Well, now that my system is finally done......sort of.....I figured I'd post a build log here. It was definitely a process since I hadn't built anything since 2014 and was planning to do my first custom loop ever. I've never even used an AIO before. I've been wanting to do a water cooling loop for years though since I first heard about it in the early 2000's. I almost went Z390 and 9700K earlier this year but I'm glad I held out for Zen2. I did want to do that 12/24 thread monster 3900X but nobody has them in stock still like 2 months later. I went with the 3700X instead which is still 8/16 threads. The plan is assuming AM4 socket is still used next year for 4xxx chips to put a faster and higher core count chip in then. Though my understanding was that AM4 should be good for at least one more cycle, if they do switch sockets next year then instead I'll look for the upcoming 3950X with 16/32 threads once the 4xxx stuff is out and the prices start dropping. I'll split the thread up into multiple posts so it's not just one huge list. Official system parts: Ryzen 7 3700X Asus Crosshair VIII Hero (non-WiFi) EVGA 2080 Super Hydro Copper GSkill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 32GB (2x16GB) Seasonic Prime Ultra Gold 1000W Samsung Evo 970 plus 500GB Samsung Evo 860 2TB Coolermaster H500M Cablemods custom length 24 pin, 8 pin, bridged 8+8 pin PCIE, SATA cables in white and carbon with aluminum combs Alphacool ST30 V2 360x30mm res Alphacool Eisbecher D5 150mm Reservoir w/ Acetal top Aquacomputer Cuplex Kryos Next acetal/copper CPU block Aquacomputer PWM D5 pump Mayhem's Ultra Clear tubing Alphacool rotary fittings Barrow compression fittings and ball valve Aquacomputer Double Protect Ultra clear coolant

So I learned about testing your stuff before installing it. That's something that for some reason I've never thought to do before, so I did. Here's the first boot. Also, I forgot to mention, I was on air cooling and my old 1070 SC for a few weeks before I put the loop in.

Next it was water cooling and new GPU time. This took me a couple days to get installed but it was worth it taking my time. Parts: Loop finished: Shot of the fans up top:

Just because, I figured I'd post one last pic showing the system's home......... So, earlier I mentioned it was finally complete "for now". While I'm not planning on changing the main hardware at all, there is one final change coming. I found a buyer for the H500M case and will be swapping out to probably a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe 2 once they're in stock again. I thought when I bought it the H500M would be a good choice and while it IS nice, for water cooling it's way to hard too work with even though it supports up to two 360 rads at once. Especially with an FTW sized card it's just too tight. Also that top panel airflow with the air having to come in the side and bend to go through the fans is not as good as it could be. I get about 5C better temps on the GPU on an extended Heaven run just pulling the top panel off and not changing fan speed or pump speed anywhere. I could move the rad to the front, but at this point I'd rather just get a larger case again and have room to work and build for the future.

Figured I'd post one last thing. Before I actually put the loop together fully I test fitted if there was room for adding a front rad with the FTW in there. There is, but yeah it's tight. Also, a special thanks to EVERYONE who gave me advice, tips, etc. over the last few months. I don't want to name names and forget someone, so just know that if you gave advice, it was definitely appreciated!

Well done and like the green theme to it. This is just the beginning, You're catching what we call the custom water cooling bug. It's fun really and did I almost forget, pricey. lol After 8 years, it's slightly cured but still there. P.S. - Don't worry, you can tell it was me. Give that man a Blue Ribbon gentlemen!

Thanks! Also yes you gave me a ton of advice on the water cooling . I really struggled to find a lighting theme. I need to add more once I do the new case to get the white in the cables to pick up more color. I really liked the light blue lighting I tried but since AMD is team red that seemed a bit weird lol. I looked at red also cause I play horde on WoW but the red lighting was just too dark on its own without some white strip lights or something. I'm a big green fan though so decided to try it. Hard to see in the pics but the res and card are supposed to match as a slightly different shade than the other parts.

It's working well so far. I still wish I'd gotten a hold of a 3900X but the savings was nice to redirect to other parts and game performance isn't affected anyway.

Lovely build how is that PSU btw? It's that I have the SeaSonic Platinum X 1000 since 2014 so fan no issues, are there any improvements with their new platinum or Prime Gold series or not so? I'm probably moving it all to an Enthoo Luxe 2 in around a month or so (assuming they finally come in stock) and I think that has a strip so that will probably help. I knew this case would need at least a strip or two for filling in the lighting but once I realized I'm going to move everything to a new case I'm just going to hold off since the new case might have different needs.

Thanks! Well, it seems fine so far. It's my first Seasonic unit (that I know of ). Previously I've been using a Corsiar HX850 since 2010 over two builds. This is a nice upgrade just from the fully modular standpoint if nothing else. Yep I'll add it to the post.

LOL yeah no matter what resolution it just caps at 1000fps without RTX on. Don't know if it's a demo limit or an engine limit or what.

Well, the build is getting a small update in about a week. The parts are getting a new "home". No I'm not giving them away, I'm upgrading the case from the H500M from Coolermaster to the new Phanteks Enthoo Luxe 2 in Anthracite. After doing my build in the H500M and realized the top panel was restricting airflow through my rad along with the other quirks that made it difficult to have a nice watercooling build experience (though not impossible obviously) I decided I needed to try a different case and go back to a full tower format. I think the Luxe 2 will last me a number of years like my old HAF-X did and give me lots of flexibility for future builds and upgrades. Also I think I'll be able to go vertical mount finally. The Luxe 2 actually comes with the bracket though you have to buy a cable and there's more vertical spacing so that massive FTW Hydro Copper doesn't block the RAM and CPU like in the H500M's vertical mount. I could make it really interesting by putting it in the vertical mount for the section of the case that allows an ITX board for a dual system, but I'd need to fab a blank to cover the I/O portion of the ITX bracket. I won't be using the triple slot vertical mount built in to the case for the "main system area" just because there's no way to support the GPU for anti-sag in that config unless you fab up something very custom. Also then you still have the problem of the riser cable connector just hanging there and since those only lock on to one side of the PCIE connector I can just imagine weeks/months of vibration and heating/cooling cycles could cause the connector to eventually shift crooked and cause electrical issues (but maybe I'm wrong there?). Anyway, the swap will be relatively cheap as I'm only pulling the trigger on it due to finding a buyer for the H500M. Selling it for $150 which is about 50 less than I paid for it. Luxe 2 is about 206 with tax, and I had to buy some more tubing as I don't have enough left from my original build and I'm sure I'll need some longer pieces in the bigger case. I'll deal with putting a larger res tube in and maybe Phanteks' rear panel distro plate etc down the line when $$$ is better after the holidays plus I need to see the case first to measure/plan/etc. I'll have to buy some more fans as well since it comes with none. Debating to put the coolermaster 3x120 fan unit and the 360 rad in push up top and put some 140's in the front, or put the CM fan unit up top and then put the rad on the front or the side panel intake with some more 120's. Might look a little off for now if I put the rad in the front or the side panel since it can hold a 480. Or I could go a bit nuts and put the CM unit up top, the rad in the bottom in push/pull (which would be overkill on a 30mm rad) and then put some fans in front as well lol.

Very nice. You used Alphacool fittings new line or some other brand? This is expensive hardware.
