I purchased a new card for my gaming rig a couple of months ago and removed my 1080. Yesterday I finally got some spare time and changed the existing card (970) out of this PC and replaced it with the 1080.  I have two Display Port monitors connected but only one will display at a time. It does not matter which monitor is attached both will work but only one at a time (changing the monitors by unplugging the cable at the 1080). I have attached 2 images to show what Device Manager shows. I have tried the latest drivers as well as older ones but nothing seems to be working. I have a 750W PSU in the PC.
Just in case the images have issues the message I get from Device Manager is:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have done a fair bit of Google but none of the solutions I have tried so far (there are SO many out there) have worked.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Code 43 can mean a lot of things...

#1 Fauly card.
#2 Fauly pci-e slot.
#3 Registry corruption.
#4 Card not receiving enough power.
#5 Corrupt vbios.

Have you tried to reseat the card? Have you tried to clean out your old drivers with DDU?

Thanks for your reply Sajin
Okay, a small update. I had reverted to 442.74 but that did not work. Today I have reverted to the Original 1080 driver 368.25 and SUCCESS! The only problem being the Left monitor is notably darker than the Right. So now I will gradually work my way up through the Driver Revisions to see where I get to.

I still wouldn't mind any advice if anyone has any further/better ideas.

Cheers

Sounds like your windows isn’t fully up to date? Newer nvidia drivers require a specific windows version to be installed before you can install newer nvidia drivers.

I am on 21H1 Build 19043.1052. I think this is the latest. However, if I install anything other than the Original driver (368.25) my problem returns. As I understand things this should not be the case but I have now installed 6 different driver sets and have had to Rollback each one. I have to admit I'm a little confused and somewhat stumped. I really appreciate your suggestions/comments. Do you have anything else you can think of?

You aren't running a modded vbios are you? If yes, that could be the issue.

Unfortunately No! Standard vanilla card. No OC even.

It is not the monitors as when I fire up another PC with those two monitors all is good. I'm so confused

Did you buy the card used? If yes, it's possible the card has a modded vbios on it.

No I bought it brand new (had for about 5 years now) and a pretty penny it cost me too!

It was in my Gaming machine until I bought a new card a couple of months ago

If you shutdown your pc and switch to the other vbios the issue remains the same?

Your card comes with a vbios selector switch which will allow you to switch to the secondary vbios that your card ships with. The vbios selector switch is located just to the left of the dual 8-pin power inputs on the card.

just a final update. Firstly, thank you very much to Sajin for the suggestions/hints/etc. I had never even heard of the vbios switch before. I did try it but unfortunately it did not change my results.

I did, in the end, find the problem. It WAS the monitor BUT only the DisplayPort was affected (possibly a bent/damaged "pin" or dry solder?). The DVI and VGA ports were fine and I am using those two. I still have to use the old original driver but it doesn't affect anything that i know of so still happy.

Cheers

Glad you were able to figure out why one screen was darker than the other, but if you still can’t install drivers past 368.25 without getting a code 43 then something still isn’t right with your card/windows installation.

Yeah - I agree. But I will leave it be at he moment as I have spent almost 3 days mucking around with changing these cards around and then trying to get the screens to work properly. I might attempt it all again another day  - just not right now
