Hello all.

My apologies in advance since I didn't find a similar thread that would EXACTLY explain my question / situation so I'm posting here (and please excuse my typos).

Bought a GTX 1080 Ti Black Edition gaming a week ago and recently installed EVGA Precision XOC. Aside from the software only showing 1 temp (which I believe I can fix) I have a some issues that bug me.
While gaming ANY intensive game (for instance the Division, PUBG, GTA V and even World of Warcraft) I can see my temps jumping to like 77-80 degrees C and my clock jumping all the way to 1949 (as shown on the picture) I saw the hottest moment while playing PUBG (uncapped) at around 80 degrees and 1923 mhz while fan speed was 2800 rpm or such. I haven't done any overclocking or stuff. In idle mode my temp is around 58-59 degrees C and clock is at 1430 mhz usually. Since i have read conflicting reports all around that the card is prone to overheating thought I'd rather ask the people. I have checked the fans and both are spining normally (as far as I can tell atleast).

My other specs are :

Asus Z370 TUF Gaming Plus
GSkill Ripjaws V 3000 mhz
Corsair 750 W CX750 bronze 80+
Intel i7-8700K
Noctua NH-D14 air cooler
Zalman Z11 PLUS

Also have 3 Monitors : BENQ ZOWIE XL2411P 144 hz (in DP), BENQ GL2250 60 hz x2 (in DVI and HDMI) - All are running on 1920x1080

Is this normal for the card to get a bit hot ? I don't have any screen tear or the sort and have been able to solve the problem in less demanding games (like CS GO) by limiting frame rate to 144 / 150. Despite that some games (like World of Warcraft) still make my CPU go at like 77 degrees C. This is my first "premium" PC and graphics card since the last card i had was r9 380 nitro that went at max 71 degrees C at full load.

PS. Case opening is kinda out of the question since i will void the free hardware checkup for the next 2 years.

Help ?

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

Welcome to the forums. It does appear that your graphics card is running within the specs. Getting up to 80c is warm but it is not something to worry about. If you would like us to take a look further into any performance scores for you we could. If you would like to run Firestrike benchmark from 3Dmark and you can upload the results to support@evga.com

You have inadequate cooling to the GPU is why your temps are higher than they could be. The GPU is using the air inside the case to cool itself. The CPU cooler which is also dumping it's heat inside your case is also the same air 'cooling' your GPU.  Whatever you can do to get more airflow THROUGH the case and OUT will help.

HEMI is correct in that it sounds like you need a tad more airflow through the case.....

But your statement about  -" Case opening is kinda out of the question since i will void the free hardware checkup for the next 2 years.  ""  ,  has me puzzled ??
Didn't you open the case to install this new video card ?

Yar...I was pondering that...It may be that he had it upgraded by a computer shop that sells systems with a service contract. BTW,  I have a flight deck flashback every time I see your cranial. Ha ha.

If he can't open the case, take the thing back to where he bought it and tell them to Install some better/more fans. If that's not possible sell him a better case with better air flow.

At any rate.. how many fans do you see on this pc?? Do you have some pics of it? Know the make or model of the case?

He might be able to open some software to adjust fan speeds for the case fans or go into the bios to adjust the fans.

The EVGA GTX 1080 Ti Black Edition card doesn't show power/memory temps as it's missing the 9 extra thermal sensors. To fix your idle temps/clocks you can do the following... http://forums.evga.com/98...-m2247670.aspx#2247768

Hello again, my apologies for the late reply. The case is the Zalman Z11 PLUS.

I didn't mention this before : I bought the PC already done at the shop. I picked the components myself (except the case which the shop recomended since the one i wanted - Zalman Z9 plus wasn't available) and they put it all together free of charge  and gave me 2 year "waranty" (if that's what you can call it) for problem detection (or regular checkups that everything is fine), and separate waranty by component. When i was looking at the case i saw atleast 3 fans working (1 at lower front 1 at the top and one at the top back, not sure about the one on the bottom). For the rest i cannot tell really. PS. I currently have it on the floor..perhaps moving it would help ?

I looked at your case online prior to making my post.  Your issue is simply that you have warm air in your case that is the same air that is used to 'cool' the GPU. This is not something a lot of folks consider. However, you have, a CPU drawing~100 watts under load, a GPU adding another ~200-225 watts, your motherboard, power supply... Pretty much every single watt your system generates is being held inside and exhausted out with small fans. If you can't modify any of that, all you can do is run the fans faster to move more air through the system.

How long have you had this pc?

