So when I woke up there was instagram ad from Nvidia showing off the 1080 boasting superior performance to Titan X at MSRP of 599 USD.

I ran to check "My products" on the EVGA member site, and it says I have 47 days left in the step up program on my GTX 980 ti.

Do you guys think I have a shot? And what about you?

You probably have a shot. This is a step up question though, so I am going to move it to the step up forum.

I think 1080 will be launched on time for your step-up... Only is question when EVGA allow step-up...
If they accept immediately you will probably have around 15 days.
But don't forget priority is people who payed and EVGA cards are always hardest to
find because many people want them and sometimes they are out of stock very often.
That mean first month many people will want them.
But for now EVGA pay attention and on step-up.
That's one of reason why people decide to buy their cards.

Once you are in the cue, time does not matter. The hard part is getting into the cue for the card before 90 days.

Thanks for moving the thread, Scarlet-Tech.

Indeed, Vlada011. I am very hopeful. I bought the EVGA for the step up program, because of the senseless secrecy behind the new GPU, I thought that I wouldn't want the 1080 if I had to wait until 2017 to play in VR. But May 27th is pretty close. If they had announced sooner I would be less likely to choose EVGA because they're harder to find and I wouldn't need the step up program. But I registered on time and everything, I think they'll approve it as soon as the new cards launch on the EVGA site at least.

Then if they need time to fulfill the order, I believe that isn't a problem for the 90 days limit. I'd be "in the queue" as you say, Scarlet-tech.

Any idea how long it usualy takes for EVGA to come up with their own version of the card? Im currently running a gtx780 and have a rift coming in a month or so.. So I will upgrade any day now, been looking and thinking on going for the 980ti hybrid but now i dont know if i should instead wait.. Might go for the step up program as well but not realy sure if i will be eligible for it, as i will buy the GPU through my company. Cheaper as i can take it off the taxes later instead of paying myself money (and taxes of it and then VAT in the gpu as well..)

I e-mailed customer support and they said "At this time we have no information on the release of the GTX 1080". I have a and a 980ti and have zero problems with the rift. You could also wait a month or so and pick up a 980ti for $300 probably.

I have 26 days left on my step up from a 980 Ti Kingpin. Guess I don't stand a chance to step up?

I have 19 days left, supposedly the 1080 will be released on the 27th, I'm no mathematician but by my reckoning my step up runs out on the 26th - story of my life - always 1 day out :(

Even if we could step up all we could get would be reference cards so what's the point..

    @ EVGATech_AndrewA / @ Scarlet-Tech ,

Totally understandable that commitments can't be made on products not available yet. Thanks to the support team for fielding what I imagine is a ton of these requests today. :-)

Are there any historicals we can lean on for previous generations? What factors determines when something hits the step up list? (Other than stock)

Looking for a "Well 7XX/9XX were publicly available at date X, and added to step up on date Y", type thing.

I couldn't give exact dates, but I know NVIDIA launched the 980 7 days before they allowed the retailers to sell their own. Once the retailers were authorized sales, the step up program started shortly after. It all depends on stock and availability though. It could take weeks or months for the cards to get stocked, especially with those silly reference cooler cards, because they will be splitting the stock for all of the manufacturers. Evga usually uses their own cooler for the step up so that they don't have to wait for the reference style coolers.

Yeah, if you've bought the card from an authorized re-seller and have registered the card, it is eligible for step-up.

Your step-up window is still large.  I would be very suprised if EVGA hasn't added the new cards within the ~80 days you've left. That would pretty much make the step-up program obsolete.

But you can expect a pretty long queue if you don't get in ASAP.

Either way, I wish you luck. I have ~60 days left on my step-up period. I just hope it'll be enough.

So the Step Up list for US stops at 970...meaning the 980 and 980Ti arent even available for the Step Up program here in the US. I just bought a 980Ti Classified 3 weeks ago, and I would definitely want the choice of  "Stepping Up" to the 1080. However, based on the fact that no 980's are even on the list of available upgrades...I don't think the 1080 will be on there any time soon.

Also, please keep in mind that even when the new EVGA cards are released, that they might not be on the Step-Up list on launch day.

Has this has happened in previous generations of cards? If so, do you know around how long the wait was until customers were able to get in the queue? I personally am not worried about the wait, just getting in the queue before my 90 days is up

So I'm a little confused with the Step Up / Reg process. I literally just purchased my 980Ti 12 days ago from NewEgg but didn't purchase an extended warranty or anything like that. I don't have to purchase anything else do I? Just register the product with EVGA and then submit it to the Step Up program, correct?

You only have to purchase the extended warranty if you did not register your card within 14 days of purchase then the Step Up option will be available. If you registered within the 14 days of purchase then you do not have to purchase the extended warranty to be eligible.

Oh alright cool, so essentially I better register my card in the next two days and the Step Up option will automatically be available to me for if / when the 1080 hits the program.

Also make sure you have uploaded your invoice from your place of purchase to evga.com/invoice

Done and Done. Thanks for the help! Now to sit and patiently wait ( and hope ) for the 1080 to drop and have it available for the program :P

I always extend my warranty for other reasons, I'm within the 90 days on both my cards (85 and 45) just hope everything goes right...
Now my question : Depending on the difference in payment, which version of the GTX 1080 will we be able get? Nivida's Founders or EVGA's SC, FTW ACX 2.0 version?

Well... I'm starting to cry inside a little bit. 41 days in step up, and things don't usually go the way I want.

What would the industry be without mistake purchases...

I contacted evga as my 90-day period expires 4 days before the "official" May 27th launch and I was hoping for some sort of grace period:

I do apologize for any inconveniences. To be fair to everyone the 90 day window for the Step Up program is a strict 90 day window. Any time after this 90 day even if it is just 1 day, the Ste Up option will no longer be available. Once again we do apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. Please keep in mind that we as the manufacturer have no control over Nvidia's release decisions.

    Aw man... Hugs to you.

90 days would have been fine if Nvidia announced their cards sooner and not "end of next month!", that way we wouldn't have bought the 980ti's this year. But now I see how Nvidia isn't a charity and those 900's needed to be sold.

I feel your pain but I'll raise your 4 days before official launch, my step up runs out on the 26th May, the day before launch.

    Can I get a hug also? 🙂

    Another question:

If I see the 1080 in the step up, should I jump on the 1080 Founder's Edition or can I expect the perfected EVGA version to land soon-ish?

If that's your concern, you could just wait until your last day on your step-up period - if the ACX version isn't made available for step-up at that time, then just go for the FE.

But I still think that the ACX version will be the one made available for step-up. All the add-in board partners have been very quiet about their AIB cards, just like EVGA has been quiet about what card will be made available for step-up. So yeah, just a normal card with the ACX card on it - not superclocked or anything like that. :)

My Step Up expires on the 27th!! I'm hoping that means at 11:59pm on the 27th. Waiting to hear back from EVGA if I'll be able to step up my 980ti Classified. Oddly I still haven't seen any confirmation that the 1080 is officially eligible for Step Up, or even my 980ti Classified for that matter
