I estimate a 10% increase.....or so....does that mean it is worth it for you?

I was going to say between 5- 10% too .
But you have to decide if it's worth it. ?   You might come out better with getting 2x sticks of  faster / lower timing ram.
    3600 @ - 15-15- ( or even the newer 14-15- )

I have been wanting to buy a 5900X to swap out , but I keep talking myself out of it  because I don't really do enough super-multithreaded programs to justify it.  ( even though I want it )

I bit the bullet and went with a 5900X. Even going from a 6700K to a 5600X couldn't justify the build price of tearing down the whole system. The 5900X, though more expensive, is a huge upgrade in multi-core processes.

if you can find one ... might be a bigger issue

5-10% performance increase is just not worth it for most that are not using hardware to generate business income ... ROI

I was in the same boat and recently "upgraded" to the 5900x from the 3600.  It has seemed to help in Flight Sim and Civ VI but the reality is the 3600 was/is good enough for the vast majority of gaming.  Feel a bit bad for wasting resources on a shiny new thing, but that's what happened.

    CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x Stock
CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Elite
    Motherboard - MSI B450-A PRO
    RAM - 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3200
GPU - EVGA 3080 XC3 Ultra Hybrid Conversion
    OS SSD - Kingston A400 M.2
    SSD - Samsung EVO 860 1TB
    HDD - Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB 7200 RPM
    PSU - EVGA Supernova 1000 G+
