MoorishBrutha Finally after seeing the specs of this card, I am well-content with my purchase of the 980 Classified on NewEgg which I got for $640. The Kingpin is basically the same as the Classified just with a black-plate and single-slot ports configuration. If I didn't buy this Classified last week for $640 price, I still probably wouldn't buy the Kingpin, even though it has a single-slot ports configuration, because it doesn't have Displayport, only miniDisplayports which have a smaller bandwidth. The only thing I like about this KPE is that it has a backplate and single-slot ports configuration. $750 is a good price though, definitely better than pricing between 780TI classified and the KPE which I actually bought from EVGA directly.
it is not the same! Metal cooler, memory and MOSFET cooling plate, backplate. Higher clock (TBA) and some other overclocking stuff. :) Here in Sweden the classified cost the same as the kingpin :) so for me it was a no brainer.

Vlada011 My monitor still work only over DVI. And when will EKWB to launch that block, it's not fair, Strix, WF3 are long time on their site. But OK and for Matrix still not waterblock, they have excuse.
The Matrix isn't ready yet and is delayed so we can work on the KPE block with EVGA. Sometime i'm not sure if people realize how a waterblock is created. This is not something that is done over a weekend. If we were to release a block fast with design errors, people would flame us for delivering a crappy product and when we take the time to make a block that will work well on the card then we are flamed for taking too long to release it.

Keep in mind that things can't happen fast enough for some people no matter how fast they happen. Do not sacrifice your quality for anything. I have never been anything but as happy as possible with EK blocks because of their quality, and that is why I will only buy EK. It would be a shame for that to be sacrificed for a few impatient people. It sounds like you have your priorities in line.

OK Thanks I was afraid you will forget block for KP Classified, owners of that model deserve blocks more than anybody else.

Success, I’ve used my time decoder ring to better understand the pre-order epoch tick advantage for registered EVGA owners very nice touch, but where does that leave the other (seemingly abandoned) segment of the enthusiast populace at large moving away from brand A, never impressed with brand G or Z and haven’t yet had the undeniable pleasure of owning an EVGA graphics card? OR When can a low brow dolt like me buy one?

AndreTM...I'm still waiting for the regular Classified waterblock from EK... Personally, I think EVGA cards deserve a much better waterblocks than EK's. Besides that, the only thing that has been keeping me away from upgrading my 680's Classified to the 780/980 series is the horrible ACX-style cooling, but now that this 980 KingPin has been released maybe I'll consider getting two of these even if I don't slap a waterblocks to them. They will be inside my no-windows case anyways.

No way bud... and it also comes down to if you will be running these with a modded bios or stay with the factory bios's because modded bios's can pull a lot more wattage. I personally would not run 2 of these in SLI with anything but a high quality 1200w or higher PS. Some people would just get by with the bare minimum in wattage but that is never a good idea. You should have atleast 20% headroom above what your rig pulls. Just my 2 cents :)

I would feel like that would be too close to the limit for comfort… You shouldn't be using more than ~80-90% of your PSU anyway, for optimal efficiency… You *should* be fine, but I would recommend at least a 1000W for that, if Platinum, or 1200W if Gold. :) EDIT FOR SCIENCE:- Reference GTX 980 is rated at 165W. - According to the specs, the K|NGP|N edition will allow up to 128% TDP over reference (~211W) - Assuming your CPU will eat up ~130W (higher end), up to 160W with OC - Hard drives and SSDs another 100W or so (unlikely to even be that much) - Accessories and fans another 50W (also unlikely to be that much) - That totals ~730W So, again, that's assuming optimal efficiency at 860W… So… ya… 1000W on a Platinum efficiency PSU, and 1200W+ on a Gold efficiency one for comfort (hint: EVGA's GoldNOVA G2 1200W would do just fine :P).

