One thing is sure, NVIDIA will not leave TITAN X and GTX980 and R9-390X between them.
Simply because number of people who can't afford TITAN X but want to pay 650-700-750$ for card is huge.
That's 400-500% higher market than for TITAN X.  And lot of them will choose card with full 8GB rather than 4GB or some crippled version of GM200 with 6GB. Advantage of NVIDIA could be GPU performance, advantage of Radeon 2GB more video memory and no space for crippled chips except if they think to launch full after 2 months.
OK NVIDIA first respect people who can afford more expensive cards, but when AMD launch their samples they will look to improve GM200 not to cripple him.

I think we are talking along the same lines in general, but maybe you don't see the potential for a third GM200 in that slot, perhaps at current GTX 980 prices with those GPU prices falling.  In a business sense, I wholly see the need to use the fall off chips in something even if the r390x isn't as strong as people are guessing.  Regardless, our talking points aren't horribly different but merely a different thought process of where it will end.

We will know in the coming weeks.

When is the release date? By the time EVGA sends Amazon a Titan X to fulfill my order from 3 weeks ago the 980 ti should be out. :P

3770K @ 4.5ghz / ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro-M / 16gb DDR1600 Ripjaws / Corsair H100i / Corsair 350D / XB280HK 4k / EVGA GTX 980 soon to be Titan X

I'm going to take a wild guess that they will probably release it between 3 weeks and a month, after AMD's 390's come out

I think AMD will not launch card now,
they will delay R9-390X for 14nm with story similar to... R9-290X 8GB CF is good choice for all gamers.

I tend to disagree. AMD needs money so they need a new card to do that.

That was why I was curious.  i don't think VLada has a Titan X.  I thought he had a 780Ti K|ngp|n or something.

Then it would be odd to have the Titan SC logo in his profile picture and signature, yes?

His modrigs show pictures of an ATI card (that are old pics I assume) and a Kingpin, still an $850 GPU isn't that far off from a $1000 GPU
specs don't say what card he has however.

Wait, what are we talking about again? and why is VLada's GPU relevant?
Oh right, GTX 980 ti.

I'm guessing it'll perform between a GTX 980 and Titan X, and be price accordingly, unless AMD does something surprising that Nvidia will have to react too (most likely in the form of pricing)

I'm not seeing a GTX 980 ti out performing a Titan X, as new as a Titan X is, and as the "top" card, I don't think Nvidia wants to dethrone it just yet, for the fun of it. if something like the 390X outdoes the Titan X, I expect they'll respond in the form of pricing, rather than pulling a more powerful GPU out of the air right away (those things take time to make)

As I stated before, I'll just be glad for all the cards to be out so that we know and everyone can quit speculating (to include myself) and the rumors can begin about the next gen cards... sigh.

I'm going theorize something here.... in a sort, it is a bash to AMD, but realistically, the reason they're taking so long...? They can't get passed the point that TDP point where the gpu sucks so much and power and puts out so much heat... They pretty much made the exact same card, but slapped a bigger chip on their video cards, but are "delaying" the launch because they know so many fans will be in shock... OR... they're waiting for a buyout from Samsung and then Samsung will launch it and get the blame for it.

Samsung will not buy AMD. If they wait on Samsung they could wait 3 years.
Maybe Samsung had idea to enter in desktop before 2 years but now I'm not sure.
And nobody could blame Samsung for nothing at least 2-3 years even if they tomorrow buy AMD.

You don't know that. The only reason AMD's stock even when up some points in % mark is because of the rumors of AMD is being auctioned out. The talks suggest that Samsung will buy AMD, but we don't know that either. However, Samsung already makes processing chips, and what better way than to step foot into the industry and compete with Intel?

I'm sure you and I both know what direction Nvidia will have to go in if Samsung buys out AMD. After all Nvidia uses Samsung chips in their GPUs.

My wallet hurts. I bet these sell out quicker than the Titan X ever did, simply because of the price difference.

No step-up option since I bought it used ($450 total).  I guess I'll wait a few weeks and see how 980ti compare to R9 390x and go from there.  I won't feel too bad if R9 390x and 980Ti are $700 or more!

Remember, step up only becomes available after the Nvidia announcement at a minimum (the rest is up to evga). Nvidia hasn't said anything, so step up is still not an option, yet.

Unless I missed a giant article. The one above is just a news announcement, not official yet.

I would like to NVIDIA win and keep crown, except in one case...
If they cut 100 CUDA Cores on GTX980Ti I will prey god every night to AMD launch card 5% weaker or same as TITAN X.

I wonder if these cards will hit auto-throttle temps as quickly and easily as Titan X. If so, I'll feel slightly better about our recent EVGA GTX980 purchase. :)
