Do you think the prices will continue to drop? I ordered a 3070ti for 970€ and the card is currently sitting in the courrier office. I'm starting to rethink my decision to buy it, 970€ is still too much. I know that nobody can predict the price movements, but I'm still interested to hear your opinions on that.

I still think it will be many (many, many) more months until prices seem reasonable (close to MSRP). The supply is still low. The silicon chip shortage is still crippling production and there isn't currently an end in sight.

I wouldn't be surprised if future graphics cards have higher MSRP because consumers have proven they are willing to spend 2x or 3x the current MSRP prices.

I believe they will fall precipitously if bitcoin mining is devalued and the chip shortage is turned around.  Chip shortage was caused by Covid as well as shortages in silicone, lithium and other materials.

I think the prices will dip a little more, and then quickly raise once again.

if you really need it then keep it but if you dont need it then return it and try to buy in a retailer like zotac and best buy.

I think they’ll dip down for a bit, but due to the shortage they’ll remain overpriced for a while.

I think prices will be in the gutter in 2-3 months. Mining is down, MSRPs are way up... Zotac is selling for way wayyyy over MSRP... pretty soon cards will be selling used less than original price.

I've followed some of the prices of german retailers over the past week and the prices have already gone down about 100€ - 200€ on average in just one week. especially 3070ti have gone down quite a bit. I'm looking at one for 889€ on mindfactory as I'm writing this.

I've also taken a look at Alibaba for GPUs and there are some chinese companys selling their whole mining farms with their 2000+ cards since the regulations.

So Yeah, If you don't need it right now you might aswell just wait another week or two.

I still don't think it's enough. There's still huge demand, and issues with manufacturing and global distribution. And it's still really profitable for scalpers to try and resell hardware.

Prices can only drop when supplies begin to get better than current demand.

I think it's going to be about two years from now before we see a return to "normal" pricing, however in that time frame I think that there will be a big reduction in scalped pricing as supply begins to trickle in and catch up somewhat.

The big issue here is that there are so many people that are waiting for a upgrade (at a reasonable price) that it's going to take a hot minute before things stabilize.

Call me a pessimist but why should they drop? If everyone in this supply chain is making money all the way down to ebay resellers and the demand hasn’t cooled, where’s the invective to drop prices?

You have a limited pool of people who are able to and are willing to pay the overpriced figure and you can only run so many "shuffles" or "lottos" before people just get tired of companies bundling product that hasn't sold with a card. If we hit that point you will see a moment where retailers and suppliers are forced to start cutting prices or else be saddled with old product as new cards are coming out, do you think any of the R&D has halted on the 4XXX or 7XXX series cards? No one wants to tilt their hand and say "oh well due to lack of supply were going to delay a generation to focus on getting supply into the hands of people who want it" instead it's "well we're just going to call that generation a wash and start moving on to the next unobtainium series of cards".

For what it is worth, prices on ebay are definitely starting to fall.  Some of the highend cards, like the ROG Strix OC, are starting to go for only about $100 over MSRP once you figure in sales tax.  High end cards aren't a great indicator since you're starting at a higher price to begin with, but at least that's something.
I do feel the original poster though - I was very tempted to get one of the cards I saw (I'd rather go basic or top of the line, not in between), but I promised myself I wouldn't go over MSRP, so I'm really hoping the prices drop as well, and that I'm not making a mistake waiting, so it's a really hard choice when you have one "in hand."

I can only hope that some scalpers get burned by overpaying for cards in the rush to try and flip them and then not being able to offload them.

I've been watching the three camels and the prices have consistently gone down over the last week.  A 3080 was $3K a week ago, but is now $2k.  And that's without the LHR 3080s filling up the system yet.  Perhaps by the end of July they will be close to $1K.  I wonder how small the margins have to get for people to shut their bots off...

    About tree fiddy...

Honestly though there will always be people looking to make a quick buck so you'll see scalping all the way down to $100 over retail.

Lhr cards are dumb anyways.. it splits the supply and doesnt offer any benefit at all. Pretty sure people have already figured out how to get around them with custom bios flashes to still use them for mining

Frankly if there was a way to completely kill hashrate without significantly affecting gaming performance I'm all for it, we desperately need a reprieve from cards being scalped or sold off to miners before they even hit inventory of stores.

In other business around the world, once a pricing structure has been proven to work, its rare they ever go back.
