5600x is what I'm hoping to get once I get hold of a GPU. I plan to use 2x8GB Vengeance LPX 3600 (or similar), and maybe 4x8GB further down the line.

Just managed to grab a 5950X shipped/sold by Amazon and for MSRP instead of jacked up prices.  Yeah I know the new 3D cache version is coming but a quick read pointed to it being more of an improvement in 1080p gaming and I'm using 1440p ultrawide so I'm already more GPU limited.

Hoping it's as solid an upgrade as it seems like it will be over my 3700X for a few things though like MSFS and X-Plane.

Not too worried about temps since I'm using a custom loop with a 360 and a 420, the Zen2 offset bracket for the block which centers the fins of the block over the chiplets on Zen2 and newer CPU's, and some kryonaut.  I figure I should be good.  Even with PBO on and a 200Mhz offset and OCCT set to Extreme and my fans only on a moderate setting if that my 3700X only hits low 70's after the loop equalizes temp after about 20-30 minutes.

Does anyone know if the newest ryzen cpus are still optimized for only certain ram dye or did they finally get everything sorted out compared to the super early on ones like the 1000s/2000s

The situation is very much improved, most ram modules will work fine on the 5000 series but you should aim for 3600 - 4000 Mhz but even then the difference between these are marginal.
I've got 2x32gb ram sticks and they worked fine with XMP (mobo doesn't call it DOCP) out of the box.

I have the 5950X. Best processor I have used to date. For memory I have 128GB of Vengeance Pro Corsair RGB ram.

That's a lotta rammage!
Makes me feel puny with my 16 gigs :P

If I get around upgrading before Ryzen 6000 series I'll probably go out and grab the 5950x. The 3900x is serving me nicely though for the time being.

Honestly, if all you're doing is gaming on your system, 16GB of system RAM is more than adequate.
I didn't max at 128.  Couldn't justify the cost.  Though, down the road a bit, I might.  The board I've got actually benefits from having all 4 slots filled.
But I do a lot of SQL, VM, and data conversion work while also doing rudimentary image editing.  Gaming is almost (ALMOST) an afterthought.  So 64GB is kinda the sweet spot for me.

RAM Cache & Re-sizable BAR means the more memory you have the better. It doesn't just sit unused.

Ok loving this 5950X.  I think I'm set for a long time now with the exception of possibly adding another 32GB of RAM maybe as far as core system components.  Saw a solid 15%+ increase in FPS over my 3700X in MSFS 2020 at the low end of things.  Still need to get a 30 or the eventual 40 series card.

I'll be building my new 5800x pc on Friday. We'll see if my 970 will get any extra frames at 1080 while I wait for a 30 series...

I'm running a 5950X and having fun messing with PBO, but I've been having a hard time getting FCLK to boot at 1900. My RAM is the G.SKILL 3800 32GB kit, 14-16-16-36 timings. Not sure if I'm missing something on the FCLK or if my CPU just doesn't want to do it.

I'm having that problem with my 4000 stuff too.
Manually set the stuff (don't rely on the XMP profile), and bump the voltage slightly.

Did you ever get FCLK 2000 to boot? XMP has worked fine for me, but as soon as I touch FCLK things go sideways.

Which voltages? I've messed with a couple (I can't remember atm, I'll have to check), but nothing has made 1900 play nice so far.

I'm new to Ryzen overclocking, so it's been a new experience. I'm used to the way Intel works, hah.

The board I'm on, whenever I fiddle with memory settings, the board goes into BIOS reset and double boots.

Has anybody gotten a B550 board and a 5000 series ryzen?  Did you have to flash the bios with a different processor or did it come with a Ryzen 5000 capable BIOS?

It depends on what BIOS the board shipped with.
In some cases, it's a function of when the board itself was produced.

I have a 5900X with 4 sticks of 32GB DDR4 HyperX Fury RGB running at 3600 MHz and CAS 17.  The total ranks adds up to 4 too.  It's a pretty sweet setup and didn't cost the earth either.