If it was me . it's time to learn how to build your own pc. I dont know you so no idea of your level of geekness or potential to build your own but its. Its that hard. Plenty of videos on youtube.

*Case specs says it can have up to 7 fans installed , ... sounds like yours doesn't have that many.?

So I would leave one of the sides off for heat dissipation.  Unless they put stickers " do not tamper" all the way around it , you should be able to do that.
And Yes, usually moving it off the floor helps .

I've had the PC for a week. My level of geekness was through the roof before, i always built my own PC-s but lately i kinda grew clumsy so a bit afraid to do it (last time i was tampering with stuff i accidently broke a few keys on my keyboard, fried the cable on my mouse etc) so i'd rather not :D. I did some adjusting for the framerates on games but tbh it still runs on like 75 degrees C. Probably doesn't help that It's very hot and humid where i live so atm my room is like 27 degrees C :D (Summer in Croatia). Thanks for the tip i will remove it from the floor promptly. And yes, do not tamper stickers are there. I called the shop to which they told me that it's normal for that GPU to even go to 85 degrees C and that when they usually do the wiring and general assembly of the PC they make sure it has a nice air flow. Guess i need to make some adjustments and try some more tests if nothing i can always return it and demand changes, since the PC cost me a pretty penny

If you have the option to add larger fans that could help a lot. The stock fan configuration appears to use 80mm and 120mm fans. Any of those you can upgrade to larger more efficient fans is a plus and will be quieter with more airflow.

    Option to return?? Hmmm

53c on air cooler was max my ftw3 1080ti did before I installed a water block.. 60s c is where you would want the card. You can adjust the fans on the card with evga's precision x oc software.

You need to find out if you can adjust the case fans in the mb bios.. usually del or f1 key at post.

    Prob cheap fans though.

In the MB BIOS, set your case fans to 100%
Not as good as better or more fans but it may help and is an easy test.

You need to get the heat out of the case (as other said earlier)

ACX cooler dump most of the heat into the case.

Blower "reference cards" push most of the heat out of the case.     EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GAMING, 11G-P4-5390-KR

Yeah i was messing around with the fans in the ASUS BIOS and i had an option called QFAN control, set my 2 chasis fans (to which i was like what only 2?!) to DC & turbo mode atm will see results.. Well return is an option but i bought in with my credit card on a monthly payment scheme (12 months in total - don't know how to say it differently). After i did the Multi power display saver thing mentioned earlier i did get a decrease in initial temp which is now 50 degrees C and decrease in GPU clock which is now 215-415 mhz in idle mode. I do have my old rig which has a Zalman Z9 PLUS case that i can mess with (maybe swap) but rather not atm. I'm guessing the bottom line will be that I'll just send it to the shop for testing and eventual case / fan replacements (for the better ones ofc), since i gave like 2200 € for the PC might as well give a few extra € to make it run smoothly.

Remember QFan is based on CPU & MB temps it does not measure GPU temps

I'd test case fans at 80% - 100% max fan speed

More Air should blow into the case than out of the case - "positive pressure" the rest leaks out of all the other openings

Yeah set them to manual and start at 100% to see how loud they are.

For the GPU fan curve in px oc "you'll need serial number for the card to download it". Thet could be a prob right there.

You can use msi afterburner though to control the fans. Set the curve to run the fans at 50% at idle till the temp reaches 40+ C. Then crank them to what you can bear when gaming. So if you can handle 75-80% speed do that from 45c on.

Got some pics of the PC but can't post at the moment. Perhaps tomorrow. Internet's gone so im piggybacking on my uncle xD. I manually set the fans @ 50 % (1800+rpm atm) and the temp is like 43 degrees C. Need to set up that curve.

Ok.. think that store would advise you on how to control the fans with there warranty at stake an all. Hot computer is no good.

I think even setting the fan control to off may run the case fans at 100%.. may want to make sure before restarting the pc.

Perhaps I've found the problem. 2 fans are blowing INTO the CPU Cooler meaning that the air gets "wasted". Would explain it.

Fan label side is usually the end that blows.. which fans?

That's kinda strange.. wheres the heat from the CPU going? Guess down to the GPU to suck on.

Can you see the direction of the other 2 fans? You mentioned one in front and bottom.. hope there all sucking in and the heat will just be forced out the openings.

It's like this..The rear (back) fan is spinning inward (taking air in), the top fan is also doing that..the air CPU cooler is going clockwise (as far as i can tell) and the front one (which is at the front bottom of the case) is going outwards. Hope is explained it correctly
