That card was pretty forgetable though.

2016 maybe.

That's really old news that turned out to be completely wrong.  The 980 Ti they speak of turned out to be the Titan X, and the delay to 2016 was wrong since the Titan X got released on 28nm and not 16nm.

2016 maybe.

we really going to link these kinds of articles? Next thing people will post kpopdtars.com links..

980ti would be beneficial to nvidia to release when 390x comes out. We will just have to wait.

I've been out of the game for a bit so this may be a stupid question, but doesn't the 980 already have all its cores unlocked?

I was think 600 would never be true, as the 390 is rumored 700. Then I thought "well AMD has watercooling which will probably increase the price be a bit, and HBM. Maybe Nvidia will be cheaper without the gimmicks"

I don't know if I can wait 5 months or so. If that's the case I might as well wait for Pascal in Q1 2016.

Yes, the 980 is a full GM204 card.

This "980ti" is possibly a full GM200 chip with 1/2 the memory of the Titan X. If the AMD card is something to worry about there could be a possibility of this cut-down card only having less memory. But I don't know if I can believe that until AMD's new cards show up as that is the only thing making Nvidia release more powerful cards instead of things we've seen with the 780 and original Titan(both had slight cuts in core count vs Titan Black/780ti).

I will either find a way, or make one.

If NVIDIA lock only 10 CUDA I will not pay attention on that model at all like not exist.
From other side 6GB is better than to cut CUDA.
But maybe NVIDIA want to launch first weaker card and when AMD launch 10% slower than TITAN X to launch again, as with series 700.
I hate cutting CUDA on cards.
In that case I would prey god to AMD launch better R9-390X than that only to NVIDIA feel sorry because cutting CUDA.

Is look like EK is holding back the Titan X Hydro Copper listed on EVGA site for more there a month as TBD price. If I can't get 4 (limit 1 per household ) by NEXT WEEK I will jump very soon on my first AMD setup.
That's not fanny anymore, I still own registered to EVGA;
4-Way SLI TITAN
4-Way SLI 780Ti KingPin
4-Way SLI 980 KingPin
... and now I have to buy one at the time?

You probably won't get them next week, so no reason to delay jumping ship.

If you want 4 at a time, cintact EVGA directly. Money is money. Ek waterblocks are available (they make the hydrocopper anyway) and are far quicker than waiting for the same Waterblock with the EVGA logo.

Is not about EVGA logo, just don't want to buy another blocks from EK. Start November 2014 on my 980 (Classifiend & KingPin) I use the EK 780Ti KingPin modified blocks.

I will hold the Titan X Hydro Copper for two weeks on benchmarks then send them back for 15% less.

I would like to be on your place because that's not problem at all.
You will order one from EVGA, one from Newegg or two, one or two from Amazon and that's it.
I doubt you will be satisfied with AMD, their stronger setup is almost same as crippled GK110.
He is on market 2.5 years, but I say AMD is close with performance but not better card than crippled TITAN.
Their mid segment graphic card barely win Fermi and at this moment is their top seller card but still is weaker than 7970 GHz Edition, and you doubt with your hardware you will find something interesting with AMD when your 3rd card is stronger than AMD, don't even to talk about 780Ti, 980 or TITAN X.

According to some sights Nvidia will release the 980 TI in July of this year.

http://wccftech.com/nvidi...-980-ti-coming-summer/

Full gm200, $700, and faster than Titan X??...Well,..um...my Titan X still has 12GB VRAM..so there!

You must be doing something really hardcore to utilize 12gb of vram. (No, i'm not trolling here.) Most people have to choose...speed over VRAM, or VRAM over speed? we all know the 980ti is coming out, if not soon (we hope), and most people are (only speculating here) going to choose speed, especially if they decide to use only 1 card. those that SLI.....2 Titans=$2,000. 2 980ti's, $1400, if we get lucky. the 980ti series will be perfect for an individual who wants to take a hit on 4k while the 980's & 970's are not enough, and that 6gb is just perfect. Not to mention, they'll probably get a much higher overclock. (hehe kingpin 980ti )

Hey

6gb is NOT perfect. Last year Shadow of Mordor showed that that 4k used more than 6gb. So if buying a card for you is for the next 6-10months then fine otherwise i would recommend a titan x which i more futureproof with 12gb vram and use a AiO cooler (980 hybrid) to match the ti's speed (IF it ever happens). That would be more wise IMO. Also you've got to have the money:D

There gonna make a 980ti and a 980 metal. I didn't really pay attention to the metal but the TI is expected to be released by NVIDEA next month between 5/16 - 5/26. This is assuming the reports are correct.

You can read more on it here

My point stays. 8gb would've been better even 10gb at this point. with GTA V i use a little over 4.5gb vram. if you have 6gb vram, you're only 1.5gb away from maxing card. So when paying 800$ for a card i think you want it to last so the investment will be " worth it ".

What do you think the GTX 980 metal is?

It is presumed that it is a card that uses the cut down version of the GM200.  So, better than a 980 but not as good as a Titan/Ti and have a metal shroud like the Titan.  They have to do something with those chips if they release the Ti as a Titan with 6GB of RAM.  All speculation at this point, though.

GTX 980 Metal could also be something like the GTX 650 ti boost, a different cooler and higher clock that comes from Nvidia, instead of from companies like EVGA/ASUS/MSI etc. but still the same processor. it also came with twice as much Vram standard... hmm...

There gonna make a 980ti and a 980 metal. I didn't really pay attention to the metal but the TI is expected to be released by NVIDEA next month between 5/16 - 5/26. This is assuming the reports are correct.

You can read more on it here

Then the 980 Ti will be released before or in the same period with Titan X Hydro Copper
Just get a call.. 12G-P4-2999-KR on sale at the end of May? Really?

More than one site (including guru3d and another one that actually sounded informed imo) are claiming 5/16-5/26/15 for the 980 Ti.

What, better than GTX980 but not as Titan X?
They will launch faster card than TITAN X with 6GB with at least 5-10% higher boost.
It's not question Yes or No, NVIDIA must to do that if they don't want to drop price of such card on 500e when AMD launch R9-390X.
What will they do with crippled GM200 6GB if AMD launch 5% weaker card than TITAN X with 8GB memory for 650e and soon price drop on 600e. What than, 980 will cost 500 and GM200 weaker than Radeon 700$. Who will pay for weaker card with less video memory more than faster with more. If AMD make same as last year we can hope only for full GM200 to keep crown of fastest card.
50% stronger card than R9-290X is 10% weaker than TITAN X and NVIDIA really no space for joking with crippled cards, situation is complete opposite, they should drain last percent from GM200 and hope best.

There would still be a Ti.  This card would make use of the GM200 that can't make the full cut.  That would have been the Ti, yes, but rumor says that NVIDIA is being sure to compete heavily with the new AMD card by not gimping it.  It simply adds another segment (the Metal rumor) that could possibly bump up against the r390X with the Titan/Ti taking on the 'NVIDA killing' r390X WCE.  This is all speculation, though.  I will be glad when everything is out and simply becomes benchmarks.  I'm tired of all the guessing by every tech site out there.

One thing is certain in that they aren't going to throw away all of the GM200 'waste' chips.
