2 separate pcie cables from the psu to the card?

How old is the psu? 550watts cutting it close.

i have two power cables going to the card as the manual said it needed one 8 pin and one 6+2 pin connector, i thought it was a bit much myself, should i take one of them out?

PSU is brand new like the rest of my build, im able to run the Heaven benchmark and the card tops out at about 60 degrees

Ok to 2 sep cables from the psu and not one of those cables that has a 8 pin and another 6+2 connection daisy chained off it right?

Have you tried any other games just to see if it's a game issue with current drivers?

3dmark free from steam.. comes with a free version of timespy and firestrike bench to try as well.

I put two 6+2 cables in, I'm assuming I've made a noob mistake doing that, so far I've only tried doom, I will try witcher 3

I can run the unigine heaven benchmark without an issue

1 plug from the psu to 1 port on the card. That way for ea power connection to the card. That's the way you want it connected.

That's as best I can describe it without searching the internet for a pic of the daisy chained pci-e cable.

I believe doom has 2 graphic models. Dx11 and vulken GL? Off the top of my head.. have you tried both? Though I think the dx11 would be fastest.

Ok I'll try that, I had doom set up on DX11, I think I may have made a mistake with my PSU, i might need to get a higher wattage

I'd grab one of these to let you know how close you are to your PSU's max and I'd never push a PSU over 80% of it's maximum for longevity reasons.

my card is pulling about 200-220w under load, when i run the heaven benchmark its saying im reaching power limit even when its underclocked.

i have read forum posts saying that 550w should be sufficient as long as its gold certified, my cpu isnt overclocked either

Sounds normal. Underclocking the card doesn't guarantee you won't hit the power limit. Undervolting will help though.

Try using debug mode under the nvidia control panel at the top hit help. It will stay that way till you reboot.

Try doom out. If shes fine and no artifacting then maybe the card is bad.. unstable default overclock.
