If possible, can you underclock the 680s to match the 950 core at turbo max? I'm interested in the comparison. Thanks.

Minimalism? I don't think so. Minimalism would have no side logo or one in dark grey or something. "GEFORCE GTX" in bright green capitalized bold font is not minimalistic. That alone is what's keeping me from buying a pair of these. I'll stick with my pair of 570s for now. Still going strong after 1 year!

Minimalism.  It's a good thing.  Looks sleek and sharp.

Awesome results. The 680 rocks. Thanks for doing this.

How was the fan noise and temps?

Can't wait to get my cards. Got my step up paid for today and just have to send in my old cards.

EDIT: I don't think you can fold on these cards yet. Standford has to come out with a new client for them.

Yeah, F@H was FAIL.  I didn't think it would work... but never hurts to try and force it to do something.  So we'll be waiting on the new F@H core for that.

Oh man, these cards are so quiet.  I never heard the fan at all at the default profile.  When I enabled the default Precision X custom profile... I'd hear them kick in, but they were still far quieter than my Corsair H100 fans next to my head.

The current max fan setting is 85% -- I'd presume an unlocker is forthcoming in the weeks ahead based on past precedence.  At 85% they sound like 580s at 85%.

Temps were in the low 70s at full load for the default profiles. Nothing major.  When I play BF3 later I'll run it at 100% like I usually do and update you.

We will find out out shortly if they revert to OpenCL folding or whatnot.. but its already been stated that
"We honestly haven't spent a ton of time on LuxMark – it's not a high priority app for us. And LuxMark performance has little to do with Folding@Home performance. We are working with Stanford on a new Folding@Home client that takes maximum advantage of our new Kepler architecture. Stay tuned for more info!"

I do like that EVGA is now finally putting protective covers over the card's ports (about time).

Cool! BTW don't forget to update your Precision X to the latest one here. The one that shipped on the DVD is a bit older, there are a lot of improvements in the official releasae.

Excellent point, I didn't note this earlier, but I couldn't DL the 3.0.1 due to the web traffic... I DL'd it earlier finally.

lol you one up'ed me again fozzy :)  lol. i just got my 680 in the mail.
hey are you going to be on BF3 tonight? want to know how 2 does. :)

oh yeah, i'll be BF3ing tonight.

FYI, I ran in SLI at the default Ultra settings at 1920x1080...

Interesting find and I'm not ready to post any screenshots yet... but not using Precision X ran the #1 680 to 101*C and it downclocked.  When I noticed this, I popped out, loaded Precision X, enabled the default fan profile, and everything dropped down to 79*C on the #1 card.

The #2 card was fine since it wasn't doing the heavy lifting.

Once things cooled down, I also ran BF3 with fan on full (85% presently) and noticed my temps were 69*C and 59*C for #1 and #2 respectively.

That's a little more than my 580s at 100% fan at 63*C and 57*C, but it's still good temps.  Just be sure to run things with Precision X!

A note about framerates... obviously, it's hard to test framerates in multiplayer but it's how we play the game right?  So on a full 64 person server playing Seinne Crossing, I was netting between 71 at the lowest to 180 maximum.  The average range seemed to be 90-130 fps depending on objects.

Now I need to play with FXAA and see how that changes things versus 4xMSAA.  Once I get some data I'm comfortable with, I'll post it in post #2.

Afterburner

^^^ Interesting. These 680's seem to be handling the harder issues and offer better performance at the low FPS scale... NOICE!

Those low min fps are probably VRAM related after all heavy antialiasing is used. I did run Unigine Heaven 3.0 with min fps at 40 (same settings). I have GTX 580 Classified Ultras and 2500k @ 4.8GHz.

edit.

I would guess that GTX 580 Classified Ultra @ 1GHz = Stock 680 GTX.

Great question, I didn't adjust the core voltage! I just adjusted the power offset from 100% to 120%.  I didn't dive into the particulars yet for these cards. I haven't had much time.

I plan to look into it all more this weekend.  I can say this though, they're like a hot knife through butter in games.

The 580s in SLI rendered everything smooth, but these are even more fluid and impressive. When my BenQ XL2420TX comes in, I'll really be able to enjoy it at 120Hz and/or 3D Vision 2.

Actually changing the core voltage on 680 doesn't really help much, and the card may actually override it.

Because the voltage automatically increases as the core clock does, so usually you will have enough voltage for your desired offset.

Yeah, I can give that a whirl.  Give me a little time.  Also, you can't disable the Boost so even if I set the offset lower, it'll still auto boost.

Acoustics
This is by far the most subjective and least accurate.  I used my DB Meter app on my iPhone and at 85% fan I measured 71 dbA and at idle I still measured 61 dbA.  So let's assume that the app is junk at accurate initial measurement of ambient noise but the delta between idle and 85% is accurate.  A 10 dbA change isn't pretty good.  That said, they sound just like the 580s, subjectively speaking so whatever you're used to there, expect it here with your custom fan profiles.

If its equal in decibels to the 580 then all good here.  Never quite understood the need for fans to be as silent as possible.   Its actually rather soothing to me, as I run my PC 24/7 and can always hear my fans humming along with everything I do.   Although I don't tend to hear them much while gaming, guess I'm too focused.  Overall though,  I'm quite used to fan noise, and have tried once to sleep without my PC on and it was eerily too quiet and I couldn't sleep...heh

Good deal, thanks for clarifying.  This is the behavior I expected and was evidenced by the increase in power draw when overclocked, so I left it alone even though it was there as an option to adjust.

I'm excited to fine tune them to see what they can do.  Gonna download Precision X in a bit and see.

I'd like to motion for the next cards to be released on a Tuesday.  I missed out Thursday and just put my order in earlier this afternoon.  Now I'll be twitching until monday =p

Great info here MWparrish, thank you for taking the time to post for people.  It's very appreciated.

I got mine a few hours ago, but won't be able to work on it until tomorrow evening....(I know, bummer eh?)  I will be running tests on three monitors if nobody has posted results and configurations (cables needed, ports used etc) by then.

Again, thank you.
