Hi all,
I am not too new to folding, but have never built a dedicated machine for it before. I've been looking at from the stickies post, but it's about a year and a half old at this point. Anyone have any recommendations for suggested upgrades to either of the builds listed there? Particularly looking at mobo, CPU, and video card.

    Welcome to the Forum
Best Performance would be with a GTX 1080 Ti or RTX 2080 Ti
Folding on the CPU has ended for the most part not being worth the cost to Points
But Any GTX 1070 and about should still Fold well.

any modern CPU/mobo will do. the biggest thing with a dedicated rig is using a Linux OS. this will lighten the requirements on hardware and allow you to use more than 4 GPUs with ease. just note that you will need 1 logical core per GPU and ~1GB of ram per GPU. other than that the best thing to do is share what you think you would like to use and let all use share our opinions about it.

oh, i haven't. just search for the #1 user atm, that's me. but alas its not Folding@EVGA which is why i have been a little quite around here as of late and i am just not one to brag and post about it needlessly. i have finally taken that slot and hope to never lose it again.

but enough about me, i am here now as i can always help answer some hardware/setup questions. so if you have any i will be glad to try and share my knowledge.

    This ^^
Also, while the 2080TI's are simply monsters and tops in PPD/Watt, if you are on a tighter budget the 2070's are nearly as efficient as the 2080ti's, but at a lower build cost.  I just put 3 2070's online and it was a relatively cheap 3M+ PPD boost to my farm.

    1) Look at MB PCIe Population Rules  (spacing & MB specific) if your air cooled

    2) Look at the number of PCIe lanes for your CPU

    3) you want a min of X8 speeds on PCIe 3.0

I like the X99 MB myself, check my Rigs in my signature