WhiteDragon_Could you please explain why you have a bad opinion of EK WB's? It's not that my opinion is straight "bad" against EK, I'm just being objective and realistic: I've been into watercooling since the very start when it was merely a homemade DIY method (back in the 90's), and nowadays EK is somewhat similar in circumstances to Corsair, those brands are more consequence of marketing than quality itself. I would say EK is just an "average" brand, but not "excellent", I think they are "good" only at GPU blocks, but the rest of their catalogue lacks a little bit of performance. Take for instance Aquacomputer, it is a "less" known brand but its quality is by far superior to EK.

I only want a legitimate successor to the *90 series of cards, which we have not seen since the 690--which I did not buy because I had a 590 classified. I am a believer in the one slot solution. I have not been able to pull the trigger on a new card since my 590 because--for the sake of gaming on my PC, plain and simple--nothing, released to date, is worth the price. Tell me, please, if I am misguided, delusional or, maybe, just maybe, correct. I do regret not buying a 690. It is just that I expected a dual card "790", which never came to be. Am I wrong? Am I really that wrong? I purchased a $1000 gift card almost 2 years ago, intending to use it on the next dual card-single slot solution from NVidia. I feel foolish for waiting, but compared to my 590 classified the 980 in any of its iterations is not really--not really worth the money.

I have not used anything from Aquacomputer as of yet, however after watching a short build video from singularity. I had planned on using the Aquero 5 and will probably be using a couple of there radiators and a few other parts also. However, still waiting for the EK blocks at this time. FAQQ. When will pre-orders begin shipping? A. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin shipping the week of February 19th, 2015.
I wonder if this applies to EU customers too?

I would like to ask if you guys are selling the 980 KP at a later date. I am buying one and I would like to buy a second one but I only qualify for 1.

Are these the same style +25mv dip switches that were introduced on the 780Ti K|ngp|n? What other changes can we expect to see as well? I circled the obvious things in blue and the dip switches in red. looking at the front of the cards, it looks as if some of the components on the K|ngp|n were also moved to the back, as well as different capacitors used as well. Can't wait to see the actual break down of these cards as well. Serious note for EVGA tech team, and even for the ones prepared to freeze these cards, in the future, there should be an option for the card to come pre-coated for the ones that are going to abuse it as intended. I know a lot of guys take the time to cover the card with fingernail polish or like substance to keep the liquids out of the important areas, so why not precoat it?

Your not delaying the 980 classy blocks for the kingpins are you? That just would not be fair , ill stomp my feet and whine!
Nope the last delay of the classy was more of a material availability than a design delay.

WhiteDragon_No way bud... and it also comes down to if you will be running these with a modded bios or stay with the factory bios's because modded bios's can pull a lot more wattage. I personally would not run 2 of these in SLI with anything but a high quality 1200w or higher PS. Some people would just get by with the bare minimum in wattage but that is never a good idea. You should have atleast 20% headroom above what your rig pulls. Just my 2 cents :) I see! thanks for the reply! I wonder when the modded bios will be released! :D levifigI would feel like that would be too close to the limit for comfort… You shouldn't be using more than ~80-90% of your PSU anyway, for optimal efficiency… You *should* be fine, but I would recommend at least a 1000W for that, if Platinum, or 1200W if Gold. :) EDIT FOR SCIENCE: - Reference GTX 980 is rated at 165W. - According to the specs, the K|NGP|N edition will allow up to 128% TDP over reference (~211W) - Assuming your CPU will eat up ~130W (higher end), up to 160W with OC - Hard drives and SSDs another 100W or so (unlikely to even be that much) - Accessories and fans another 50W (also unlikely to be that much) - That totals ~730W So, again, that's assuming optimal efficiency at 860W… So… ya… 1000W on a Platinum efficiency PSU, and 1200W+ on a Gold efficiency one for comfort (hint: EVGA's GoldNOVA G2 1200W would do just fine :P).
thanks for the long informatic post! :D MortyI wonder if this applies to EU customers too? yeah i also wonder this!

yeah i also wonder this! So, it looks like a 760 W Platinum will easily be sufficient for a single one of these. Correct? Actually, this sounds like a dumb question considering that it handles my 780 Classy no problem. Sorry, quoted the wrong post.
