Hi all
I have a question. This has been happening since I upgraded to the GTX 1080. When I game it will happen every so often. The game will completely freeze for 1-2 seconds then continue. It will only do the 1 stutter. This happens sometimes in intervals of 30-90 minutes. Sometimes not at all. It mostly happens when playing Diablo 3 and the odd time with League of Legends. My old GPU was a GTX 670 and never did this.
I would upgrade the drivers but I am on 376.53 for folding purposes. The card never drops work units. I opted for the free backplate and thermal kit offered a few months ago. I thought maybe it was heat related issues. I also did the advised bios update on the card.

Just in case you are wondering, my specs:
i7 970 OC 4.0ghz
18GB ddr3
evga 850w gold psu

Everything should be fine hardware wise. Any tips or ideas I am all ears.

Power management in Nvidia control panel on adaptive or maximum performance?

Did you do a clean install of the drivers after putting the new card in? ( remove current drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller, then reboot and install new drivers clean)?
I would recommend only the driver and PhysX.

Sure it's GPU? Might want to keep an eye on your CPU and memory stats.

Cpu pegging 100% would easily cause the same behavior.

Are you running windows 10? If yes, try disabling windows smartscreen to see if it helps make the issue go away.

I did a clean install of the driver. I did install the geforce experience though. I let it install the suite. Can that really impact performance? I tried all the suggestions and I still got a couple stutters last night while gaming. My CPU barely ever goes above 20% usage while gaming and my ram is not even half used.

Geforce experience can affect your game performance if you optimized your games with geforce experience.

Just to give an update. I didn't want to jinx it. But all of my issues have gone. I used all of your suggestions without any success. What I did was update my driver. I went into safe mode and ran DDU and installed the most popular 373.06 driver for folding. My issues got worse. Seeing that the driver changed how things were performing (made it worse) I decided to try the latest and greatest driver. Without using DDU again I just installed 382.05. Everything went away. I am now performing exactly as I was hoping this card would from the start. To top it off, my folding is still on par with what it was previously.

Just had to give an update in case anyone in the future goes through the issues I had.
