Why is EVGA not warning us about the "Red LED of Death" / "Red Light of Death" issue with their 3090 FTW(x) ultra and other graphics cards?
It appears EVGA neglected to inform its customers about the high failure rates of 3090 cards, possibly due to design or manufacturing defects. Even more concerning, they sold refurbished cards with a shorter 1-year warranty, which could fail again for the same reasons, leaving customers with no recourse once out of warranty.
I purchased a 3090 FTW Ultra 24GB video card in late October 2023, and just over a year later, it stopped working, showing a solid red LED over the last connector – a symptom commonly referred to as the "Red LED of Death." or "Red Light of Death", when Searching online, I found many users experienced the same issue, with similar red LEDs appearing on their cards.
Despite writing to EVGA three times, I was told my warranty had expired, and they provided names of third-party repair services, which charge $250 to $500, with no guarantee of success in repairing the card. This response is unacceptable, especially since many of these refurbished cards were repaired when new and being fixed and sold as refurb and failing again with the same issue.
Given the widespread nature of this problem, it may be time for a class action lawsuit to hold EVGA accountable and seek extended warranties for both new and refurbished cards. A quick search for "Red Light of Death" / "Red Light of Death", reveals numerous EVGA customers with 3090 and a lower number of 3080 cards facing sudden failures, highlighting a potential design flaw that should have prompted a recall or a longer warranty and sales stoppage for refurb'd cards..
