You probably want to qualify that statement with the fact that you are probably doing a bit more than simply playing with your fan profiles... Chiller?  LN2?

4790K / 32GB G.Skill Trident X DDR3 / ASUS Z97-A / Titan X (Pascal) / Samsung 850 Pro / Corsair 800D / Rift + Touch / Vive / and just a wee bit of water cooling...

Because achieving 1600Mhz on a GTX 980Ti Maxwell core AND having it remain stable there is pretty much unheard of without some very hardcore cooling.  (I've never seen one go that high and remain stable on air.)

How about a pic of your rig and a link to a fire strike bench result?

Let me stop before this gets all out of hand.
I said it would run, I never said anything of the sort about it being stable or that it was bench worthy. Still working on what it will do with the stock voltage first.
My rig is in the mods rid section if you want a picture of it. just subtract 4 Titan X's from it and add a 980 TI.

Your version of stable and mine are two entirely different things. I only want to be stable to bench, not for bragging or look at me statistics for gaming since no one cares what a persons over clock is if your KD is .049.   Once im done, everything goes back to stock...

Hey, no worries!  I just define "it's able to run" as actually using your card...  E.G. To run something like a graphics intensive game or a graphics benchmark and not lock up or crash.  And I call B.S. in that my version of stable is actually identical to yours - that it makes it through a graphics related benchmark.  I can set my cards using Precision X to 1600/4100 as well... but I can't then run anything that uses them at that setting!   I was just curious if you had scored some sort of magical/golden card is all.

Nice!  But that's not quite 1600/4100...  close though!

Ok, color me impressed!  Very Nice!  First Maxwell card I've seen do that on just air.

Ill give you the simple answer....

Half vbios and half driver. And that was on windows 7. It will need some more tinkering around with to make it actually pull decent numbers.

3dmark doesn't always show the correct clock speeds.

Depends on how you mod the vbios to get it to show the right clocks.

Re: GTX 980 TI BIOS/VOLTAGE HACK 2016/03/10 08:01:14 (permalink)
Hey guys!

I'm new to these forums so forgive any ignorant questions or mistakes I may transgress you with.

I'm definitely very new to GPU BIOS modding but have done some reading here and there and did a bit of tweaking myself on my two reference model 970's BIOS, even getting higher than normal overclocks with some stability. But when it came to making adjustments to TDP limit, I never quite understood what I was doing; I was just comparing my stock BIOS to the changes I was targeting. There are multiple fields regarding TDP in the BIOS editor and I have a hard time determining which ones directly affect my card's limit.

First, I'll briefly explain what I'd like to achieve and then I'll ask some advice or guidance. I've had two reference 970's that I've actually just sold to someone because I found a refurbished 980 Ti SC+ on Amazon for $379 (no tax, NO LIE!!!! Still not sure how I managed this). Anyways, I'd like to get the most out of this 980 Ti SC+, even though it already offers quite a bit out of the box. Instead of manually setting my highest achievable clock speeds statically in the BIOS, my goal is to still be able to make changes on the fly using Afterburner or PrecisionX as needed for what I'm doing at the time since it's so quick and simple instead of having to flash BIOS every time I want to make changes, but to increase the available TDP for when I need more than average overclocks. So, for example, I'm fine with it running at the SC+ factory speeds without changes in PrecisionX, but when I overclock I want to be able to add my clock and memory offsets on the fly with PrecisionX and be able to achieve a higher power target than 106% (I believe 125% was the limit on my 970's). So to reiterate once more, I want modify my BIOS ONLY to increase my power limit without changes to frequency, so that I can handle the clock speeds all with an application like PrecisionX, just having a higher power limit to work with.

So does anyone have any advice for exactly what fields on Maxwell BIOS editor I want to edit and what I want to leave alone for just increasing my power limit to the max with one BIOS flash and then being able to manage everything from PrecisionX thereafter? I'm comfortable enough taking my own stock BIOS as the reference and editing the needed fields and flashing. I just would like some guidance from some of you guys who CLEARLY know what you're doing. Anyone who would offer to make these changes for me and upload a BIOS would be appreciated, and I'd be willing to compensate for such kindness, but I want to know exactly what was changed and understand the process, rather than just having someone do it for me.

I look forward to hearing what any of you have to say!

Thank you very much! Now are these the stock values? Or are these your values/your recommended values? I'm going to have the 980 Ti SC+ ACX 2.0 so I'd be more than willing to hear just your recommended values and use those for making the maximum power limit available. Also, I'm not really sure at ALL how to go about increasing the PCIe power or PSU rails. It's not something I know much about and while I know how much relatively that I want to increase my power limit, I wouldn't know how to adjust these other values along with the limit. Any standards or advice for calculating this?

Nope, not the stock values. You could use those values if you want. For your card I would recommend...

TDP:
25000
300000
300000

PCIe:
10000
75000
75000

PSU PEG 1:
12000
200000
240000

PSU PEG 2:
12000
250000
300000

Power Limit:
150000
250000
300000

Perfect! So from what I can tell, this is allowing me an approximate 300W TDP yes? That's pretty solid; more than I could truly need so if I can use that much as needed, but just make adjustments to my clock speed when desired through PrecisionX, then that would be awesome. I look forward to trying this. I should be getting the card early next week. I did buy a 144Hz G-SYNC monitor I'm picking up today though! SO overclocking probably just got a LOT less critical..... Still gonna do it though lol

100000
250000
300000

Yes, 300w TDP. Have fun.

Final question; since I'm altering a "percentage" for power limit, will my card just draw more power when the clock demands it all the way up to that point, or will the "power target" field in apps like Precision now be increased from the usual 106% to a higher number that I can change as needed?

It will now be increased to 120% from 106% and you can change it as needed. Also power limit needs to be...

Power Limit:
150000
250000
300000

Not 100000 on the first one.

What OC values would you recommend for a EVGA 980 Ti Classified?

When you say OC values do you mean TDP, PCIe, PSU PEG 1, PSU PEG 2, & Power Limit power table values for the 980 ti classified?
