Why would post counts of members need to be recounted?

If a member double posts, and we the moderators remove the post, then the user is still credited two posts. A recount could have likely removed the deleted posts credit and show as a single post now. I noticed when Spamming for Elite was a thing, that we could delete 100 spam posts and the user still had 100 posts counted, when they should have had zero.

That is my speculative guess. Maybe something was accidentally deleted, and the IT department will give them back. I don’t see users have a few thousand accidental double posts that were removed, but I know for a fact many years ago I accidentally posted over 100 times while I was in bad reception as my browser went into an auto refresh fit after hitting submit lol.

Why would post counts of members need to be recounted?

Just another step on the checklist of basic maintenance.  I wasn't suggesting that was the only thing done.

Why the wide swing on this one?  No idea.  Could just be the parameters of the programming or duplicate data leftover from multiple merges of different subforums in the past that was corrected.  Just speculation on my part.

Although the crazy speculation about why the post counts changed is certainly tempting enough to pull out some popcorn and sit back and watch, I'm afraid the cause is simply basic server maintenance, including recounting all posts and messages from members.

Jacob edited the name of one of the Graphics Card sections recently, but didn't delete any sections, which is what some of you might have mistaken for removing sections.  As a general rule, we merge posts into a different subforum before removing the doomed subforum.  We haven't removed any sections since around the time of the last great subforum shakeup (which was quite some time ago).

I'm checking with our IT to see if the post count changes might be temporary or permanent.

This was a problem for other iterations and there were adjustments before. Those were so frustrating cause we actually lost some really good vintage overclocking content.
