they are both the same card>?
